The investigation is informed by a socioconstructionist epistemology of discourse and social identities (MOITA LOPES; 2006), and guided by the applied studies of language in situated contexts (RAMPTON, 2006) with a view to establishing a dialogue between local interaction and translocal/transhistorical dimensions. We begin by problematising the constructs of language, subject, reality and knowledge, key to any politically engaged research aimed at inventing alternatives for issues of contemporary life. We then present an analysis of the corporeal-discursive identitary performance of a teacher giving her demonstration class in a public selection as a way of illustrating our theoretical framework.

In terms of foundations, we intend to articulate the discursive perspective of language to postcolonial / decolonial theorization. Such theoretical articulations aim to bring up a certain conception of language as imbricated to the social context and as a space of manifestation and clashes between different discursive practices. The presentation of “Sarau” is made through a general description of the performances exhibited during the event and also through a more in-depth analysis of four poems recited by the students. By doing so, we try to show the importance of discussing and giving visibility to voices of resistance, which are sometimes subalternized. From the theoretical-p...

ABSTRACT: The battle against racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and sexist practices constitutes an ethical-political challenge both to society as a whole and to the field of Social Research. This paper highlights discourses of resistance to the widespread manifestations of hate speech and human rights violations, especially towards minoritized groups, articulated since the 2018 presidential election in Brazil, when Jair Bolsonaro was elected president. This study is based on a socioconstructionist view of discourse and social identities, whose key analytical foundation is the power of intervention of language. The analyzed texts reveal the construction of intersectional racial, gendered, and geographical identities, as well as the adoption of a critical stance towards the politics of exclusion by using media literacy competences so as to spread counter discourses in online social networks.

We see language as a social practice (BAKHTIN, 1995; 1997) which, socio-historically situated and crisscrossed by power-knowledge relations (FOUCAULT, 2013; 2013a), not only represents, but intervenes upon a given reality.

We see language as a social practice (BAKHTIN, 1995; 1997) which, socio-historically situated and crisscrossed by power-knowledge relations (FOUCAULT, 2013; 2013a), not only represents, but intervenes upon a given reality. As for the racial question, we subscribe to Guimarães’ understanding (2006; 2009) that such a process derives from colonization practices, which deprived African people of their identity, and that it is reinforced in discourses which aim at maintaining the hegemonic group’s privileges. In order to do so, in line...

These analyzes dialogue with a documentary called A Negação do Brasil (2000), which deals with the role assigned to black actors in Brazilian soap opera. Concerning to racism, we dialogue with Araújo (2000, 2001, 2008) reections, Munanga (2006), Hall (2006) and, regarding to language, we take the dialogic principle proposed by Bakhtin (2000) and Rocha (2006) reections about the language's intervention role. Our Avancini's text analysis point to a speech that perpetuates stereotype of black people in our society, what makes hard to deconstruct white's hegemony in the collective imaginary.

In this sense, we present a discursive analysis of advertising/propaganda of the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, widely broadcast on Brazilian television media in 2014. Concerning the language, beyond the dialogical view of Bakhtin (2000), we used Foucault's contributions (2003), Maingueneau (2005, 2013) and Moita Lopes (2009). With respect to concepts of race and racism, we dialogue with Munanga (2006), Hall (2006) and Guimarães (2009).

ABSTRACT: The battle against racist, xenophobic, homophobic, and sexist practices constitutes an ethical-political challenge both to society as a whole and to the field of Social Research. This paper highlights discourses of resistance to the widespread manifestations of hate speech and human rights violations, especially towards minoritized groups, articulated since the 2018 presidential election in Brazil, when Jair Bolsonaro was elected
president.
