Beyond dream and wakefulness. The Amerindian dream and existence abstract In this article, I analyze the double dimension of the Amerindian dream, as a journey of the soul and as an action caused by beings other than the dreamer. The objective is to discuss some recurring interpretations of the Amerindian dream and to explore the ontological status of the dream to outline an alternative proposal to those analyzes of the indigenous dream experience that reproduce the dream-wake dichotomy. Ethnographic studies on the Amerindian dream and my research among the Pumé indigenous people of the Llanos of southwestern Venezuela are the basis for answering the questions: what is to dream from the experience of the indigenous person? What the dream means? Why is the dream an ontological state, that is, it represents, on the one hand, the principle of vitality of the person and, on the other hand, the foundation of the existence of all the entities that populate the cosmos?

Our study deals with the situation of the «media landscapes», that is, the proliferation of technological communication media in each context, their effective social uses and their transformations over time. For this, we highlight three analytical aspects: 1) innovations in indigenous communication, which have moved from an emphasis on technological appropriation to the need for its incorporation as a cultural value, as well as a change in emphasis from «resistance» to «decolonization», 2) the characteristics that define indigenous communication, and 3) the confirmation of its heterogeneity and involvement in concrete and local social and political realities.

Abstract. In this paper we reflect on hypertextual and transmedia ethnography in methodological, ethical and theoretical terms. Our reflection revolves around the INDIGENOUS MEDIA website, which is part of a collective and comparative research project on the effective uses and meanings of indigenous and African-American media in Latin America. Based on the concepts of multivocality and multimo-dality, we rethink and experiment with ethnographic methodology and writing. Both concepts have the potential to incorporate the notions of difference and hierarchy linked to the idea of a plurality in permanent interaction. Indeed, the main challenge of this project and the INDIGENOUS MEDIA website is to grasp the differences and heterogeneity characteristic of indigenous and African-American communication without dissolving them in ethnographic writing and interpretation. Sumario: 1. Introducción. 2.

As with Amerindian groups in general, the Pume do not have a notion quite equivalent to that one of Humanity. Instead, they distinguish two main classes of beings: those with whom they establish a relationship of continuity through the exchange of souls, and those with whom souls cannot be exchanged: bloodthirsty beings which include certain spirits, some animal species and white people. In this scenario, Pume women represent the only type of being able to establish direct relationships with these bloodthirsty beings. It is argued here that blood is central to understand the relationship and distinction between these two classes of beings.
