    Abstract Precision agriculture (PA) can be defined as a set of technologies that have helped propel agriculture into the computerized information-based world, and is designed to help farmers get greater control over the management of farm operations. Because of its potential to spatially reduce yield variability within the field through variable rate application of nutrients it is thought to be a production risk management instrument.

    Abstract Government subsidies designed to encourage cotton production in Benin have resulted in unsustainable agricultural production practices. Properly introduced, precision farming technology can help farmers improve their management practices and stop the damages being done to the environment. An economic analysis of the impacts of subvention policies is performed. Results show that an increase in input cost has a marginal impact on farmers' production strategy.

    Abstract. Before engaging in precision agriculture (PA) it is important to determine the least cost strategy of obtaining the technology. A key decision to make is whether to buy the requisite equipment or custom-hire the services. Using marginal analysis in a partial budgeting framework, the study determines the breakeven acreage necessary to economically justify the purchase of PA equipment versus custom hire.

    Abstract One of the main advantages of precision agriculture (PA) is its potential to increase profitability by optimizing the productivity of each section of the field. Incorporating irrigation practices to the PA technology could further increase profitability. However, investing in a complete set of precision agriculture (PA) and/or irrigation equipment represents for the average Kentuckian grain producer a substantial investment that can have a significant impact on the financial risk the he/she faces.
