This essay examines the context of their transoceanic journey: Did they arrive as isolated pieces, or were they part of a larger artistic exchange? Although he will be remembered for his decision to capitulate in favour of Britain during the siege of the city of Manila, his broad humanist background, as a lover of arts and letters, left his imprint on the cultural heritage of that time.

They sailed the internal waters of the archipelago, heading for the San Bernardino Strait towards the Pacific. They took advantage of the Kuro Shivo Current, bordered California coast. Finally, they arrived at the port of Acapulco on October 8th, 1565. With this voyage a permanent transpacific route was established for two hundred and fifty years, from 1565 to 1815, which assumed the hegemony of the Pacific Ocean as a commercial space, turning the ports of Cavite and Acapulco into preferential enclaves of the oriental goods of Southeast Asia. We will analyze this transpacific route through chronicles of religious, merchants and adventurers, focusing on daily aspects that allow us to figure out a visual imaginary of the Manila Galleon, its route, goods and ports.

This led to the growth of art forms which were the result of the mixture of Eastern, New Spanish and Spanish influences. The best example of this cultural synergy is to be found in the Hispano-Philippine ivory work which have been handed down to us, and in Granada we are lucky enough to have some magnificent examples, which wil...

This paper examines the garments and furniture which are held in the New Granada churches, especially the eastern goods which arrived at Terra Firme by means of the sea link connecting the Indies Route with the Manila Galleon. Silk was an especially important material in the making of church garments.

We constructed several transgenic T. harzianum strains carrying multiple copies of ech42 and the corresponding gene disruptants. The level of extracellular endochitinase activity when T. harzianum was grown under inducing conditions increased up to 42-fold in multicopy strains as compared with the wild type, whereas gene disruptants exhibited practically no activity. The densities of chitin labeling of Rhizoctonia solani cell walls, after interactions with gene disruptants were not statistically significantly different than the density of chitin labeling after interactions with the wild type. Finally, no major differences in the efficacies of the strains generated as biocontrol agents against R. solani or Sclerotium rolfsii were observed in greenhouse experiments.

Immaculate Conception from the XVIIth century, whose remains are preserved in the local parish of Íllora
(Spain). FTIR spectroscopy was used to determine the origin of the sculpture's primary material, which helps
us to knowthe circulation and commercial routes of ivory during themodern age. Comparative results with a certified
African ivory reference sample indicate the Asian origin of our image. Historically, our results support the
idea that Asian tusk ivory from India and South-East Asia were commonly carved by artisans in the area of
Zhanzhou Port (Fujian province), and consequently by the same artisans when they settled in Manila.
Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine the materials and gilding techniques used in this type of
sculpture. This is a newaspect for Hispano-Philippine ivories, but a recurrent one for medieval ivories. The results
obtained in this study allow us to present the gilding technique used to decorate the Immaculate Conception
image as a water gilding (“guazzo”) over an oil/mordant gilding. Water gilding uses a layer of gesso and a
layer of bole to make the gold leaf adhere, and was traditionally used for wood surfaces, but has also been documented
in the cases of some medieval ivory sculptures.
