Kathryn V Santos
I am an Assistant Professor of English and Public Humanities Fellow at Trinity University, where I teach courses in Renaissance Literature, Shakespeare, drama, translation studies, and gender and sexuality studies. I completed my Ph.D. in the Department of English at New York University, and I earned my bachelor’s degree in English and Textual Studies and Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture from Syracuse University.
My research focuses on literary histories of translation, migration, and cross-cultural encounters as well as on contemporary adaptations and appropriations of Shakespeare’s works that use translation and translanguaging to engage with issues of linguistic identity, ethnicity, race, gender, and sexuality. I have published articles in Philological Quarterly, Shakespeare Quarterly’s new digital space, and in a collection entitled Shakespeare and Immigration (edited by Ruben Espinosa and David Ruiter, Ashgate, 2014). I recently co-edited Arthur Golding’s A Moral Fabletalk and Other Renaissance Fable Translations with Liza Blake for the MHRA Tudor & Stuart Translations Series (MHRA, 2017). I am currently completing the manuscript for a book entitled “Babelian Performances: Early Modern Interpreters and the Theatricality of Translation.”
Before arriving to Trinity, I was a member of the Department of English and a co-coordinator of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. While at NYU, I was a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in NYU’s College Core Curriculum and Part-Time Faculty in the Interdisciplinary Writing Program at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
