Abstract: In this article, we put in evidence that Literature corresponds to a System, not only to a group of writers acting in an isolated way. Thus, authors very “far” from one another (sometimes, centuries apart) may influence each other. This is exactly what happens in the story called “Civilization”, whose author is the Portuguese writer José Maria de Eça de Queirós (1845-1900), through the recovery of the classical theme of counterpoint between the city and the countryside. In fact, since Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, going through the Roman poets Horace and Virgil (1st. century B.C.), occidental authors have been adopting the practice of comparing these two environments and the human implications involved. Moreover, the storyteller of the nineteenth century incorporates elements that are specifically bucolic in the narrative mentioned, such as the tópos of locus amoenus.

Abstract: Originated from the encounter between different peoples, the Chicano community has as a founding point of its identity the fusion of elements from the Mexican and American cultural matrices, including also in this process of hybridization its pre-Columbian indigenous roots. This ethnic group seeks the elaboration and affirmation of an autonomous identity, and fights for rights and better living conditions in the context that historically oppresses it, so it carries out movements of resistance and affirmation, and literature and theater are fundamental instruments in these processes. The playwright Luis Valdez is one of the greatest exponents of Chicano theater and responsible for the elaboration of acts, brief and didactic works, whose objective was to illuminate important issues of the life of the Chicano people, aiming at social transformation in their context. An example of these pieces is Quinta temporada (1966), which addresses the exploitation that Chicanos rural workers suffered in the fields of the southwestern region of the USA at that time and denounces how the agrarian system of that country exploited and benefited from the labor of Hispanic origin workers. This article aims to comment on some aspects of the translation process of Quinta temporada for the Portuguese.

Abstract: Between 2020 and 2022, we were involved in a funded English language teacher education project: Pibid (Institutional Program for Teaching Initiation). Concomitant with the challenges encountered with the development of the project, we had to face the issue of absence-presence generated by the forced holding of online meetings, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In this text, we discuss how a group of teachers managed to build relationships of affection, support, friendship and collaboration despite the physical distance imposed by the suspension of face-to-face activities during the period. In a conversation round of debate, we resumed some of the impressions of the participants about what they learned and, in analysis, we demonstrated how it was possible to create bonds, learn together about teaching and overcome emotional gaps even when gathered remotely.

Onde começa a literatura?

Abstract: This article aims to present the way in which Mia Couto's prose seeks to give voice to subjects made invisible by the Portuguese Colonial Empire established in several countries on the African continent, like Mozambique, the author's country of origin. In his novels, it is possible to consider that the writer elaborates cultural and political manifestos related to the history of oppression and violence that the Mozambican nation went through, subjugated mainly to the authoritarianism of the Salazar Regime, highlighting the indispensable relevance of exposing to readers the testimony of struggle for the freedom of this people and the incessant search for the truth, once swept under the rugs of the Portuguese police, through narratives that do not obey a Eurocentric worldview. To develop the theme, the most recent novel by Mia Couto is used as a textual reference, which is called O mapeador de ausências (2020), without forgetting to mention some previous literary productions such as Terra sonâmbula (1992), A varanda do frangipani (1996) and Vinte e Zinco (1999), works also important for the understanding of decolonial mapping to be addressed in this text.

Abstract: It is possible to highlight that all literary production until the arrival of the 20th century dominated by men is also a persistent element within the bildungsroman (Novel of Formation). A specific male protagonist (a young male hero) is explicit in this aspect. Thus, the character's journey consists of a male-only learning and training framework. With the arrival of the 20th century, intensely marked by the beginning of the feminist waves that expanded women's rights, the literary ascendancy produced by women became evident. Relevant to this perspective, the female bildungsroman emerges, configured as a literary and historical review. From the 1980s and 1990s onwards, with the growth of feminist and post-colonial studies, definitions of the concept of Bildungsroman underwent revisions and when we think of female bildungsroman, it is not just a change of the main character or the masculine writer by a woman, but in the consideration of differences between the genders, not in the sense that one is greater than the other, but that the conditions of the feminine universe are respected, without stereotypes in literary creation. From this perspective, we read and analyzed the novel of formation called Summer in the Aquarium, by Lygia Fagundes Telles.

Abstract: Starting from the eighth thesis on Walter Benjamin's concept of history, this essay tried to describe a precipitation of a new possible language games, in which aesthetics and letters are mixed with the streets of late modern cities. It addresses the technical and tactical use of street posters as an urban art, becoming a form and also occupying an interesting space in the geography and architecture of these cities. This work has become an experience substantially crossed by the plurality of languages that intersect themselves in street art, forming images that are already ruins. From transitional fragments and assemblages, so crucial to Benjamin's thought, this work tried to exceed the merely communicative potential of language use in the contemporary world, trying to dedicate itself to the expressive potential for the exercise of literary criticism and writing.

Abstract: Across models, Western thought (in an European matrix) assigned to language, to literature-art, to culture, to society, to official narratives of arborescent scheme and debt feature. In this picture, all non-European cultural manifestations would be affiliated with it and, therefore, would not have the ability to pose creative uses other than a copy. Even worse: outside Europe there would be no valid culture. Over time, and across the rule, this vision has oppressed cultures and justified wars. In view of what has been mentioned, several studies was and have been constituted. For the current text, as a critical-methodological-insurgent element, I use the rhizome and the idea of a minor language, in order to undertake a concise and intentional reading of Finisterra, a novel by Carlos de Oliveira (1982), and of a poem, without title, by Douglas Diegues. Through these readings, I propose micro-scores on the work with and through the literary, which takes place through zones of confrontation and approximation and not purely historiographical, when historiography means chronology without context and without memory. Here literary work is understood as which of someone who writes, teaches, reads, is interested in literature, for what there is of potency in their ecology of language, politics and aesthetics.

Abstract: The article proposes to discuss the archetypes of literary narrative, based on the poetic anthropology of the French interdisciplinary thinker Gilbert Durand (1921-2012). The discursive outline has the so-called anthropological path of the Durandian imaginary as its background, from which the author establishes the semantic dynamism of the daytime imaginary and the nocturnal imaginary, elementary formators of the mythical narrative, the religious doctrine, the philosophical system, and of the historical and legendary narrative, from which conclusions can be drawn about the matrices of contemporary fictional narrative. In other words, Gilbert Durand's poetic anthropology promotes serious reflections on the constitution of the current narrative discourse thread, based on concepts such as schemes, archetypes, and symbols.

Abstract: One needs to ignore oneself, in order to recognize oneself. This is the long road traveled by the protagonist Mariano of Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra, by Mia Couto. Stemming from the study of the referred novel, this paper is set to investigate the formation process of the memory, which pervades the experience in the conflicting path between time, character and world, taking shape as a discourse of the diaspora that concocts the human condition. The fictional figure is focalized here as a phenomenon that, conditioned by the temporality inherent to the narrative setting process, highlights the constitutive nature of the subject, allowing to the reader the formulation of images of men in the course of being-in-the-world. The narrative dynamic operated in the construction of memory enables one to access a reality of its own, one of being further from the petrifications or unitary inventions of reason.

Therefore, teaching Portuguese implies helping students to turn their implicit grammatical knowledge into explicit grammatical knowledge, systematizing it and becoming aware of it in order to be introduced to the standard norm. For this reason, it does not make sense to ask if grammar should be taught or not, but it does make sense to ask how it can be taught in a way which is meaningful to students. And to answer that question, it is important to remember that pedagogical practice needs to be based on theories, on basic theoretical concepts. One of such concepts is communicative competence proposed by Michael Canale (1990). To show its importance for the teaching of the grammar of Portuguese as a first language is the objective of this text, which aims at both Portuguese teachers and Portuguese teachers to be. In order to do that, the first section brings a contextualization of the creation of the concept of communicative competence. In the second section, the role this concept can play in the teaching of grammar is presented based on the teaching of personal pronouns to learners of Portuguese as a first language. The discussion carried out here originated from the research project “The model of communicative competence for Portuguese teaching” within the scope of the Group of Studies about Languages and Cultures.

Abstract: This article brings up some discussions on the processes of subjectivation and resistance that sexual dissidents experience nowadays. Its main objective is to problematize, from a discursive bias in the Foucauldian perspective, some identity practices considered deviant, in the light of language studies. A bibliographic research methodology is adopted, taking as a starting point some Foucault’s works (2001, 2004, 2010, 2014) among others which problematize the theme. The discussions reveal that discourses produce subjectivities, control lives, administer techniques through useful devices which maintain a supposed normalizing social order which can tangent a categorization of identities and police bodies otherwise.

Abstract: Gender inequality is a historical reality attested to in all societies. Based on the real patriarchal culture of the great religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism), one cannot deny the important role of tradition and religion in gender inequality in countries such as Senegal. In Muslim countries, where religion and the state go hand in hand, some everyday practices unrelated to Islam are applied and, unfortunately, justified by religion. In this bias, it is believed that one of the Muslim women's identities is constructed via the husband's identity or submission to the husband. Therefore, she can suffer an identity crisis, being condemned to remain in a condition “inferior” to the man. Thus, in compliance with the Koran and the studies of Beauvoir (1970), Bugul (1999), Adiche (2015) and Couto, Couto and Borges (2015), the present study aimed to discuss, through Ecosystemic Discourse Analysis, the sacred verses referring to marriage and inheritance, in order to investigate the social, mental and physical sufferings that victimize Muslim women. In particular, it was possible to notice that Senegalese women, in marriage, are victims of the following types of suffering: physical (because it is her husband's plowed field, she can even be beaten by him); social (how

Abstract: The aim of this research is to know which paradigm between the action paradigm and the communication paradigm enables the learning of oral productive skills within the context of French for International Relations and Diplomacy learning. Thus we confronted the theories at stake (communication paradigm and action paradigm) and also built two programs of French for International Relations and Diplomacy, the former being communicative and the latter being action-based. Likewise, two distinct questionnaires were designed, in light of the precepts of each theory, for a corpus of sixty individuals with thirty each. We conducted the communication and action pre-tests. After correcting the pre-tests, we had the initial status of the knowledge of both groups. This initial status was capitalized within the communication or action-based training which took place between the pre-test and the post-test. After the corrections and clearance of post-tests results, we started conducting a data analysis which led us to the following conclusion: the action paradigm enables the teaching of productive oral skills since the pre- and post-test recorded a progression in the order of 3.0% (93.7 % to 96.7 %) against 6.7 % (90 % to 96.7) and these results allow us to state that the action paradigm enables the teaching/learning of productive oral skills within the context of French for International Relations and Diplomacy teaching.

Abstract: Female sexual freedom still can be questioned by contemporary society, although the social role of women has undergone some changes over time. This text was born in this hypothesis. Thus, the objective is to discursively analyze sections from two contemporary texts to show the parts that correspond to the concept that sex is still taboo, especially when the speaker is a woman. The framework of Discourse Analysis supports this work, a set of theories in which the contributions of the philosopher Michel Foucault have been relevant. Therefore, the research corpus consists of two texts found online, being the first: Is there a world of sexual experimentation for women? by Helena Bertho, published by the electronic magazine Azmina in 2019; the second is from the social network Instagram, a publication by Lorena Muniz in 2020. The analyzes show that, when the subject is sex, female discourse still is banned, in other words, it is not always possible to speak openly about the subject. This interdiction is related to the fact that female sexual freedom is not yet socially accepted and, as soon, there is a need for such discourses to be analyzed.

Abstract: The teaching of grammar is an unavoidable practice in Portuguese as a first language classes due to the fact that it is an inherent part of the language system.

ABSTRACT: In this article we present an objectivating hermeneutic of the theoretical and methodological formulation of Foucault's criticism of the document. Our aim is to separate the historically marked enunciative gesture of The Archaeology of Knowledge from its operating assumptions that would conform the basis of the subsequent discourse analysis. In this sense, we take the textual terminality of Foucault's work on the perspective of linguistic historiography, avoiding the production of an analysis of the author's theoretical discourse. Therefore, we resume the concepts of the Foucaultian archaeology and their applicability through the reproduction of textual fragments where they are and through the analysis of the coherence of the lexicalization of these terms in categorical hierarchy and its proposal for empirical coverage.

Abstract: José Saramago is one of the most significant Portuguese writers of the 20th century. His work is composed of the most diverse literary genres and addresses different themes that range from historical revisiting to novels that are constituted from the allegorical representation of society and different ways of thinking about the world. As a writer, Saramago wanted to recognize in his literature distinctive features and above all, the humanistic message of empathy and dignity. Based on the ideas of authors such as Jean Paul Sartre, Jacques Derrida, Umberto Eco, Ítalo Calvino and critical voices of Portuguese literature, this essay proposes a reading of three Saramago’s novels: Blindness, All the names and The double presenting a possibility of interpreting the author's desire to build a literature that awakens in readers a sense of otherness and equality in relation to the other, based on the concept of literariness.

Abstract: We propose in this article to reflect on female pain and suffering, based upon our Reading of the narrative “The deathbed prophecy”, by Ana Plácido, that forms part of her 1863 work Luz coada por ferros (Light filtered through bars). Our intention is to examine how, with reference to the main protagonists of the piece, Plácido examines female suffering caused by intense pain, thereby elucidating one of the key problematics of the female condition with which her work deals.

Abstract: The East Asian diaspora (referring to migrants from China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea) in Latin American territory and, specifically, in Argentina is gradually being made visible in cinematographic productions in the region and the country. In this text we propose a reflection on this gradual process of visibility and representation of people of East Asian and Asian-Argentine origin in Argentine cinematographic productions, taking as an analysis perspective the Argentine-Spanish co-production Chinese Take-Away (Un cuento chino – 2011), written and directed by Argentine filmmaker Sebastián Borensztein (1963). For this approach, we put in a linguistic-dialogical relationship, theoretical principles of Cultural Studies and Pecheutian Discourse Analysis, and we carry out some brief historical-contextual revisions.

Abstract: The teaching of grammar is an unavoidable practice in Portuguese as a first language classes due to the fact that it is an inherent part of the language system.
