This paper analyzes the most recent data on archaeological glass finds from Siponto (Manfredonia)... more This paper analyzes the most recent data on archaeological glass finds from Siponto (Manfredonia), abandoned medieval port town of Puglia, and updates those already presented at the XVth Giornate Nazionali di Studio sul Vetro AIHV in Cosenza. Through the analysis of the technological and functional features, in association with the context type of provenance, glass vessels take the value of a socio-economic indicator.

Two main distinct grave groups were identified (KM 58 and KM 73-75/KM 83). The first one, and best preserved graves group, is located on the most external exposures of the metamorphic formation (Jamma Foothill – KM58) and lies on a small outcrop surrounded by a large and almost dried wadi oriented SW-NE. The choice for the construction of these graves is rather homogeneous, since most of them are located on the slopes and the basal plateau of an old fluvial terrace modeled by the erosional activities of the main wadi and by its secondary branches. Only two graves (G12-G13), which yielded some of most elaborate burial goods, are located on the top of it, in a prominent position. The second group (Wadi Banif – KM73-75/ Wadi Al Haimaly – KM83), mostly characterized by violated tombs, is located close to Wadi Banif and lies on an old series of fluvial terraces close to the present-day wadi bed. These graves show a lesser degree of grave clustering since they are rather disperse along the flat morphology of the terraces. The archaeological rescue excavation carried out in the first months of 2016, along the Package 2 of the new Batinah Expressway in the Sultanate of Oman, led to recovery 53 archaeological evidences of which 31 funerary structures. Preliminary analysis of the architectural, stratigraphic and anthropological evidences allowed a first in-depth description of the structures typologies, their usage, restoration, reuse and pillage activities, as well as of the rituals and the funerary practices in these area from Late Bronze Age to the 4th century CE, according to the findings recovered from the graves.
