The term and its significations are analyzed under three headings: 1) its usage in Hesiod and Heraclitus; 2) its relation to human physis and éthos (where Parmenides' and Democritus' views particularly stand out); 3) the meaning Socrates gave to it.Este artigo analisa a sobreposição filosófica que o termo daímon (originário do mito e denso em significações impostas pelo imaginário popular) recebeu no desenvolvimento histórico da Filosofia Grega.

The article takes as a reference La Recherche de la Verite , a dialogue Descartes wrote in 1641, right after the Meditations . The truth alluded to refers, on the one hand, to the precepts of science , that is, to what about things and phenomena we can objectively affirm as constituting knowledge; on the other hand, to the knowing subject, in relation to which the cogito , beyond overcoming doubt (pertaining to knowledge in general), has the role of rescuing the I in its own singularity: as the objective, human I , naturally given to self-knowledge as a knowing subject. Key words: Descartes, cogito , truth, knowledge, science.

It also demonstrates how Xanthippe accomplished something similar, exercising in relation to Socrates the same love that marked the attitude and motivation of the philosopher in relation to knowledge. Aspasia, who was linked to Pericles, represents the ideal woman that Athenian policy could and should promote; Xanthippe, linked to Socrates, represents the ideal woman of the philosophical project as conceived by Plato in the Republic.

The goals of the syllabus used to be, on the one hand, enabling the children to use the intellect, and, on the other hand, professional, social and human amendment. The paper uses two sources. First, the ancient philosophers. Second, other educational conceptions spread all over the Greek civilization in the Hellenistic age. Concerning the ancient philosophers, the paper analyzes a single dictum attributed to three different philosophers: Gorgias, Aristippus and Bion. The subject of the dictum is a comparison between, on the one hand, philosophy and Penelope, and, on the other hand, the other disciplines of the syllabus and Penelope’s servants.
