Cultural Psychology noted that academic difficulties in members of certain minority groups are largely related to discontinuities in values, motives and goals between families and school. We present an action – research project, carried out in a participatory approach. The present study is part of a broader educational intervention in which UAB researchers collaborate with schools and other organizations in developing programs oriented to educational inclusion of minority groups' members. School mediators, as part of the studied communities, have participated in focus groups before conducting interviews with families in their communities. The data obtained from focus groups and interviews were analyzed by qualitative approach.

The obstacles that must be overcome for the members of these groups appear to be related to the discontinuities between the values and goals of community family life and those of the school. This article presents an analysis of obstacles based on the perception of gypsy families and other minority groups who don't have the same difficulties. The findings of this study help to analyze and understand the characteristics that promote the inclusion through extended education communities based on the Fifth Dimension model within the framework of a project developed in Barcelona with the gypsy and immigrant population.

The widespread incidence of school failure in some minority groups can only be understood from a multidimensional
approach. This article addresses one of these dimensions: the role of school context on identity construction. To do so, from
an ecological and cultural perspective, the Bakhtinian concept of social languages is adopted and their privilegiation
processes in school are analysed. This research study examines teachers’ talk about their students –in schools where half or
more of the children are Roma– and the rest come from immigrant families. The material obtained from focus groups is
analysed using the software tool ATLAS.ti. The results showed there were two types of discourse: one which privileges only
one social language and another which does not; and their different impacts on the inclusion of intercultural education in
school are discussed.
Keywords: Minorities, identity, teacher’s discourse, interculturality, inclusion."
