In 2018 The Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the J. Willard Marriott Library embarked on a journey of intentional collaboration. Energized by "Landscape, Land Art, and the American West," the collaboration seeks to improve access to and enhance the value of their collections for scholars and creatives at the University of Utah, throughout the region, and around the world. 

The UMFA has joined the worldwide effort by museums to determine whether there are any European works of art in its collection that were illegally taken from their owners and not returned.

The UMFA’s collections team recently wrapped up a three-year project to assess, document, and treat metal objects in urgent need of attention.
