Summary   The synthesis and phase behavior of three homopolymers with liquid crystalline side-chains is described. These new homopolymers show a dependence of the phase transition temperatures on the molecular weight. The synthesized material exhibits typical mesomorphism-nematic, smectic A and C. We compare the mesomorphic behavior of the homopolymers of the different liquid crystals polyacrylates. In addition, a dynamic and static

PET nanocomposites were prepared using montmorillonite with different organic modifiers (Cloisite® 15A, 30B and 10A). TEM, WAXD and DSC were used for the characterization. Nanocomposites of intercalated and exfoliated morphologies were obtained, and an average maximum distance between the platelets was observed in the intercalated morphology. The clay nucleated the PET crystallization process, and the nucleating effect was higher when

The complex [η3-methallyl-nickel-dad]PF6 is a new catalyst precursor for ethylene polymerization. The system is active in the presence of usual organoaluminium compounds like diethylaluminium chloride, at low Al/Ni ratios and under mild reaction conditions (temperatures between −10°C and 25°C, ethylene partial pressure from 1 to 15 atm). The polymers show extensive methyl branching, whose content is controlled by reaction parameters like temperature and ethylene pressure.

The toughening of polypropylene [PP] with styrene–butadiene–styrene rubber [SBS]/montmorillonite [MMT] nanocomposites was investigated with respect to morphological, thermal, and mechanical properties. The MMT/SBS nanocomposites were prepared in an internal mixer, using an epoxidized SBS [SBSe] to investigate its effect as a compatibilizer. The MMT/SBS nanocomposite was added to PP up to 10 wt%, aiming at material toughening. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM)

.   The copolymerization of ethylene with 1-hexene using Et[Ind]2ZrCl2/MAO as catalyst was studied by multivariate methods. Three complete factorial designs were performed to study the influence of 1-hexene concentration, reaction temperature and [Al]/[Zr] ratio on catalytic activity, copolymer viscosity, crystallinity and melting point. Since the [Al]/[Zr] ratio has a small effect on the catalytic activity, a fourth design with 1-hexene
