Diplomarbeit:
Developing a cloud computing governance model with specific reference to SaaS
Cloud computing, especially in a Software-as-a-Service model (SaaS), has injected new vitality into the enterprise business with its short deployment time and flexible pricing models to match time savings and reducing upfront expenditure. During the incorpora-tion of various cloud services, numerous challenges exist regarding the governance of the service-centric enterprise architecture. More and more service consumers are start-ing to recognize that it is critical to establish an overall cloud governance measure on the rampant risks of SaaS. For that reason the cloud governance model was developed. Within the scope of this thesis, the cloud governance model is based on the intensive study of existing standard governance models (such as COBIT, ITIL V3, BEinGRID)and focuses on the components that are related to SaaS assurance.
According to the newer requirements in a SaaS scenario, the cloud governance model is reconstructed and extended from the perspective of the service consumer. The cloud governance mod-el covers all strategically, organizational, technical governance perspectives. Among other things it contains a governance lifecycle model consisting of five phases for ensur-ing the implementation of cloud governance. The following components are described in detail: cloud strategy alignment, roles and responsibilities in the cloud governance organization, cloud governance precepts, cloud governance domains, technical require-ments of cloud governance and the methodology for implementation of cloud gover-nance.
A body of facts and success stories show that the cloud governance in the case of SaaS involves the similar management challenges that companies are facing. For instance, if service consumers move the personnel data to the cloud, which resides in a different jurisdiction, service consumers need not only the technical assessment of cloud services, but also the concern about legal, regulations, compliance and investigations. Therefore, the development of the cloud governance model is an important contribution to expedite the process of comprehensive cloud governance in an orderly manner for most SaaS service consumers.
