It is customary to consider that the error terms follow the Gaussian distribution. However, there are some drawbacks of Gaussian errors such as the distribution being mesokurtic having kurtosis three. In many practical situations the variables under study may not be having mesokurtic but they are platykurtic. Hence, to analyze these sorts of platykurtic variables, a two variable regression model with new symmetric distributed errors is developed and analyzed. The Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimators of the model parameters are derived. The properties of the ML estimators with respect to the new symmetrically distributed errors are also discussed. A simulation study is carried to compare the proposed model with that of Gaussian errors and found that the proposed model performs better when the variables are platykurtic. Some applications of the developed model are also pointed out. Key Words: Gaussian errors; Maximum Likelihood; New Symmetric Distribution; Platykurtic; Simulation Studies

The designs are found to be optimal for estimating elementary contrasts of first and second kind of general effects. A method of analysis of these mating designs is also shown by numerical example.

A sample of 315 currently-married women of reproductive age groups (between 15-49 years) were selected through stratified and simple random sampling techniques among the eligible women residing in Arada sub City, Addis Ababa. To put this study in to effect, primary data were collected on the basis of face-to-face interview approach using structured questioners. To this end, the major socio-economic and demographic determinants of this fertility decline are identified using descriptive and logistic regression techniques. The result of the analysis indicate that religion, women educational level, region, source of income, residential status, increase in awareness to contraceptive use, annual monthly income and marriage length were the most generic reasons by which fertility has declined in Addis Ababa. Poor employment prospects and relatively high housing costs are likely factors that encourage couples to delay marriage and reduce marital fertility.
