Wayan Suparta started his career as a teacher of Physics, Electronics, and Computer at the senior high school of SMUK Cor Jesu Malang (1994-1997), Indonesia. The same as a teacher, it was at SMUK Santo Aloysius Bandung (1997 – 2000). He has been an Engineering Lecturer at the College Legenda Group, Malaysia (2000 – 2004) after difficult to find a job in Indonesia. In 2003, he pursues a PhD in Electrical, Electronic, and System Engineering of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and graduated in 2008. After Post Doctoral Fellow (2007-2008), he appointed as a Senior Lecturer (1 July 2008 – 3 April 2012) at the Institute of Space Science, UKM and an Associate Professor from 4 April 2012 to 3 April 2017 at the Space Science Centre (ANGKASA), Institute of Climate Change of UKM. From April 4, 2017 onwards, he was actually a de facto full professor at the Space Science Centre (ANGKASA), IPI, UKM, but due to high-level political intrigue in UKM, he decided to resign on June 16, 2017. His research interests involved GPS Meteorology applications, Aerospace Sciences, Communications (Remote Sensing), Artificial Neural Network applications and Space meteorology. The detailed explanation of this method will highlight its importance in the estimation of ZTD model. Generally, an artificial neural network (ANN) is a system developed for information processing, where it has a similar way with the characteristics of biological neural systems. It was developed based on the human brain, which is capable of processing information, which are complex, nonlinear, and being able to work in parallel, distributed, and local processing and adaptation. ANN is designed to resemble the brain systems such as the construction of architectural structures, learning techniques, and operating techniques. This is the reason that ANN has been widely adopted by scientists because of its accuracy and its ability to develop complex nonlinear models and is used to solve a wide variety of tasks, especially in the field of climate and weather. This section will discuss the capabilities of ANN such as neurons modeling, architecture, and its learning process. 2.1.1 Neuron Modeling In the human brain, there are neurons that are interconnected to one another. We implement a hierarchical Bayesian spatiotemporal (HBST) model to forecast the daily trapped pa... more We implement a hierarchical Bayesian spatiotemporal (HBST) model to forecast the daily trapped particle flux distribution over the South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) region. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)-15 data from 1-30 March 2008 with particle energies as >30 keV (mep0e1) and >300 keV (mep0e3) for electrons and 80-240 keV (mep0p2) and > 6900 keV (mep0p6) for protons were used as the model input to forecast the flux values on 31 March 2008. Data were transformed into logarithmic values and gridded in a 5 • ×5 • longitude and latitude size to fulfill the modelling precondition. A Monte Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) was then performed to solve the HBST Gaussian Process (GP) model by using the Gibbs sampling method. The result for this model was interpolated by a Kriging technique to achieve the whole distribution figure over the SAA region. Statistical results of the root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE), and bias (BIAS) showed a good indicator of the HBST method. The statistical validation also indicated the high variability of particle flux values in the SAA core area. The visual validation showed a powerful combination of HBST-GP model with Kriging interpolation technique. The Kriging also produced a good quality of the distribution map of particle flux over the SAA region as indicated by its small variance value. This suggests that the model can be applied in the development of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO)-Equatorial satellite for monitoring trapped particle radiation hazard.

Approach: To gain insight of the above challenge, analysis of propagation delays in GPS-transmitted signals in the upper and lower atmosphere during transient events associated with intense geomagnetic storms was conducted within the Antarctic polar cap. Results: An increase in Total Electron Content (TEC) indicates an increase in the density of energetic particles in the atmosphere and major changes in the signals would affect the water vapor phase transition in the troposphere. Conclusion/Recommendations: From the correlation between the ionospheric TEC and atmospheric Precipitable Water Vapor (PWV) variations, the Global Electric Circuit (GEC) is identified as a possible physical mechanism for the coupling process.

This paper observes the characteristics of Antarctic precipitable water vapor (PWV) as a climate ... more This paper observes the characteristics of Antarctic precipitable water vapor (PWV) as a climate parameter affected by solar radiation at Scott Base (77.85°S, 166.76°E), Davis (68.58°S, 77.97°E) and Syowa (69.00°S, 39.58°E) using the ground-based GPS and the surface meteorological measurements. As the Sun plays a central role in the hydrological cycle and precipitation, the associations between water vapor and solar radiation have been studied to understand the current global climate change. Analysis of data gathered for the period from 2003 to 2008 showed that the observations between PWV and solar radiation shows strong relationships with correlation coefficients 0.84 for diffuse and 0.79 for global radiation. Based on their strong relationship, PWV data and analysis have done suggests that GPS can be used as a new approach to study the interaction of solarinduced climate change.

Variability of GPS-Based Precipitable Water Vapor over Antarctica: Comparison Between Observations and Predictions

This paper presents observations of precipitable water vapor (PWV) from the Global Positioning Sy... more This paper presents observations of precipitable water vapor (PWV) from the Global Positioning System (GPS) signals and the surface meteorological measurements. Three stations in Antarctica that are Scott Base (SBA), Casey (CAS1), Macquarie Island (MAC1) and Syowa (SYOG) were taken as the location of observation. For analysis, the data gathered from January to December 2004 are analyzed. The PWV content for Antarctic region was obtained below 10 mm (on average) with an accuracy of 1~2 mm and its variability shows a U-profile pattern. Based on this accuracy, the PWV time series for Antarctic region can be predicted through the surface temperature measurements, which is cost effective, continuous and capable of climate monitoring.

Data PWV, TEC dan pengukuran meteorologi permukaan adalah dicerap bermula 12 November sehingga 7 Disember 2007. Hasil pemonitoran menunjukkan bahawa kedua-dua profil kebolehubahan PWV dan TEC memperlihatkan kitaran harian. Purata harian PWV dan TEC adalah tinggi, masing-masing dengan nilai ~42 mm dan ~35 TECU. Perubahan kedua-duanya didapati dipengaruhi aktiviti Matahari.
