However, its first theorizations were proposed in the aftermath of World War I, and the recently founded United Nations developed the first editorial project at the end of the Second World War. This article shortly analyzes the origins of the world history theories and the first attempts, in America and in Europe, to synthesize the history of the planet in one text.

The aim of this article is to analyze the relation established between local authorities and «informal groups», looking to identify material causes and political-strategic reasons that favoured the development and, moreover, trying to recognize brief and long term effects in the Saint-Domingue economic and social structures evolution.

There are a lot of sources relating on that liaison, especially in notary’s registers and administrative, governmental and military correspondence, but only a few from piratical side. Analyzing letters coming from Saint-Domingue, it is possible to discover evidences of this political cooperation: governmental clemencies and diplomatic protection from French administration, economical and military support from freebooters. These are the signs of a relationship created by the colonial communities, that lasted until the economical evolution of Saint-Domingue changed the bases of the society.
