The phenomenon of multicultural classrooms has become a prominent feature in 21 st century education arena especially in Malaysia which is rich in cultural diversity. The aim of this paper is to discuss learning environment in multicultural environment especially in vernacular school. In the beginning of the existence of vernacular schools, these schools are meant to cater for its own race. However with the transformation of education policy, student population in vernacular schools are no longer limited to specific races but enrolment from other races is growing rapidly. Existence of other ethnic in a vernacular school has created a new learning environment not only to the origin race of the school but also to the other races and ethnics who enrol in the school. Friction among students becomes an obstacle that reduces the effectiveness in a classroom climate. The existence of diverse population of students from multicultural background under one roof provides barriers in terms of language, apprehension and understanding among each other. Overall from studies, friction can be reduced in a classroom by introducing intercultural sensitivity which is a prominent aspect to acclimatising a multicultural population into a positive classroom climate. Cohesion between students especially in an environment of diverse background becomes a challenge when differences exist between individuals. Issues that lead to differences include language, belief and common goal. From studies, cohesion can be promoted to support academic achievement towards a high cohesiveness enhanced education. Cultural awareness is vital towards promoting and sustaining a socio-cultural and socio-environment integration.

Social skills to be implemented here is communication skills and students; self-confidence. Student participation in co-curricular activities helps to promote students' social skills in order to enter any field for the future prospect to produce skilled human capital in terms of academics and character. Mastering social skills is vital as it gives a good impact in generating positive relationships of a particular student. Active student participation in extra-curricular activities outside the classroom environment allows the students to interact with teachers and friends and to some extent act as a catalyst for social skills development of a student. In addition, through extra-curricular activities, the production of excellent human capital from the physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual aspect can be developed. The second shift of Malaysian Education Blueprint (MEB) clearly emphasises the importance of human capital development. Involvement in leisure activities also leads to the interaction of students with environment, social and learning inside or outside of the classroom in order to produce excellent human capital development. It will also encourage the development of talent, creativity and students potential to the maximum level. Therefore, the direction of this concept paper seeks to unravel the relationship between extra-curricular activities and their impact on social skills because it could act as a catalyst for the development of students social skills. This is due to the rapid development of technology to be a big challenge to an individual in particular and the country in general to compete at a higher level. Mastering of ICT is a necessity for every layer of society that deals in various fields. Therefore, the use of ICT as a whole is one of the policies introduced to uphold state education besides producing quality human capital. In Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025), the government aims to make the application of ICT as a major agenda to strengthen the teaching and learning process. Nevertheless, the paper uses the methods of observation and this reading has identified a number of issues and challenges that are a barrier to ensure the government's intention is reached. Among them are students and staff attitudes towards ICT, lack of skills, provision of ICT infrastructure, ICT applications in education and poverty. Therefore, there are a number of proposals submitted and require the cooperation of various parties for the realization of the development agenda of the country's education and take care of the interests of all communities, including minorities. 1. Introduction The rapid development of information and communication technologies (ICT) have a major impact on the country's education system in Malaysia. ICT is contributing to the transformation of the national education agenda to ensure that the objectives remain relevant and competitive in order to produce human capital that is knowledgeable and have skilled in ICT and be able to compete globally. This is consistent with the national education policy, namely "that the purpose of education is to enable Malaysians to acquire knowledge, skills and values necessary in a competitive and globalized, the impact of the rapid development of science, technology and information" (Education Act, 1996) , Integration and application of ICT in teaching and learning process is one of the main agenda of the government to realize the Malaysian Education Development Plan, 2013-2025 (MOE, 2012). The integration of ICT in education seeks to renew, transform and uplift of education to international level and on par with developed countries. Accordingly, the development of ICT infrastructure and access to the Internet network should be intensified to enable ICT play a more effective and efficient organization at all levels of education. With the ICT infrastructure of complete and balanced, integration of ICT collaborative learning can be enhanced (Gros, B. et al., 2012). Naturally, the development of ICT facilities should be balanced between urban and rural areas in an effort to reduce the digital divide. Pengumpulan data menggunakan satu set soal selidik yang melibatkan maklumat demografi, pengetahuan isi kandungan guru sejarah serta aplikasi pengajaran sejarah berkesan Kajian ini melibatkan 200 orang guru sejarah yang diambil daripada 20 sekolah menengah secara rawak di sekitar Johor Bahru, Johor. Data maklumat yang diperoleh telah diproses dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian " Stastistical Packages For The Social Sciences " (SPSS) versi 22 dan penghuraian berdasarkan peratusan dan min. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap pengetahuan isi kandungan subjek adalah berada pada tahap sederhana. Selain itu, dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan isi kandungan subjek dengan aplikasi pengajaran sejarah berkesan. Kajian ini bertujuan meninjau keupayaan pelajar Tingkatan 4 menjawab soalan Kemahiran Berfikir Ar... more Kajian ini bertujuan meninjau keupayaan pelajar Tingkatan 4 menjawab soalan Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT) mata pelajaran Sejarah dalam peperiksaan Akhir Tahun. Objektif kajian ini ialah menentukan sejauh mana pelajar berupaya menjawab soalan KBAT dengan aras mengaplikasi, menganalisis, menilai dan mencipta. Mengenal pasti perbezaan markah pencapaian bagi empat aras soalan KBAT dan mengenal pasti aras soalan KBAT yang paling sukar dan paling mudah dikuasai pelajar. Kajian dijalankan dengan menganalisis kertas jawapan bagi soalan yang hanya mengandungi unsur KBAT kertas dua (bahagian struktur). Seramai 94 orang pelajar Tingkatan 4 yang menduduki Peperiksaan Akhir Tahun di salah sebuah Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP) di Kuala Lumpur, markah 54 pelajar diambil sebagai sample kajian ini. Analisis deskriptif digunakan bagi menunjukkan peratusan markah setiap soalan dan analisis inferensi digunakan untuk menjawab persoalan kajian. Ujian ANOVA sehala dijalankan, menunjukkan nilai F(df = 3, 212, P<0.05) = 11.4 adalah signifikan. Hipotesis nul ditolak, maka keputusan ujian ANOVA menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan min markah pelajar Tingkatan 4 dalam menjawab empat aras soalan KBAT dalam peperiksaan mata pelajaran sejarah. Beberapa cadangan diberikan bagaimana guru dapat membantu pelajar meningkatkan pencapaian dan keupayaan menjawab soalan KBAT. Kajian ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk guru merancang pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) pada masa akan datang agar dapat menekankan aspek KBAT dalam pelbagai aras soalan.

Pengumpulan data menggunakan satu set soal selidik yang melibatkan maklumat demografi, tahap kekerapan penglibatan, faktor penglibatan, persepsi ketidakterlibatan dan kesan penglibatan pelajar dalam aktiviti sosial dalam komuniti. Seramai 80 orang pelajar yang terlibat dalam kajian ini yang melibatkan 40 orang pelajar dari Malaysia dan 40 orang dari China. Data maklumat yang diperolehi telah diproses dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian " Stastistical Packages For The Social Sciences " (SPSS) versi 21 dan penghuraian berdasarkan peratusan dan min. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan antara trend pelajar Malaysia berbanding pelajar China dari aspek yang dikaji iaitu tahap kekerapan dalam item yang dikaji menunjukkan semua menjawab sekurang-kurangnya satu kali sebulan berbanding pelajar China yang mana ada tiga aktiviti yang mereka tidak terlibat dan pelajar China lebih tertumpu kepada aktiviti sukan dengan tahap kekerapan lebih empat kali sebulan 47.5%. Dari segi faktor penglibatan menunjukkan peratusan pelajar Malaysia lebih tinggi dengan 71.5% berbanding China 66%. Seterusnya persepsi ketidakterlibatan juga menunjukkan pelajar Malaysia peratusan lebih tinggi. Manakala kesan penglibatan menunjukkan sebaliknya dimana hanya sedikit perbezaan peratusan antara Malaysia dan China 80% dan 81.5%. Walaupun terdapat perbezaan tetapi ianya bukanlah perbezaan yang ketara yang ditunjukkan oleh sampel kedua-dua negara. Ini berkemunkinan di pengaruhi oleh dasar kerajaan, gaya hidup serta persaigan yang wujud dalam kalangan populasi di kedua-dua negara. This study aims to look at the relationship between learning styles and attitudes and achievement... more This study aims to look at the relationship between learning styles and attitudes and achievements of students in the subjects of history in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. The study sample consisted of 244 students of a total of 96 male students and 147 female students which involved five schools in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. This study used a questionnaire survey method. This study uses a model of learning styles introduced by Selmes (1987). Complete data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Statistical methods that are being used are frequency, percentage, standard deviation and the mean of the distribution profile, learning styles, and student achievement. While statistical inference used was t-test and Pearson correlation. The findings show that learning styles tend to be practiced by the student is learning style persistent efforts, encouragement, and deep. The results of the t-test showed that there was no significant difference between students' learning styles by gender. In addition, the correlation test results also showed that there was no significant relationship between students' learning styles to student achievement. The implications of this study showed that the students should know the types of learning styles as appropriate to themselves to be used while studying. Teachers also need to adopt appropriate teaching style with students' learning styles and know to attract student interest in exploring the subject taught.
This study aims to look at teaching styles desired by students on their achievement in History su... more This study aims to look at teaching styles desired by students on their achievement in History subject among secondary school students in Johore, Malaysia. This study employed questionnaires to enable researchers to obtain massive data of 200 students comprising of 100 male and female students respectively. Data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics to determine the mean, correlation and t-test of teaching styles on the achievement of History subject. Therefore, the results of this study identified that teaching style with the highest score is the facilitator teaching style compared to other teaching styles. Likewise, the result from t-test also showed that facilitator teaching style is preferred by both male and female students. In this regard, the correlation test reported that there is no significant relationship between teaching styles with examination scores on students' achievement. However, a detailed study has found out that only the expert teaching style has relationship with examination scores on students' achievement.

Soal selidik yang dijalankan terhadap seramai 120 orang responden ini menggunakan kaedah kajian berbentuk tinjauan di sekolah Maktab Rendah Sains MARA di Daerah Tumpat yang dipilih secara sampel bertujuan. Perisian " Statistical Package of Science Social " (SPSS) versi 17 digunakan dalam kajian ini bagi menganalisis data-data yang diperolehi. Laporan daripada hasil kajian akan dianalisis denggan menggunakan bentuk deskriptif dan inferensi iaitu peratusan, min, ujian-t dan korelasi. Hasil daripada kajian yang dijalankan menunjukkan kemahiran generik yang banyak dikuasai oleh guru Sejarah ialah kemahiran dalam aspek pengaplikasian Teknologi dalam P&P. Manakala kemahiran yang sederhana dikuasai ialah kemahiran dalam aspek Budaya dan Perseorangan. Implikasi kajian ini telah memberi sumbangan kepada pedagogi guru dan petanda bahawa guru Sejarah mempunyai tugas dan tanggungjawab yang besar dalam konteks P&P Sejarah bagi meningkatkan pencapaian pelajar. Precisely, this paper is inspecting the relationship between parents support and their involvement towards students' achievement in learning English. Parents support is seen as one of the contributing factors which influencing students achievement in the subject, family is the main institution which plays a vital role in producing a harmonious, educated and an excellent societies. The Theory of Social Learning which becoming the basis of this research, explaining on the behavior of a responsible parent can trigger their involvement in children's learning process. Parents' behavior and involvement in children's education will lead to a reciprocal result when the children show an increment in the term of their academic achievements. This paper is important to allow the parents to examine the importance of their support and involvement in children's education. In addition, this paper also discusses on the challenges in the context of English proficiency among students. This is due to the rapid development of technology to be a big challenge to an individual in particular and the country in general to compete at a higher level. Mastering of ICT is a necessity for every layer of society that deals in various fields. Therefore, the use of ICT as a whole is one of the policies introduced to uphold state education besides producing quality human capital. In Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013-2025), the government aims to make the application of ICT as a major agenda to strengthen the teaching and learning process. Nevertheless, the paper uses the methods of observation and this reading has identified a number of issues and challenges that are a barrier to ensure the government's intention is reached. Among them are students and staff attitudes towards ICT, lack of skills, provision of ICT infrastructure, ICT applications in education and poverty. Therefore, there are a number of proposals submitted and require the cooperation of various parties for the realization of the development agenda of the country's education and take care of the interests of all communities, including minorities. 1. Introduction The rapid development of information and communication technologies (ICT) have a major impact on the country's education system in Malaysia. ICT is contributing to the transformation of the national education agenda to ensure that the objectives remain relevant and competitive in order to produce human capital that is knowledgeable and have skilled in ICT and be able to compete globally. This is consistent with the national education policy, namely "that the purpose of education is to enable Malaysians to acquire knowledge, skills and values necessary in a competitive and globalized, the impact of the rapid development of science, technology and information" (Education Act, 1996) , Integration and application of ICT in teaching and learning process is one of the main agenda of the government to realize the Malaysian Education Development Plan, 2013-2025 (MOE, 2012). The integration of ICT in education seeks to renew, transform and uplift of education to international level and on par with developed countries. Accordingly, the development of ICT infrastructure and access to the Internet network should be intensified to enable ICT play a more effective and efficient organization at all levels of education. With the ICT infrastructure of complete and balanced, integration of ICT collaborative learning can be enhanced (Gros, B. et al., 2012). Naturally, the development of ICT facilities should be balanced between urban and rural areas in an effort to reduce the digital divide. Therefore, the Ministry of Education in the third thrust Education Transformation Plan Rural School Sabah and Sarawak have redouble efforts to improve the development of physical facilities, Internet access and virtual learning (e-learning) to enable teachers and students to make use of ICT in teaching and learning process (KPM , 2013). Pengumpulan data menggunakan satu set soal selidik yang melibatkan maklumat demografi, pengetahuan isi kandungan guru sejarah serta aplikasi pengajaran sejarah berkesan Kajian ini melibatkan 200 orang guru sejarah yang diambil daripada 20 sekolah menengah secara rawak di sekitar Johor Bahru, Johor. Data maklumat yang diperoleh telah diproses dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian " Stastistical Packages For The Social Sciences " (SPSS) versi 22 dan penghuraian berdasarkan peratusan dan min. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa tahap pengetahuan isi kandungan subjek adalah berada pada tahap sederhana. Selain itu, dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan isi kandungan subjek dengan aplikasi pengajaran sejarah berkesan. Kajian ini bertujuan meninjau keupayaan pelajar Tingkatan 4 menjawab soalan Kemahiran Berfikir Ar... more Kajian ini bertujuan meninjau keupayaan pelajar Tingkatan 4 menjawab soalan Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT) mata pelajaran Sejarah dalam peperiksaan Akhir Tahun. Objektif kajian ini ialah menentukan sejauh mana pelajar berupaya menjawab soalan KBAT dengan aras mengaplikasi, menganalisis, menilai dan mencipta. Mengenal pasti perbezaan markah pencapaian bagi empat aras soalan KBAT dan mengenal pasti aras soalan KBAT yang paling sukar dan paling mudah dikuasai pelajar. Kajian dijalankan dengan menganalisis kertas jawapan bagi soalan yang hanya mengandungi unsur KBAT kertas dua (bahagian struktur). Seramai 94 orang pelajar Tingkatan 4 yang menduduki Peperiksaan Akhir Tahun di salah sebuah Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP) di Kuala Lumpur, markah 54 pelajar diambil sebagai sample kajian ini. Analisis deskriptif digunakan bagi menunjukkan peratusan markah setiap soalan dan analisis inferensi digunakan untuk menjawab persoalan kajian. Ujian ANOVA sehala dijalankan, menunjukkan nilai F(df = 3, 212, P<0.05) = 11.4 adalah signifikan. Hipotesis nul ditolak, maka keputusan ujian ANOVA menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan min markah pelajar Tingkatan 4 dalam menjawab empat aras soalan KBAT dalam peperiksaan mata pelajaran sejarah. Beberapa cadangan diberikan bagaimana guru dapat membantu pelajar meningkatkan pencapaian dan keupayaan menjawab soalan KBAT. Kajian ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk guru merancang pengajaran dan pembelajaran (PdP) pada masa akan datang agar dapat menekankan aspek KBAT dalam pelbagai aras soalan.
Kajian ini bertujuan melihat penglibatan pelajar universiti terhadap aktiviti sosial dalam komuni... more Kajian ini bertujuan melihat penglibatan pelajar universiti terhadap aktiviti sosial dalam komuniti pada waktu senggang dengan membuat perbandingan antara pelajar Malaysia dengan China. Pengumpulan data menggunakan satu set soal selidik yang melibatkan maklumat demografi, tahap kekerapan penglibatan, faktor penglibatan, persepsi ketidakterlibatan dan kesan penglibatan pelajar dalam aktiviti sosial dalam komuniti. Seramai 80 orang pelajar yang terlibat dalam kajian ini yang melibatkan 40 orang pelajar dari Malaysia dan 40 orang dari China. Data maklumat yang diperolehi telah diproses dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan perisian " Stastistical Packages For The Social Sciences " (SPSS) versi 21 dan penghuraian berdasarkan peratusan dan min. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan antara trend pelajar Malaysia berbanding pelajar China dari aspek yang dikaji iaitu tahap kekerapan dalam item yang dikaji menunjukkan semua menjawab sekurang-kurangnya satu kali sebulan berbanding pelajar China yang mana ada tiga aktiviti yang mereka tidak terlibat dan pelajar China lebih tertumpu kepada aktiviti sukan dengan tahap kekerapan lebih empat kali sebulan 47.5%. Dari segi faktor penglibatan menunjukkan peratusan pelajar Malaysia lebih tinggi dengan 71.5% berbanding China 66%. Seterusnya persepsi ketidakterlibatan juga menunjukkan pelajar Malaysia peratusan lebih tinggi. Manakala kesan penglibatan menunjukkan sebaliknya dimana hanya sedikit perbezaan peratusan antara Malaysia dan China 80% dan 81.5%. Walaupun terdapat perbezaan tetapi ianya bukanlah perbezaan yang ketara yang ditunjukkan oleh sampel kedua-dua negara. Ini berkemunkinan di pengaruhi oleh dasar kerajaan, gaya hidup serta persaigan yang wujud dalam kalangan populasi di kedua-dua negara. This study aims to look at the relationship between learning styles and attitudes and achievement... more This study aims to look at the relationship between learning styles and attitudes and achievements of students in the subjects of history in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. The study sample consisted of 244 students of a total of 96 male students and 147 female students which involved five schools in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan. This study used a questionnaire survey method. This study uses a model of learning styles introduced by Selmes (1987). Complete data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Statistical methods that are being used are frequency, percentage, standard deviation and the mean of the distribution profile, learning styles, and student achievement. While statistical inference used was t-test and Pearson correlation. The findings show that learning styles tend to be practiced by the student is learning style persistent efforts, encouragement, and deep. The results of the t-test showed that there was no significant difference between students' learning styles by gender. In addition, the correlation test results also showed that there was no significant relationship between students' learning styles to student achievement. The implications of this study showed that the students should know the types of learning styles as appropriate to themselves to be used while studying. Teachers also need to adopt appropriate teaching style with students' learning styles and know to attract student interest in exploring the subject taught.
This study aims to look at teaching styles desired by students on their achievement in History su... more This study aims to look at teaching styles desired by students on their achievement in History subject among secondary school students in Johore, Malaysia. This study employed questionnaires to enable researchers to obtain massive data of 200 students comprising of 100 male and female students respectively. Data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics to determine the mean, correlation and t-test of teaching styles on the achievement of History subject. Therefore, the results of this study identified that teaching style with the highest score is the facilitator teaching style compared to other teaching styles. Likewise, the result from t-test also showed that facilitator teaching style is preferred by both male and female students. In this regard, the correlation test reported that there is no significant relationship between teaching styles with examination scores on students' achievement. However, a detailed study has found out that only the expert teaching style has relationship with examination scores on students' achievement.

Soal selidik yang dijalankan terhadap seramai 120 orang responden ini menggunakan kaedah kajian berbentuk tinjauan di sekolah Maktab Rendah Sains MARA di Daerah Tumpat yang dipilih secara sampel bertujuan. Perisian " Statistical Package of Science Social " (SPSS) versi 17 digunakan dalam kajian ini bagi menganalisis data-data yang diperolehi. Laporan daripada hasil kajian akan dianalisis denggan menggunakan bentuk deskriptif dan inferensi iaitu peratusan, min, ujian-t dan korelasi. Hasil daripada kajian yang dijalankan menunjukkan kemahiran generik yang banyak dikuasai oleh guru Sejarah ialah kemahiran dalam aspek pengaplikasian Teknologi dalam P&P. Manakala kemahiran yang sederhana dikuasai ialah kemahiran dalam aspek Budaya dan Perseorangan. Implikasi kajian ini telah memberi sumbangan kepada pedagogi guru dan petanda bahawa guru Sejarah mempunyai tugas dan tanggungjawab yang besar dalam konteks P&P Sejarah bagi meningkatkan pencapaian pelajar. Kajian ini membincangkan persepsi murid terhadap Amalan Pengajaran Guru Opsyen dan Bukan Opsyen s... more Kajian ini membincangkan persepsi murid terhadap Amalan Pengajaran Guru Opsyen dan Bukan Opsyen serta hubungannya dengan Pencapaian Akademik Mata pelajaran Sejarah. Kajian ini dijalankan di salah sebuah sekolah Menengah di zon Ampang, Selangor melibatkan 122 orang murid Tingkatan Empat, 61 orang murid daripada jumlah tersebut diajar oleh Guru Opsyen Sejarah manakala 61 murid lagi diajar oleh Guru Bukan Opsyen. Objektif kajian ini adalah untuk menentukan tahap pencapaian murid dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah dan tahap Amalan Pengajaran Guru Sejarah yang dominan serta menentukan hubungan antara Amalan Pengajaran Guru Sejarah terhadap pencapaian murid. Kajian ini menggunakan Model Pengajaran Tyler (1949) dan Slavin (1994) dalam membina item dalam borang soal selidik kajian ini. Hasil dapatan kajian ini, Tahap Amalan Pengajaran Guru Sejarah yang paling dominan mempengaruhi pencapaian murid adalah Kebolehan Guru Sejarah itu sendiri dengan nilai min=4.01. Kekuatan hubungan tersebut adalah Positif Sederhana dengan nilai Pekali Korelasi, r=0.37 dan bersamaan 21.3% memberi sumbangan pengaruh terhadap pencapaian murid berdasarkan Amalan Pengajaran Guru Sejarah. Kajian ini juga membuktikan tiada perbezaan yang signifikan terhadap pengajaran guru Opsyen dan bukan Opsyen dalam mempengaruhi pencapaian murid dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah. Oleh itu, implikasi daripada kajian ini menyatakan bahawa guru-guru terutamanya Guru Sejarah perlu sentiasa menggunakan kreativiti serta kebolehan yang ada semaksimum mungkin disamping terus menimba ilmu sebanyak mungkin dalam memperbaiki amalan pengajaran tersebut.

Kajian yang dijalankan menggunakan kaedah Kuasi-Eksperimen. Instrumen kajian ini terdiri daripada soal selidik, ujian pencapaian Sejarah tingkatan Empat (ujian pra dan ujian pos), persediaan mengajar dan protokol temu bual. Analisa data dibuat berdasarkan kepada markah yang diperolehi semasa menjalankan ujian pra, ujian pos dan soal selidik. Sampel kajian terdiri daripada 50 orang pelajar Tingkatan Empat daripada dua buah sekolah menengah di daerah Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan terhadap peningkatan keupayaan dalam mengingat konsep Sejarah dan pencapaian pelajar selepas penggunaan peta I-Think. Selain itu, minat pelajar secara keseluruhannya berada pada tahap yang tinggi. Peta I-Think sememangnya penting dalam meningkatkan keupayaan pedagogi guru dalam mempelbagaikan kemahiran guru abad ke 21 selaras dengan perkembangan teknologi dan era ledakan maklumat pada masa kini. Kata kunci: pedagogi, peta pemikiran, I-Think, pencapaian, minat PENGENALAN Gelombang globalisasi yang cukup mencabar dan getir ini memerlukan rakyat yang patuh dan taat kepada negara. Ia mampu dicerna dan diterapkan melalui pengukuhan pendidikan sejarah. Negara-negara maju seperti United Kingdom, Jerman, Perancis, Amerika Syarikat, Korea dan Jepun telah mewajibkan mata pelajaran Sejarah dalam kurikulum pendidikan kebangsaan negara masing-masing (Mohamad Johdi, 2000). Demi mengekalkan keunggulan dan kedaulatan negara bangsa, negara-negara maju ini amat teliti dengan realiti bukti, kebenaran fakta dan kejituan interpretasi. Negara-negara berkenaan telah berjaya ke persada kegemilangan melalui prinsip sedemikian. Antara matlamat utama dalam pembelajaran dan pemudahcaraan (PdPc) mata pelajaran Sejarah adalah untuk melahirkan insan yang mantap jati diri, setia kepada negara dan bangsa Malaysia. Pemupukan semangat patriotik dalam kalangan generasi muda adalah matlamat utama dalam mata pelajaran Sejarah. Pemerkasaan keperibadian bangsa Malaysia tercinta dapat dipupuk melalui pemahaman dan penghayatan sejarah jatuh bangun negara. Penekanan juga diberikan kepada aspek kemahiran pemikiran, menganalisis dan menilai fakta sejarah secara rasional berteraskan kemahiran pelestarian pemikiran dalam pendidikan sejarah. (Kamarul Afendey & Ishak, 2013) Pengajaran kemahiran berfikir telah diperkenalkan dalam semua mata pelajaran sekolah di Malaysia. Namun begitu, dari segi perlaksanaannya dalam konteks mata pelajaran Sejarah, ia masih kurang diamalkan. Guru misalnya, masih tidak begitu cenderung untuk menekankan aspek membimbing murid menguasai beberapa kemahiran yang sememangnya terdapat dalam kemahiran pemikiran sejarah seperti mengumpul data, meneroka bukti, membuat tafsiran, membuat imaginasi, menganalisis, merumus dan membuat penilaian. Kajian ini berbentuk tinjauan yang menggunakan instrumen soal selidik bagi mendapatkan maklumat mengenai aspek-aspek tersebut dari perspektif murid. Sampel kajian ini melibatkan 107 responden yang terdiri daripada etnik Melayu, Iban, Bidayuh dan Melanau yang berada di tahap dua sekolah rendah. Hasil dapatan mendapati tahap motivasi intrinsik dan ekstrinsik murid Bumiputera di SJKC adalah tinggi. Selain itu, analisis menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan dalam motivasi pembelajaran murid sama ada lelaki dan perempuan. Berdasarkan etnik pula, terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan dicatatkan antara motivasi intrinsik sahaja. Secara keseluruhannya, didapati bahawa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara motivasi pembelajaran dengan pencapaian akademik. Walau bagaimanapun, motivasi belajar murid itu tidak harus dipandang rendah kerana sememangnya telah dibuktikan dapat mempengaruhi niat seseorang itu untuk mencapai kejayaan.

Golongan ini seharusnya didedahkan kepada pelbagai ilmu pengetahun terutama mengenai pengurusan kewangan kerana golongan yang banyak diisytiharkan muflis terdiri daripada kaum muda. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana pengetahuan mahasiswa mengenai literasi kewangan mereka. Selain itu juga, kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan di antara tahap pendidikan dan tahap literasi kewangan. Kajian berbentuk tinjauan ini menggunakan instrumen soal selidik untuk mendapatkan maklumat. Responden kajian adalah terdiri daripada pelajar universiti di Malaysia . Tahap literasi kewangan peribadi terbahagi kepada pegetahuan mengenai simpanan, hutang, pelaburan dan juga perbelanjaan. Hasil dapatan menunjukkan tahap pengetahuan mahasiswa mengenai pengurusan kewangan peribadi adalah pada tahap yang rendah di mana mahasiswa paling kurang pengetahuan tentang pelaburan. Selain itu juga, didapati bahawa semakin tinggi tahap pendidikan seseorang maka semakin tinggi tahap literasi mereka. Oleh itu, untuk mengelakkan mahasiswa daripada gagal menguruskan kewangan peribadi, mahasiswa seharusnya diberi pendedahan berkaitan cara menguruskan kewangan agar mereka tidak mudah tertipu mahupun terjebak dengan mana-mana aktiviti yang menjanjikan pulangan wang yang banyak. Data were collected using questionnaire that includes demografy information, contextual knowledge among history teachers and the application of effective history learning. This survey study involving 200 teachers that were randomly selected from 20 schools in Johor Bahru, Johor. The information of data were process and analyse using " Stastistical Packages For The Social Sciences " (SPSS) version 22 software and were describes based on mean and percentage. The results of the study shows that the level of contextual subject knowledge is at moderate level. Besides that, results also shows that there is a significant relationship between contextual subject knowledge with effective history learning. The implication of the study were to gain the awareness about the importance of contextual subject knowledge among teachers meanwhile to improve the quality of effective history learning. Abstrak Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti hubungan pengetahuan isi kandungan dengan aplikasi pengajaran sejarah yang berkesan. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti kepentingan pengaruh persekitaran keluarga terhadap pembentukan konsep kendiri dalam kalangan pelajar. Kajian ini berbentuk kajian tinjauan dan melibatkan seramai 220 orang pelajar tingkatan empat di enam buah sekolah menengah dalam daerah Serian. Kajian ini menggunakan analisis deskriptif iaitu bagi mendapatkan min dan sisihan piawaian manakala analisis inferensi adalah Ujian-t dan Korelasi Pearson dengan menggunakan perisian Statistikal Package For Social Science (SPSS) versi 22. Hasil dapatan menunjukkan tahap persekitaran keluarga dan konsep kendiri adalah berada pada tahap sederhana manakala dapatan bagi perbezaan persekitaran keluarga dalam membentuk konsep kendiri dalam kalangan pelajar berdasarkan jantina menunjukkan terdapatnya perbezaan. Dari segi hubungan persekitaran keluarga dan konsep kendiri mendapati terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kedua-duanya. Bagi membina konsep kendiri positif dalam kalangan pelajar, persekitaran keluarga yang memfokuskan ibubapa menjadi pemangkin ke arah pembinaan keperibadian yang cemerlang. Para pelajar mampu membuat pilihan, berfikir malah membuat sebarang keputusan berlandaskan keyakinan diri yang terbina atas dasar konsep kendiri. Hasil kajian ini mencadangkan ibubapa menjadi role model kepada anak-anak. Selain itu, peranan pihak sekolah terutamanya guru kaunseling perlu menggunakan pendekatan yang sesuai untuk mendekati pelajar dan menyelami masalah pelajar yang bermasalah. Kajian ini adalah suatu kajian kuantitatif yang menggunakan kaedah tinjauan berbentuk soal selidik untuk mengenalpasti tahap iklim bilik darjah di kalangan pelajar bukan Cina di sekolah jenis kebangsaan Cina di luar bandar Sibu. Sampel kajian merangkumi 152 responden dari pelajar Tahun 4, 5 dan 6 di sekolah vernakular Cina di luar bandar bahagian Sibu. Tahap iklim bilik darjah ditinjau menggunakan soal selidik yang diadaptasi dari My Classroom Inventory yang dibangunkan oleh Fraser (1982), manakala pencapaian akademik pelajar dalam Bahasa Cina diukur menggunakan keputusan sumatif akhir tahun. Kajian rintis menghasilkan Cronbach Alpha bernilai .66 iaitu pada kepercayaan yang tinggi. Data daripada kajian yang ditadbir diproses menggunakan perisian Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Versi 22.0. Analisis deskriptif digunakan untuk mengukur min, sisihan piawai dan kekerapan. Analisis inferensi yang melibatkan analisis ujian-t dan korelasi digunnakan untuk menguji hipotesis kajian. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa tahap kesemua aspek iklim darjah berada pada tahap sederhana. Ujian-t menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbezaan bagi aspek iklim bilik darjah kecuali aspek kepuasan antara jantina pelajar. Hasil kajian juga menunjukkan korelasi yang lemah antara aspek-aspek iklim bilik darjah dan secara keseluruhan dengan pencapaian Bahasa Cina pelajar. Dapatan kajian ini memberi implikasi kepada iklim bilik darjah yang berupaya meningkatkan pencapaian akademik pelajar khususnya pelajar minoriti di dalam satu komuniti bilik darjah. Abstract This purpose of this study was to identify the perception of classroom climate of non-Chinese students who are enrolled in vernacular Chinese schools in outskirts of Sarawak and the relationship of classroom climate towards academic performance of students in Chinese language. This study was a quantitative research which utilizes survey form in the form of questionnaire to determine the perception of level of classroom climate from the view of non-Chinese students studying national-type Chinese schools in outskirts of Sibu. The sample consisted of 152 respondents who are Year 4, 5 and 6 students in national-type Chinese schools. The level of classroom climate reviewed in this study was measured through a modified questionnaire of My Classroom Inventory developed by Fraser (1982) and students' academic performance is measured using results of Chinese Language in Semester 2. A pilot study is conducted to determine the validity and reliability of the items in the instrument executed. A value of .66 was obtained for the Alpha Cronbach value which indicated a high reliability for the items in the instrument. Data obtained from the study was processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 22.0. Kajian ini adalah untuk melihat hubungan di antara pencapaian Bahasa Inggeris pelajar dengan pemb... more Kajian ini adalah untuk melihat hubungan di antara pencapaian Bahasa Inggeris pelajar dengan pembolehubah-pembolehubah seperti sokongan ibubapa dan penglibatan ibubapa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris pelajar. Kajian ini adalah berbentuk kuantitatif yang melibatkan analisis deskriptif dan inferensi. Sokongan ibu bapa yang dikaji adalah merujuk kepada Model Enam Penglibatan Epstein 1995. Manakala pencapaian Bahasa Inggeris merujuk kepada keputusan Bahasa Inggeris dalam Ujian Penialaian Sekolah Rendah 2016. Sampel kajian ini terdiri daripada 220 orang pelajar tahun enam dari enam buah sekolah rendah di Sri Aman, Sarawak. Data dikumpul menggunakan soalan soal selidik yang diadaptasi daripada Children's Report of Parent Behavior Inventory. Hasil analisis mendapati terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan sokongan ibu bapa terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris pelajar di rumah dalam kalangan pelajar mengikut jantina dengan nilai F = 2.147 dan nilai sig.0.008 (p<0.05). Selain itu didapati tidak terdapat perbezaan min yang signifikan sokongan ibu bapa terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris pelajar berdasarkan etnik dengan nilai F = 0.167 dan nilai p = 0.919 (p>0,05). Analisis korelasi menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara sokongan ibu bapa terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris dengan pencapaian Bahasa Inggeris pelajar di mana r = 0.205 dan p<0.05. Secara keseluruhan, kajian mendapati sokongan ibu bapa terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggeris pelajar adalah penting untuk memastikan pelajar memperolehi keputusan yang baik dalam mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggeris. Laporan Jawatankuasa Kabinet (1979) telah menyatakan bahawa semua pelajar hendaklah digalakkan supaya mengambil bahagian yang lebih aktif dalam aktiviti kokurikulum. Walaubagaimanapun aktiviti ini dipandang sepi oleh kebanyakkan mereka dengan beranggapan aktiviti korikulum hanya membazir masa dan tenaga. Kajian ini cuba mendalami sejauh mana kokurikulum memberi kesan yang signifikan terhadap kemahiran sosial dengan mengunakan kaedah tinjauan daripada instrumen yang dibina sendiri iaitu soal selidik. Penglibatan aktiviti masa senggang yang dilihat adalah jenis aktiviti masa senggang aktif dan pasif. Manakala kesejahteraan sosial individu yang ditinjau hanya melibatkan aspek komunikasi, tanggungjawab dan sumbangan. Selain itu, perkara yang ditinjau adaah faktor pendorong kepada penglibatan pelajar dengan aktiviti masa senggang. Kajian ini juga melihat jenis aktiviti masa senggang yang sering pelajar libatkan diri mereka sendiri. Kajian ini berbentuk tinjauan yang menggunakan instrument soal selidik bagi mendapatkan maklumat mengenai penglibatan aktiviti masa senggang pelajar dengan kesejahteraan sosial individu pelajar. Sampel kajian ini melibatkan seramai 200 orang responden yang terdiri daripada pelajar tingkatan empat sekolah menengah di sekitar Daerah Kapit, Sarawak. Soal selidik dibina berdasarkan adaptasi dari kajian-kajian lepas. Hasil kajian rintis menunjukkan keseluruhan konstruk berdasarkan analisis Cronbach Alpha berada pada tahap kebolehpercayaan iaitu 0.645. Dapatan data diperolehi dengan menggunakan SPSS 21. Analisis deskriptif iaitu kekerapan, peratus, min dan sisihan piawai manakala analisis inferens menggunakan kolerasi pekali Pearson. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan pelajar lebih melibatkan diri dengan aktiviti masa senggang pasif dengan kekerapan dan peratus yang lebih tinggi berbanding aktiviti masa senggang aktif. Selain itu, faktor pendorong penglibatan aktiviti masa senggang pelajar adalah faktor minat diikuti faktor ibu bapa, faktor rakan serta faktor kemudahan. Kolerasi pekali Pearson pula menunjukkan wujudnya hubungan yang signifikan antara penglibatan aktiviti masa senggang dengan kesejahteraan sosial individu. Implikasi kajian menunjukkan penglibatan aktiviti masa senggang pelajar perlu dititikberat oleh semua pihak dalam mewujudkan kesejahteraan sosial individu pelajar yang holistik. Pe... more Pendidikan sudah diterima sebagai komponen penting dalam membina perpaduan kaum di negara ini. Persoalannya, sejak merdeka 58 tahun lalu, bagaimanakah pendidikan untuk membina perpaduan dapat diukur samada telah berjaya atau tidak? Bagi menjawab persoalan tersebut kertas ini cuba mengemukakan tiga objektif utama yang perlu diperjelaskan. Pertama, kertas ini cuba meneliti sejauhmanakah etnisiti di dalam aliran sisitem pendidikan vernakular telah mempengaruhi pembentukan ‘nation of intent’ di negara ini. Kedua, kertas ini cuba meneliti sejauhmanakah etnisiti telah mempengaruhi perdebatan berkaitan dasar dasar utama pendidikan negara. Ketiga, kertas ini cuba mengenalpasti sejauhmanakah penerimaan pelbagai etnik terhadap idea pembentukan sebuah sistem pendidikan kebangsaan di negara ini.

Sehubungan dengan itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap kemahiran kognitif ICT dan hubungannya dengan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi (KBAT) dalam kalangan pelajar Iban. Seramai 180 orang pelajar tingakatan empat di dua buah sekolah di Sibu, Sarawak telah dipilih secara rawak sebagai responden untuk menjawab soal selidik kajian ini. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan tahap kemahiran kognitif ICT pelajar berada pada tahap sederhana. Hasil analisis Ujian-t menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan kemahiran kognitif ICT berdasarkan jantina. Namun, terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan kemahiran kognitif ICT antara pelajar bandar dan pelajar luar bandar. Sementara itu, keputusan analisis Kolerasi Pearson menunjukkan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara kemahiran kognitif ICT dengan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi (KBAT). Ini menunjukkan bahawa penguasaan kemahiran kognitif ICT berupaya meningkatkan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi pelajar. Justeru, segala isu dan cabaran perlulah diuruskan dengan lebih efektif dan sistematik oleh individu atau pihak yang berkepentingan bagi memastikan pelajar tanpa mengira latar belakang sosial, ekonomi, budaya dan geografi menguasai kemahiran kognitif ICT dan juga kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi. ABSTRACT The learning environment of the 21st century is more challenging and requires all students regardless of race, religion and different cultures mastering ICT skills to enable them to have a critical mind. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the level of cognitive skills of ICT and its relationship with higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) among students Iban. A total of 180 form four students in two schools in Sibu, Sarawak were randomly selected as respondents to answer the questionnaires. The findings showed that the level of cognitive skills ICT among the students were at moderate. The results of t-test analysis showed no significant differences in ICT cognitive skills by gender. However, there were significant differences in ICT cognitive skills between city students and rural students. Meanwhile, the results of Pearson Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between cognitive skills ICT with higher order thinking skills (HOTS). This showed that mastery of ICT cognitive skills will be able to improve students' higher order thinking skills. Thus, the issues and challenges need to be managed more effectively and systematically by individuals or stakeholders to ensure students from differance social background, economic, cultural and geographical will be able to master ICT cognitive skills and also higher order thinking skills.

The amount of sample chosen is 59 History teachers from secondary schools which consists of trained teachers without taking into account their specialisation. As a whole, the research findings show that respondents have a high readiness level in implementing their teaching and learning process with the help of i-Think mind maps in secondary schools. The findings also show that there is a difference in teacher readiness between history teacher and non-history teacher and between those that went to courses and those who did not.
