All of a sudden, Sammer receives by mistake a shipment of five hundred jews coming from Greece and a few days later the order to exterminate them. This episode and its ethical consequences yield the present article. First of all, Sammer is compared to Adolf Eichmann, a prominent member of the Nazi Party, in order to evaluate Sammer's responsibility and guilty in the context of the totalitarian regime. Secondly , the ethical orientation of Sammer is seen from the perspective of Ricoeur's, Badiou's and Lévinas' respective ideas concerning the Self, the Other and the autonomy of the individual facing the Evil. Finally, the article affirms that the ambivalent discourse of Sammer is, in fact, the repetition of the totalitarian pattern from which he persistently tries to detach himself.

Abstract: This article is a review of literature produced in a context of war and catastrophe, focusing on its aporetic discourse. Here we realize that testimonial narratives show a fresh contribution to a new phenomenology of the archive, which goes back to the origin of literature itself.

ABSTRACT Ricoeur's hermeneutics postulates that the interpreter opens him/herself up to another self. While approaching or drifting away from the text, the self of the interpreter gets wider each time. There should be an aporia: can the interpreter take as his/her own that very self when it seems to belong to another person? This article intends to investigate the logic underneath this aporia and its consequences to the ethics of interpretation.

Abstract: This article discusses the occultation of the feminine in the novel Lavoura arcaica, underlining the indispensability of the narrative framing to the maintenance of patriarchal Law. It argues that the dance performed by Ana has political consequences, which motivate the masculinist elaboration of speech. Reporting to the Oedipal Complex, it contests the hypothesis that conceives André as the transgressor in order to locate him in consonance with phallocentric politics. Having as main reference Judith Butler, this text dimensionates the inevitability, fabricated and imposed by the Law, of feminine silence and, hence, of the political consequences caused by such subjectivity when freed.

Intenção do autor.
Abstract: This article deals with the folding screen metaphor created by Umberto Eco in Postscript to The Name of the Rose (1983). We contrast this metaphor with the main concepts and notions present in Eco's theoretical works, in order to evince the mechanisms of composition of Eco's debut novel. Here we tried to analyze how far can we go in considering the folding screen as an alternative to the dichotomies presented in the semiotic works of Eco, such as empirical-author, implied-author, author's intention and work's intention.

ABSTRACT: This article deals with the concept of abduction within Umberto Eco's theoretical work. The main goal of this text is to show how Umberto Eco disdains the aesthetic component in favor of a more cognitive approach of artistic fruition. Besides, the article intends to show the relationship between abduction and the Kantian concept of teleological judgment. It also offers, as a conclusion, an analysis of some of the consequences of this relationship which Umberto Eco was not totally aware of.
