Nevertheless, they tend to only focus over formal and stylistic criteria of the motifs, important as they provide chronologies for cave art. This article proposes a multiple approach to a sample of 25 engraved plaques of the Foz do Medal archaeological site, where horses and aurochs were depicted, in order to construct a preliminary model able to guide the future analysis of the whole collection composed of more than 1500 fragments. On the one hand, relevant archaeological data was collected and systematized into a database that can be subjected to statistical analysis, for which we develop different variables and their respective attributes. On the other hand, laboratory techniques of analysis and examination of materials were applied, valuing the motifs details, their potential surface treatment by fire or pigments ornamentation, as well as the identification of raw materials and their origins.

This compact guide offers twenty guidelines to align the efforts of data producers, data archivists and data users in humanities and social sciences to make research data as reusable as possible based upon the FAIR Principles. Each guideline has recommendations for both researchers and archives as it is recognised that different priorities may apply to each case. The guidelines result from the work of over fifty PARTHENOS, ARIADNEplus and SEADDA project members. They were responsible for investigating commonalities in the implementation of policies and strategies for research data management and used results from desk research, questionnaires and interviews with selected experts to gather around one hundred current data management policies (including guides for preferred formats, data review policies and best practices, both formal as well as tacit). The study of landscape is a fundamental step in the structural process of interpreting the life o... more The study of landscape is a fundamental step in the structural process of interpreting the life of past communities. The territory was the stage of diverse and complex dynamics that occurred at several levels such as political, economic, social and symbolic and left their imprint on the landscape. We present the process of deconstructing the landscape using geospatial tools through a database 2ArchIS where we could input data from research work and combine it with ArcGIS. This study is based on bibliographic data and the information available in the Portuguese Portal of Archaeology concerning site location, internal organization, architecture and material culture, and the data obtained by archaeological survey and geospatial analysis. We delimited the territory through the elements that act as natural barriers such as river and mountain ranges forming a territorial unit between the rivers Leça and Ave integrating seventeen Iron Age hillforts with roman occupation. Within this territorial unit we defined two micro units one in the interior and one in the coastline that we were able to study individually applying different sets of analysis, based on locational factors as altitude, soil aptitude, accessibility, mobility and visibility so that in the next step we could study this area at a macro level articulating this data at both scales with archaeological information of the sites. This process allowed us to build an interpretative model of the relations inter-sites, between sites and the territory and between sites and land and river pathways, that is, on a semi-micro and macro spatial scale.
