Cities are expanding at rapid rates due to rural-urban migration and returnees from neighboring countries. Kabul the capital is growing at a fast pace than any other city in the country, it has experienced dramatic expansion over the past decade. The population has increased by almost 10% per year and this artificial growth caused a significant increase in the number of slums in Kabul, as an unwanted consequence of this growth today informal settlements have covered about more than 69% of Kabul. The inhabitants are suffering from bad residential conditions and low quality of life. The main objective was to align the research with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Kabul is experiencing the most powerful wave of urbanization in its history. With the rapid incre... more Kabul is experiencing the most powerful wave of urbanization in its history. With the rapid increase of population, typical urban problems such as lowering of the groundwater table, an influx of returnees, traffic jams, deterioration of sanitation, etc., are becoming critical. In 2006, to decrease the pressure from existing Kabul and take measurements for future urbanization process, an independent board was established for the development of a new city adjacent to the existing Kabul by the name of Kabul New City (KNC). There were already 54 villages that existed there. Due to smoothly implementing the master plan and supporting the existing villages, it was necessary to prepare village development plans. As each village has its own characteristics from the urban planning perspective, therefore this research explains a method for categorization of villages through multi-criteria decision analysis; seven potential criteria were identified and rated in collaboration with experts, and ...

It experienced a dramatic expansion over the last two decades. Ahmad Shahi is an area located in the CBD and famous for its traditional houses and urban fabric. The area illegally expanded in violation of the master plan and caused a huge transformation in the land use from residential to commercial which certainly affected the historic architecture of the area. This study looks into a comparison and analysis of two maps associated with the target area from different years to find the percentages of transformation and changes in the land use.
