There is a growing concern with the economic consumption and unlimited accumulation model because improvement in some parameters implies that others are negatively affected. There is a need for more intellectual wealth, not only oriented towards the market, but also towards engineering and technology. Methodology:
To measure natural/environmental, human, intellectual, public/institutional, and private wealth, the basic results of the Índice de desarrollo territorial sustentable (IDTS, spanish acronyms) are used, which is formed by 60 variables. With data from the 2000-2010 period, the relationship between the 5 types of wealth and sustainability is analyzed using principal component analysis. Results:
At the municipal and departmental levels, the direction of the natural and environmental wealth was found to be opposite direction to the other four. The distance between the different types of wealth ended up being important, and it increases with the IDTS. Conclusions:
The development model followed by Colombia is negatively affecting the natural and environmental wealth and as so is unsustainable. Neither research nor innovation are making adequate use of the natural resources at municipal level, and autonomous regional corporations may be ineffective against the inadequate use of this wealth. It is imperative to modify this exploitation model and reduce the distance between the five types of wealth. Although it is necessary to adopt and develop engineering and technology adequate to biodiversity and tropical geography, this is not enough; substantial social and institutional innovation are also needed in the face of a complex, uncertain, and dizzying technological reality, which is also inequitable at the social and interregional scale. Methodology: An electronic nose (eNose), a quadcopter drone with gas, temperature, and humidity sensors was developed. The drone was assembled with 3D printed parts and tested for properties like structural rigidity. The eNose samples gases, manages a sensor array, acquires data, extracts features, and classifies them with suitable classification algorithms.
Results: The eNose drone system provides a versatile technology for autonomous monitoring of diverse environments. A logarithmic calibration curve was observed for the CO sensor.
Conclusions: The implementation of a eNose drone system and its application to the detection and study of gases in volcanic areas would be innovative in Argentina. The system can access remote dangerous areas and is versatile. Different gas sensors like H2S or SO2 can be added.

Objective: Determine the optimal value of past samples and time to recalculate decision criteria for decision-making algorithms in cognitive radio networks.
Methodology: Several simulation experiments are performed from the FFAHP algorithm, in two different approaches, real-time and best-effort, with high and low traffic, in the GSM frequency band. A statistical analysis of the data obtained is performed, varying the time range parameters, while time criteria remains constant, and vice versa.
Results: For high traffic it is enough to take 1800 previous samples to calculate the initial value of the parameters and update them every 10 minutes (1800). If the traffic is low, it is enough to take 5400 previous samples to calculate the initial value of the parameters and update them every 10 minutes (1800).
Conclusions: A large number of previous samples is not necessary to determine the initial value of the decision parameters to obtain a good performance of the handoff rate, nor is it necessary for updating them, for traffic corresponding to the band of GSM frequency.

However, adjusting its parameters in search of an optimal scheme can be complex because it requires manual tuning by trial and error. This research aims to implement an optimized tuning scheme through a search based on the idealized behavior of a community of bacteria and its Quorum Sensing (QS).
Methodology: A closed-loop system model with PID control considering disturbances is proposed in order to tune a disturbance-resistant controller. The response of the model is calculated using a search that mimics a simplified model of bacterial behavior. The scheme uses ITSE (Integral Time Squared Error) as the performance index.
Results: The tuning resulting from the proposed scheme was evaluated by simulation and compared with tunings of the same model made by Root Locus and Genetic Algorithms (GA). The results showed a satisfactory response according the design criteria.
Conclusions: Nowadays, PID controllers are still basic industrial control tools, particularly important in motor operation. The performance of these controls depends fundamentally on the design of their gain. In the case of complex plants, additional tools are required to facilitate PID tuning. We propose an intelligent and bio-inspired tuning scheme that demonstrates high performance in laboratory tests.

In this work, the adsorbent capacity of rice husk by-product (RH) in the Red 40 (R40) anionic dye removal was evaluated under a discontinuous system.
Method: For determining the best conditions for the removal of this dye, a factorial design 23 was implemented, which allows to achieving a removal of 75.6% at pH = 2.0, an initial concentration of 15 mg/L, dosage of 8.0 g/L, and contact time of 18 hours.
Results: The equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamic properties of the process were evaluated. It was found that the Langmuir model best represents the experimental results with qmax of 2.74 mg/g and an adjustment coefficient of R2=0.987. Regarding kinetics, the pseudosecond order model with qt of 1.09 mg/g presented the best fit (R2 = 0.970). Finally, Gibbs free energy (ΔG = -1.11 KJ/mol) and entropy (ΔS = 23.9 J/mol*K) indicate a spontaneous process, while enthalpy showed that the removal of R40 constitutes an endothermic process, with ΔH = 6.71 KJ/mol. Furthermore, the activation energy of 14.1 KJ/mol suggests that the mechanism of adsorption of the R40 takes place through a physi-adsorption.
Conclusions: These results indicate that the rice husk offers a adequate adsorbent capacity for the retention of azo dye off contaminated effluents; besides, scaling up this process is feasible given its thermodynamic characteristics.
