Theodoros Mavrogiannis
I am a Professor of Ancient History at the University of Cyprus, Department of History and Archaeology (since 2017). I studied Ancient History and Classical Archaeology at the University of Perugia (1983-1990) (summa cum laude). I continued my studies at the University of Freiburg i. Br. (1992-1995), with a PhD in Ancient History (summa cum laude). Since 1998 I have been teaching at the University of Cyprus as Assistant and Associate Professor (2004-2017). In 2013 I founded the Post-Graduate programme in Ancient History. My scientific interests include Greek and Roman History in the East, Alexander and Hellenistic History, as well as Topography and monuments of Cyprus and the Near East. I have published about 60 papers in five languages and 4 books and another 1 forthcoming. My work is focused on aspects of political, social and economic history of the Ancient world, by evaluating the contribution of the written sources and the monuments, thus combining History and Archaeology. As far as ancient sites are concerned, I have worked on Athens, Delos, Pergamon, Cyprus (Nea Paphos, Salamis, Kourion, Amathous, Kition, Lapethos, Chytroi), Alexandria, Tyre and other sites in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraqi Kurdistan).
