Drama uses the stage to re-enact, in the words and gesticulations, salient messages that are passed to the people. It is being used to communicate various messages, including vital socio-cultural messages that reaffirm the cultural ethos and values of a people (Nwabueze, 2019; Guanah, 2016; Omoera, 2017; Ibagere, 2010; Howley, 2005). is, therefore, brings to the fore for discourse, Nigeria`s National Theatre, the medium through which drama can be used to communicate. As a result, they are integral parts of any political system, or political process. They help in shaping the perception of voters during election, among other functions. In view of this, this work sought to establish whether political party affiliation influences politicians' preference for certain television stations in Edo State, Nigeria, to others. It adopted the Agenda Setting and Uses and Gratification Theories, and was guided by three research objectives. The study adopted the mixed method of data gathering due to its nature. It found, among others, that political party members prefer a particular television station to others mainly because it satisfies their political information needs, and because of their political affiliation to such stations. It also revealed that political party members still watch other TV stations, aside those owned or controlled by the political parties they belong to, because of the satisfaction they derive from the exposure. In view of the findings, it was recommended that political party members should watch other Television stations, apart from those that are sympathetic to their political parties, to have balanced information; and that similar study should be extended to other parts of Nigeria, to see if similar results would be got.

The acceptance of SUC in Nigeria has assumed a higher level. One of the reasons for this is because of its ability to help alleviate stress. Kehinde Peter Otolorin, with the moniker, Kenny Blaq, is one of Nigeria's stand-up comedians of no mean repute when it comes to the entertainment world. He proficiently blends music and drama into SUC while performing. The population of this study is made up of students of Mass Communication and Theatre Arts of the University of Benin, Benin City; Delta State University, Abraka, and University of Africa (UAT), Toru-Orua, who have watched the video of Kenny Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of 2018. Hence, the objectives of this study were to find out respondents'level of satisfaction with Kenny Blaq's musical-drama sub genre of SUC; to ascertain the therapeutic value of SUC to the respondents, and examine the extent drama and music were infused into the event. The study is founded on the Reception theory, and it adopts both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The major findings of the study are that respondents were highly satisfied with Kenny Blaq's performance, and SUC is considered to have therapeutic value. The study also revealed that Kenny Blaq excellently imbued music and drama at the Kenny Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of 2018. It was concluded that Stand-up comedians' renditions can be satisfactory to their audience when they are well informed and conversant with the happenings around them having carried out painstaking research before mounting the podium to perform. Among the recommendations made was that Nigerian citizens should take advantage of the therapeutic nature of SUC by exposing themselves to more stand-up comedy to ease off stress, depression and tension.

They are mostly suspected as culprits in numerous problems raging the political scene, including political violence that is growing at an alarming rate in Nigeria. This study investigated the causes of political violence in Nigeria; examined if politicians are the ones behind it, established the extent the media exacerbate political violence in Nigeria, and found out whether politicians actually join politics for their own selfish gains. The study focused on the Midwest zone of Nigeria (Edo and Delta States). It is a quantitative study that had its base on media framing theory. Findings from the study revealed that some of the causes of political violence include inadequate voter education, non-persecution of electoral offenders, failure of the justice system, poverty, quest for power, "do-ordie" posture, and others. It was confirmed that politicians are the brains behind most political violence. Further, results showed that 49.12% of the respondents believe that the media exacerbate political violence while 49.4% believe the media douse political violence. It concluded that election violence brings about the destruction of lives and property which invariably impinges negatively on the national development of any nation, and that the media can continue to impact positively on the nation's electoral process and its democracy by continually campaigning against electoral violence. Recommendations made include media regulatory bodies making sure they monitor the media properly to ensure they carry out responsible reportage of events and responsible information-sharing among the citizenry. Also, electoral offenders, especially those caught in the act of fomenting violence, should be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to potential perpetrators of violence.

This is done through the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique of deep learning, a set of machine learning methods. Deepfake technology is most notably used for nefarious purposes, such as to mislead the public by spreading false information or propaganda. It has become a worrying issue in contemporary society. This study evaluated Benin City`s residents' knowledge and attitude towards deepfake technology. The main objectives of the study were to: determine the level of knowledge of Benin City`s residents about deepfake technology, and find out the Benin City`s residents' perception of deepfake technology. The study utlised technological determinism theory. The researchers found that the majority of the respondents are highly knowledgeable about deepfake technology. They also said that the widespread use of deepfake technology leads to misinformation spreading faster. The respondents have a negative perception of the deepfake technology. The researchers conclude that the majority of the respondents are aware of deepfake technology. The researchers recommended that more awareness should be created, and that there should be media literacy for individuals to protect themselves from falling victims to deepfake manipulation. By staying informed about the existence and potential risks associated with deepfakes, individuals can develop critical thinking skills and assess media sources more effectively.

Through three objectives, it determined the level of awareness about Al by residents of Asaba; the extent the media enlighten the residents about Al; and how Al may likely impact their lives/professions. The population of the study was 73,374 while the Fisher and Lee sampling technique was used to determine the sample size of 384. This study leaned on the Diffusion of Innovation Theory, and used questionnaire and oral in-depth interviews to elicit data from respondents. Results of this quantitative study revealed that the awareness level of the respondents about Al was low; that the media are not doing enough in enlightening the people about the operations of Al, and that majority of the respondents are ignorant of the effects of Al on them, their jobs, and the society they live in. Based on the findings, it was recommended that every available channel, including opinion leaders and the media, should be used to create awareness about Al; the media should step up their enlightenment drive about the existence of Al to enhance the reorientation of the citizen's mentality and behaviours to Al, and citizens should brace up to acclimate to Al because it is a phenomenon with inevitable impact on the society that has come to stay, and will continued to be improved upon.

With the increasingly globalised world and the growing importance of multilingualism, the demand for French language instruction has been on the rise. Therefore, using University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, as a template, this paper aimed to determine the extent of the university students’ background knowledge of the French language; assess the students’ knowledge-level of the French language; ascertain the problems associated with the teaching and learning of the French language, and investigate if the media have any role to play in the teaching and learning of foreign languages. The study was anchored on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) theory. It adopted both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Its population was the 1,000 First year students of University of Africa, Toru-Orua, who offer French as a core Course. The sample size of the study was 278. The findings of the study were that the students’ background knowledge of the French language was low, and that the students’ knowledge-level of the French language was quite poor. It was discovered that the problems associated with the teaching and learning of the French language are varied, and that the media have significant roles to play in the teaching and learning of foreign languages. The recommendations made, among others, were that the teaching of French language should be made compulsory in primary and secondary schools, especially in the Southern part of Nigeria, so that students can have adequate background about the language before they get to the university, and that Government should employ additional competent French teachers for primary school and secondary schools, and lecturers for universities.

Its objectives included figuring out the prevalence of students' drug use, evaluating the effects of drug misuse on students' learning and looking into how the media may help stop drug use in schools. For this study, a survey research methodology was used. Students and teachers from different secondary schools in Delta State made up the study population and a questionnaire was employed as the instrument for gathering data. Social cognitive theory served as the study's foundation. According to the findings, the level of involvement of Delta State secondary school students in drug abuse is high. Additionally, it was discovered that drug misuse has a negative impact on the students' academic abilities and performances, but that media intervention may be able to mitigate, or prevent these consequences. Drawing from the findings, this research recommended that educational institutions give priority to creating and implementing comprehensive substance abuse prevention programmes. To spread relevant and compelling preventive messages, educational institutions should also build alliances with media channels, including radio, television, and online platforms.

The emergence of the social media has put the power of communication in the hands of individuals.... more The emergence of the social media has put the power of communication in the hands of individuals. This exposes the online platform to lots of abuses. To curb this, the government has come up with different forms of regulations to check the abuse of the Internet which has become the order of the day. Since most of the Internet and social media users are youth most of whom are in the universities, this work looked at the awareness and compliance of these students towards the different social media regulations. It is guided by three research objectives and the diffusion of Innovation theory. Out of a population of 218, 949, the researcher, using the Taro Yamane's sample selection formula, selected a sample of 500 respondents from the population. Using the multi-stage sampling procedure, the researcher randomly selected three states out of the five states in the region. In the same manner, three universities were selected from each of the three states - one federal, one state and one private university. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The finding showed that there is low awareness and low compliance to the regulations. The researcher therefore recommends a shift from the communication paradigm employed by the government in reaching the youths who use the social media. The government should also employ the use of the social media in official communication especially when the youths are the target audience.
Whether the various laws and conventions passed across the world mark the end of gender disparity... more Whether the various laws and conventions passed across the world mark the end of gender disparity against the girl-child and women around the globe or not, it appears that they are still victims of discrimination. Therefore, this paper examined the extent media reports encourage general and gender stereotypes/discrimination. It also ascertained if the macho newsroom culture in journalism practice is the reason for biased reporting against the female gender in the media, and likewise determined the factors that make less number of women to practice journalism. It employed a survey research design, used a questionnaire as an instrument for data collection, and it was hinged on the Critical Media Theory. Findings revealed that the media partially accentuate stereotypes and discrimination against the female gender in the society; that it is not true that the macho newsroom culture in journalism practice is the reason for bias reporting in the media against the female gender, and that a lot of factors like Culture, Marriage, Religion, Interest, Nature of Work, and others are the reasons less number of women practice journalism. It was concluded that gender parity must be made a strategic objective for every segment of society. The recommendations, among others, were that the media, being powerful influencers of man`s decision-making faculty, should always display balance while reporting gender issues. They must deliberately democratise news narratives so as to extricate all forms of gender discrimination from them for women to have an equal voice too. Also, more women should venture into the practice of journalism, and ascend the management cadre to ensure gender issues are given prominence. Gender quotas should also be given in newsrooms that could disintegrate the macho-news room culture.

The Covid-19 epidemic, which resulted in serious disease, fatalities, and economic upheaval, had a tremendous effect on the world. Numerous cities in Nigeria were impacted by the virus, including Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State. This study looked at how Port Harcourt citizens communicated and changed their behaviour in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. The study has three objectives: to ascertain Port Harcourt residents' level of awareness of the deadly effects of Covid-19, their familiarity with measures to prevent the virus's transmission, and the degree to which the rules for virus protection were followed. The study used a survey research approach, and a self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. It was anchored on the Social Responsibility, and Agenda setting theories. The study targeted 384 Port Harcourt residents, and multi-stage sampling was used as the sample strategy. Data from the study were analysed using percentages and tables. The study's findings showed that citizens of Port Harcourt had a very high awareness level of the Covid-19 virus's catastrophic effects, demonstrating that they were aware of the virus's effects. Additionally, there was a very high level of knowledge regarding preventative measures to stop the spread of Covid-19, demonstrating that they were aware of the required safeguards. The level of compliance with the virus prevention guidelines was average. The creation and application of targeted communication strategies with the goal of enhancing adherence to preventive measures was advised. Public health campaigns, social media campaigns, and community participation initiatives were recommended. State University, Abraka, and University of Africa (UAT), Toru-Orua, who have watched the video of Kenny
Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of 2018. Hence, the objectives of this study were to
find out respondents'level of satisfaction with Kenny Blaq's musical-drama sub genre of SUC; to ascertain the
therapeutic value of SUC to the respondents, and examine the extent drama and music were infused into the
event. The study is founded on the Reception theory, and it adopts both quantitative and qualitative research
methods. The major findings of the study are that respondents were highly satisfied with Kenny Blaq's
performance, and SUC is considered to have therapeutic value. The study also revealed that Kenny Blaq
excellently imbued music and drama at the Kenny Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of
2018. It was concluded that Stand-up comedians' renditions can be satisfactory to their audience when they
are well informed and conversant with the happenings around them having carried out painstaking research
before mounting the podium to perform. Among the recommendations made was that Nigerian citizens should
take advantage of the therapeutic nature of SUC by exposing themselves to more stand-up comedy to ease off
stress, depression and tension.
