RESUMO Dentre as ferramentas da melhoria contínua, o Ciclo PDCA se configura como um importante m... more RESUMO Dentre as ferramentas da melhoria contínua, o Ciclo PDCA se configura como um importante meio para obter a qualidade organizacional e tem desempenhado a tarefa de melhorar e desenvolver os processos administrativos organizacionais. Para a concretização deste trabalho, aplicou-se a metodologia de estudo de caso em campo, por meio de duas fontes: a documentação e a entrevista, na busca por analisar como os aspectos do Ciclo PDCA estão presentes na gestão de uma escola pública do agreste paraibano, e propor ações de melhoria com base nos resultados obtidos. O aspecto teórico utilizado foi a ferramenta desenvolvida por W. Edwards Deming juntamente com Walter Shewhart, o Ciclo PDCA. O tratamento dos dados foi realizado por meio de análise qualitativa, que possibilitou o exame e a reflexão necessários para entender como acontece o processo de melhoria contínua na organização estudada. No que tange aos resultados, foi identificado que os gestores não fazem uso da ferramenta do Ciclo PDCA, de maneira direta, para o auxílio na solução de problemas e tomada de decisão na escola, mas ficou claro que a organização desenvolve, mesmo que parcialmente, todas as etapas da ferramenta, ficando como sugestão a implantação do Ciclo para que os resultados sejam obtidos e analisados de maneira mais completa, auxiliando a organização a fazer um replanejamento das metas que não foram alcançadas em sua totalidade e alcançar a melhoria contínua. Gestão escolar. 1 INTRODUÇÃO Assim como as empresas, as escolas também precisam procurar atingir seus objetivos e metas, buscando melhorar seu desempenho para acompanhar as mudanças do mundo globalizado. Para tanto, elas devem criar condições internas para garantir sua sobrevivência e prosperidade frente às ameaças advindas dessas mudanças. Dessa forma, é essencial para uma escola a busca pela melhoria contínua, que deve fazer parte do dia-a-dia e do desenvolvimento da organização. Uma das maneiras de alcançá-la é a utilização do Ciclo PDCA. Assim, a melhoria contínua segundo Toledo (2013) é um processo que contém um conjunto de enfoques, atividades e ações que devem ser empregadas para integrar, no processo de direção, os conceitos e práticas da melhoria da qualidade, para construir e sustentar, em todos os níveis da organização, um compromisso em busca da qualidade que permite detectar ineficiências internas, prevenir falhas e solucionar problemas. As letras que formam o nome do ciclo, PDCA, significam em inglês: Plan, Do, Check, Action, que em português implicam em: Planejamento, Execução, Verificação, Ação Corretiva. Cada medida faz parte dos passos básicos do ciclo concebido por Shewhart e aprimorado posteriormente por Deming. A necessidade dessa abordagem, para melhoria dos processos em busca da qualidade organizacional, nos faz levantar a seguinte indagação: como aspectos do Ciclo PDCA estão presentes na gestão de uma escola pública do agreste paraibano?
