This article proposes to discuss and to problematize the formation of gender relations, in a Gyps... more This article proposes to discuss and to problematize the formation of gender relations, in a Gypsy community living in a low-income housing neighborhood on the outskirts of Oporto, in the north of Portugal. The data collected using an ethnological approach in the course of a two-years fieldwork, reveal the power relationships between the sexes and the gendered exercise of citizenship that are experienced in specific socio-geographic-cultural contexts, i.e. in the family and in the community. In each of these contexts, gender relations combine a form of subordinating subordination with of form of subordinate domination. These forms of domination are captured through their structural determinants, as well as through the actions and the subjectivities of the various agents who hold a dual status of citizens and of members of a specific socio-cultural group.
No sentido de identificar praticas de e-learning no Instituto de Educacao (IE) da Universidade do... more No sentido de identificar praticas de e-learning no Instituto de Educacao (IE) da Universidade do Minho (UM) foi realizado um estudo exploratorio que envolveu todos os docentes em exercicio de funcoes no ano lectivo de 2009/2010. Para o efeito foi concebido o questionario “Praticas, percepcoes e necessidades de formacao dos docentes do IE relativamente a Educacao a Distância e e-learning” que, apos um processo da validacao de conteudo e de forma, foi enviado em formato electronico a todos os docentes do IE. Neste texto apresentamos as dimensoes constituintes do instrumento concebido para a recolha de dados, caracterizamos a amostra e apresentamos parte dos dados recolhidos que possibilitaram a caracterizacao das praticas de utilizacao da plataforma Blackboard pelos docentes do IE, bem como as razoes que os levam a implementar (ou nao) praticas de e-learning na sua actividade docente. The Roma population has been the most discriminated against throughout centuries of Portuguese so... more The Roma population has been the most discriminated against throughout centuries of Portuguese society and have been victims of a ‘differential logic of racism’ that segregates them to the borderlines of society. In 2011 the EC adopted an EU Framework for Roma/Gypsies/Traveller Integration and invited member states to submit national strategies in four areas: housing, employment, education and healthcare. In Portugal, the National Strategy for Integration of Roma Communities, approved by the Council of Ministers in March 2013 encompasses those four areas and a fifth axis, under which priorities in areas such as mediation, recognition of Roma culture, anti-discrimination and gender equality were also included. The present article has the aim of reflecting on the results of an on-the-ground research (of a q... more The present article has the aim of reflecting on the results of an on-the-ground research (of a qualitative character) udeveloped in a Gypsy community in what the forms and processes of family socialization and education of children is concerned, in relation of the structuring of their primary habitus. The existence, in these families, of a valorization of certain kind of values and norms of behaviour is given importance. These values and norms, already realized in diverse studies, are attributable to forms and processes of family education that derive from the belonging to favoured classes. Taking into consideration that the families studied fit in the so-called disfavoured social classes, we defend that the family education that is realized in these families derives from an overlapping of an ethnic belonging over a class belonging, being simultaneously at the origin of a certain security for action and the maintenance of certain cultural characteristics that define the lifestyles ...
