In this article we claim an exercise of approaching the works of Oswald de Andrade and Haroldo de Campos, through the incorporation and sharing of a certain anthropophagic gesture related to history. We are particularly interested in analyzing how the two authors mobilized extracts of historicity to accomplish the tension in history and in temporality. To do so, we use essays and critical texts of the two writers, analyzing how within their "historiographic" projects-either in the erratic oswaldiana or paideuma haroldiano-history is invested with a reflexive and disruptive potential for the present. In this way, the horizon of anthropophagic historiography seems to allow the emergence of silenced pasts and a kind of synchronous rearrangement, both retrospective and utopian.

Palavras-chave: Retrato do Brasil; Paulo Prado; Blaise Cendrars. Abstract: Retrato do Brasil, essay written by Paulo Prado (1869-1943) and published in 1928, shows itself definitely marked by a tension between tradition and modernity. However, instead of describing a constitutive tension on Paulo Prado " s writings, the movement assumed in this paper turns to underline the dialogue established with the poet Blaise Cendrars at the moment of the rediscovery of Brazil and the deep meaning he recognizes in Retrato do Brasil. The conversation about the proposed portrait indicates a proficuous intellectual exchange witch emerges from the relationship between Blaise Cendrars and Brazil, mainly with the modernists from São Paulo, that may emphasize the peculiar traces of Paulo Prado " s work and its affinity with a certain inner substance manifested in the poet " s vanguard fiction.

(1869-1943) expressa no Post-Scriptum de Retrato do Brasil: ensaio sobre a tristeza
brasileira (1928).

Abstract
This article analyzes the literary historiography of Antonio Candido, expressed in the book Formação da literatura brasileira (1959). Understanding Candido's textual architecture as a narrative of transition, in which the crucial moments of Brazilian literature are selected, suggests a permanent tension between tradition and modernity, and the unfinished character of our literary formation. Thus, aiming to grasp the relation between tradition and modernity, as the ground of a national literature, we propose a schillerian approach. Perhaps through the passage from a naïve literature to a sentimental one, it may be possible to identify the sense of Brazilian literature formation's theory expressed by Candido.
