Between 2018 and 2022, I was PhD candidate in History - Near Eastern Archaeology at the University of Pavia. Since 2016, I am member of the Turco-Italian Expedition at Karkemish. Since 2019, I am member of the Iraqi-Italian Archaeological Expedition at East Nineveh. Also, I participated in the QADIS survey project (2016-2018).

In 1913, C. L. Woolley, along with T. E. Lawrence, dug at the Iron Age Karkemish necropolis of Yunus, in south-east Turkey. Although the general area is known, the exact location of the graves found by Woolley is currently unsure because a topographic record of their excavations was not produced. Since 2011, the Turco-Italian Archaeological Expedition at Karkemish resumed excavations at Yunus as well. In addition to these new excavation activities, the original documentation of the 1913 excavations has also been carefully examined: in particular, a hand-written notebook by Woolley, presently kept in the Middle East Department of the British Museum, has been digitized including all its annotations and drawings: the detailed study and comparison of such information with the Yunus Iron Age graves report published by Woolley in 1939 allowed us to recover additional unpublished data about the cemetery, setting it in parallel with recent excavation results.

the state-of-art in the field of landscape archaeology highlighting models, challenges and needs. A detailed analysis of the preliminary sequence of the pottery assemblages, as
defined during our fiedlwork, from the later prehistory until the Ottoman period follows. We then proceed to discuss the research methodology and provide some glimpses into the development of settlement patterns and of urban layouts, before concluding with an assessment on the endangered archaeological heritage of the region.
