Angel Organero Merino
Ángel Organero Merino es Doctor en Humanidades, Artes y Educación por la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), con la tesis "La Prisión de Ocaña: de la Restauración a la Guerra Civil (1883-1936)". Es Graduado en Historia por la misma universidad, lugar en el que también realizó el Máster en Investigación en Letras y Humanidades y el Máster en Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanza de Idiomas.
Su trayectoria investigadora se inició durante el Máster en Investigación en Letras y Humanidades, con la elaboración de su Trabajo Fin de Máster, dedicado al papel de los represaliados toledanos en los campos de trabajo forzado franquistas de Navarra, publicado posteriormente bajo el título "Batallón de pico y pala: cautivos toledanos en Navarra (Lesaka, 1939-1942)" (Pamiela, 2015). Tras dicha publicación, sus investigaciones se han centrado en la historia de la prisión, colaborando, entre otras aportaciones, en la elaboración del libro "La cadena perpetua en España: fuentes para la investigación histórica", publicado por el GEHPIP en 2016. En esta línea de investigación se enmarca su tesis doctoral, dedicada concretamente al estudio de la toledana prisión de Ocaña desde su apertura a finales del siglo XIX hasta el estallido de la Guerra Civil. Su trayectoria investigadora en el ámbito de la historia de la prisión ha sido reconocida con el Premio Nacional Victoria Kent para el fomento de la investigación multidisciplinar en materia penitenciaria, en su edición de 2022.
Desde sus primeras aproximaciones investigadoras, ha formado parte activa de varios proyectos de investigación de ámbito estatal y regional dedicados al estudio de la prisión y las instituciones punitivas, y es miembro del "Grupo de Estudio sobre la Historia de la Prisión y las Instituciones Punitivas" (GEHPIP). También es colaborador del "Fondo Documental de la Memoria Histórica en Navarra", proyecto desarrollado por la Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA) en convenio con el Parlamento de Navarra.

Se parte de los listados conservados en el Archivo Municipal de Lesaka de los integrantes de los Batallones de Trabajadores y Batallones Disciplinarios de Soldados Trabajadores. Centenares de nombres que transcribieron, digitalizaron y pusieron a disposición pública en internet los miembros de la asociación navarra Memoriaren Bideak. Desde ese listado, el autor inicia un recorrido por localidades como El Romeral, La Villa de Don Fadrique o Escalonilla, donde ha contactado con familiares de los toledanos castigados a trabajar en la carretera de montaña que une Lesaka con la localidad guipuzcoana de Oiartzun.
Estas nuevas aportaciones permiten avanzar colectivamente en el conocimiento historiográfico y en las políticas públicas de la memoria, y sería lógico que la carretera del Pirineo occidental, y quizás de todo el Pirineo, que más cautivos requirió para su construcción, sea señalizada desde Lesaka y desde Oiartzun, de modo que quienes la recorren para disfrutar de los paisajes y rincones de Aiako Harria sepan que forma parte del universo represivo franquista (FERNANDO MENDIOLA GONZALO)

La tesis se articula en tres partes. La primera de ellas incluye una aproximación historiográfica a las vicisitudes de la investigación acerca de la historia de la prisión en España, y a la utilidad de la microhistoria para su estudio. Las dos restantes, analizan períodos cronológicos bien diferenciados y relevantes para el estudio de la historia de la prisión en España por causas diversas. En una primera parte, enmarcada entre 1883 y 1914, se analiza la trayectoria del centro durante una etapa en la que es un claro ejemplo de los vaivenes y carencias del sistema de prisiones de la época, permitiendo observar la evolución de dicho sistema y de la propia prisión, que experimenta progresivas mejoras que le permiten abandonar su realidad de viejo establecimiento presidial hacia finales del período. La segunda parte explora la trayectoria de la prisión entre 1914, año en el que cambia completamente su realidad al transformarse en Reformatorio de adultos, el primero en España de su clase, y 1936, fecha en la que el estallido de la Guerra Civil supuso un punto de inflexión en la evolución iniciada 22 años antes. El estudio del penal ocañense durante esta etapa proporciona a la historiografía especializada un análisis en profundidad de lo que supuso la implantación de dicho modelo de prisión, importado de Estados Unidos, en nuestro país.
Con esta investigación, se sitúa a Ocaña en su justo lugar en la historia de la prisión española, aportando un estudio de caso que complementa a la historiografía especializada sobre la materia.
