Analysis of the Differences Between the Design and Construction of Temporary Houses for Semeru Eruption Disaster in 2021

This study was prepared to determine the difference between design and construction of Temporary ... more This study was prepared to determine the difference between design and construction of Temporary Houses for post-disaster Semeru eruption in 2021. From the design documents and actual construction on the site, there are some changes, and the factors that influence these changes can be seen. The eruption of Semeru at the end of 2021 caused several areas in Lumajang Regency damage and the community had to be relocated to new places that were considered safer and feasible. The accelerated relocation program is accompanied by a Temporary Houses design concept provided by Indonesian Architect Association (IAI) East Java region. However, along the way, there are several adjustments to support postdisaster rehabilitation acceleration programs. The focus of temporary housing is fast, cheap, safe, and can be mass-produced. From this study, factors that influence the design adjustment are Site Condition, Number of Building Units, Material Availability, Human Resources, and Government Policies and Policies. Design adjustments have occurred very often, such as in the construction of common buildings, there are planning documents, known as detailed engineering drawings (DED), then there are adjustments to site conditions, becoming shop drawings (drawings that will be implemented) and finally, there are drawings according to the building being built, as-built drawing.

Consumable shipping containers are often used to make architectural space rated more quickly and efficiently. The advantages of containers are customized, strength, durability, modular, labor, movable, availability, expense, and eco-friendly. The rapid spread of Covid-19 in various regions demands fast, proper, and adequate public health facilities. Containers can be an innovative solution for providing temporary, flexible, efficient, functional, and sustainable public health room facilities. This study describes the uses and advantages of modular container systems for architectural spaces. The result is a schematic design from the design studio of the 4th year architecture student of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, who is trying to improve the function of the use of consumable containers to get more benefits as a temporary architectural space for sustainability and public awareness of health and handling Covid-19.

Therefore humans have an obligation to maintain, preserve and conserve this natural for future generations. Today we see a lot of damage that occurs in the earth caused by human behavior. Islam saw the whole of nature as a place of prayer that must be maintained its cleanliness and purity. Therefore as Muslims we need to preserve nature as we keep our place of prayer. The main objective of this paper is to re-questioning and re-interpreting the idea of sustainability in Islamic Architecture through a critical analysis of first project of 2nd year architecture student of UKM which is the “Temporary Praying Platform”. The discussion itself will be divided into three (3) main parts. The first part will be discussing contemporary issues in Islamic Architecture especially in the design of Mosques while the second part will expand the framework of sustainability in Islamic Architecture. The last part will be analyzing some sample of design submission by 2nd year students of UKM on the temporary praying platform project. It is expected that this paper can start a further discussion on the inner meaning in Islam and how it was implemented in the design of praying spaces in the future.

Moslems are supposed to maintain their cleanliness and purity in every aspect of their lives. In mosques, cleanliness of place is one of the most important aspects to be concerned because it is closely related to worship activities. However, mosques architecture these days are more concern about the aesthetical aspect rather than the cleanliness aspect. In this paper, an evaluation for the islamic cleanliness (thaharah) aspect has been explained for some great mosques, i.e. Jami’ Mosque Malang, an-Nur Mosque Pare Kediri, and A.R. Fachruddin Mosque Muhammadiyah University of Malang. In these great mosques, the cleanliness and the purity problems often appear because of the failure in design, such as the position and the design of toilet, the thaharah system, the visitors’ circulation, the building maintenance, etc. Because of these problems, a design guideline which has a priority in the aspect of cleanliness that can be applied in other mosques’ architectural design is also described in this paper.

One of the new organic principles is to be inspired by nature to be sustainable, healthy, conserving, and diverse. This paper explains how the new organic architecture approach is applied on the building to create the illusion of no boundaries between interior and exterior of the building. Methods of this study is descriptive qualitative methods on how the building applied the new organic architecture principles, adopting content analysis and cross-reference by the Holy Qur'an and Hadiths. Producing environment-friendly building which merges with surrounding nature.
