Abstract Current changes in the dissemination of information and transmission technologies have greatly intensified the global distribution of music. Internet has become a great ally for the staging of music thanks to the emergence of various technologies for recording and distribution, supported by new formats, expanding the catalog of messages that the individual can receive through multiple music available and reopening an old debate about the role of music in the cultural universe. The music industry in the digital age, particularly recorded music, is immersed in an unstoppable evolution of the classical paradigms of the market. In this paper we analyze the evolution of the recording industry which is setting a scene of several clashes between the industry itself and other cultural agents who are becoming better positioned to new technologies.

The present study is intended to show the relations that music and sound provide to two different audio-visual fragments, yet following a similar audiovisual narrative. The first scene belongs to the chapter Be right Back, from the British tv show Black mirror, written by Charlie Brooker, while the second is taken from the movie Her, written by the American director Spike Jonze. Both media show scenes where different artificial intelligence devices are initiated. Through spectral analysis, we deepen on how sound and music combined contribute to the cultural imaginary in establishing relations in sci-fi media where artificial intelligence is the common topic.
Key words: Black Mirror (tv show), Her (movie), analysis, music, spectrogram.

Consumers contribute to new features appearing, when these users start at the same time to create new content. They generate information and add value to that provided by the recording industry. This study intends to show how, from a music video, other forms of expression arise that transcend beyond mere musical content. We will observe new semiotic processes through which the parameters of a specific business object can condition the meanings of others. Thus, we are in a time when new media may use meanings which other existing products provide them indirectly with. In turn, they will become part of the intertext which will continue linking them to others yet to come.
Key words: popular music, intertextuality, music video, music industry, semiotics.

Attention has been focused on making some observations about convergences and divergences when the same piece of music is used in two audio-visual media that are different, yet share some similarities, as is the case with video clips and adverts.
This chapter begins with a brief reflection on the evolution of mass media, focusing on the music industry. It continues with a review of the theoretical and academic framework that has been built around the music video genre. Finally, it structures a methodological approach that seeks to establish the relationship between music videos and adverts, when music is their common element in order to devise an analytical strategy that is as rigorous as possible and allows the similarities and differences that both media present to be observed.
Keywords: audio-visual, media, music video, advert, semiotics, analysis
