In this paper, we use the oldest preserved map of the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, created in 1588 by the engineer Leonardo Torriani, as the basis for its 3D virtual recreation. This map shows the first non-fortified Spanish colonial city whose plan provided a model for the colonial cities in America. These distinct features made San Cristóbal de La Laguna a UNESCO world heritage site. In our work, we present a map-based workflow for 3D reconstruction that balances fidelity to the original map with the integration of other historical sources and the current status of the city. This leads to the development of several 3D models from those distinct sources whose integration provides the 3D reconstruction of the city in the 16th century. The results of this project can be applied to other similar maps that were created in...

Modelado orgánico: Zbrush, Blender, Meshmixer, MudBox, Sculptris... Modelado 3D animación: Maya, 3DStudio, Cinema 4D, Blender... CAD 2D/3D tradicionales: AutoCad, Drafstsight, Rhinoceros, Microstation... Modelado 3D conceptual: SketchUp, TinkerCad, Formit, Infraworks... Modelado sólido paramétrico: Catia, Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, Inventor, Fusion 360, OnShape, FreeCad... Modelado 3D BIM: Revit, ArchiCad...

It is viable to replace the wax in the processes of the artistic foundry with 3D printed objects. In this technique, the digital models are manufactured with resin using a low-cost 3D FDM printer in polylactic acid (PLA). This material is used, because its properties make it a viable substitute to wax, within the processes of artistic casting with the technique of lost wax through Ceramic Shell casting. This technique consists of covering a sculpture of wax or in this case PLA with several layers of thermoresistant material. This material is heated to melt the PLA, obtaining an empty mold that is later filled with the molten metal. It is verified that the PLA models reduce the cost and time compared with the hand m...

The craft techniques and associated business models tend to disappear under the pressure of the appearance of mass-produced products that compete in all niche markets, including those traditionally reserved for the work of art. The surplus value derived from the prestige of the author, the exclusivity of the product or the mastery of the artist, do not seem to be sufficient reasons to preserve this productive model. The adoption of open source digital manufacturing technologies in small art workshops can favor their permanence by assuming great advantages such as easy accessibility, low cost and free modification, adapting to specific needs of each workshop. Three-dimensional models allow for visualization of the work from all angles. The result can be seen in three-dimensional visors, in virtual reality, or by means of 3D-printed replicas. However, the recipient continues to be, as is also the case in books and videos, a passive spectator of the cultural patrimony. In order to promote participation and to increase interest in local heritage, alternative methods for promotion of the digital patrimony have been developed. In this article, two means of publicizing local (less-known) heritage in an active manner have been described.

This project includes, as a generic competence, the ability to generate new ideas (creativity) and in Spanish universities is listed in the White Papers of Engineering Degrees. The importance of creativity in engineering education is an increasingly important aspect in many countries although not yet a widespread approach. During 2013 2014 course, at the University of La Laguna, a creative workshop called Stella 3D has been tested with engineers. This workshop is based in the paintings of Frank Stella and uses the SketchUp software for it resolution. In this article it is detailed a new experiment conducted during 2014 2015 using the same workshop (Stella 3D), but adding the possibility that students solve the exercises on a digital tablet using Autodesk Formit.

Modelado orgánico: Zbrush, Blender, Meshmixer, MudBox, Sculptris... Modelado 3D animación: Maya, 3DStudio, Cinema 4D, Blender... CAD 2D/3D tradicionales: AutoCad, Drafstsight, Rhinoceros, Microstation... Modelado 3D conceptual: SketchUp, TinkerCad, Formit, Infraworks... Modelado sólido paramétrico: Catia, Pro-Engineer, Solidworks, Inventor, Fusion 360, OnShape, FreeCad... Modelado 3D BIM: Revit, ArchiCad...
