Lorenzo Ciapetti
Regional economist and co-founder of a innovation and capacity building development center in Italy (Antares Research), Lorenzo has an expertise in international project management, applied economics and policy analysis in the fields of regional and urban innovation. He is an international expert in value chain development with a focus on agrifood skill development and tech transfer. He is the author of a book on local development (Lo sviluppo locale, published by Il Mulino, 2010), a book on the Fourth Industrial revolution (Una Rivoluzione discreta, Il Mulino, 2021) and more recently on skills development (Il posto delle competenze, Edizioni lavoro, 2023). He is the author of several scientific articles on local economic development, Industrial policy and regional innovation.
He has designed and coordinated several studies on regional development, innovation, capacity building and vocational training strategies and advised public and private entities on tech-transfer programs.
From 2020 he has been Resident Advisor and then Team leader for the project "Vet Through Innovation" promoted by the Italian Cooperation and the Albanian Government and aimed to provide Technical Assistance to the Vocational and Education Training system in Albania. From 2022 to 2023 supervised and coordinated a special project to guarantee tech transfer for the development of the olive oil value chain in Albania.
He has been coordinator and presently business development specialist of a tech-transfer and liaison service with the business sector on behalf of the Region Emilia-Romagna and the University of Bologna within the Emilia-Romagna High Technology Network.
He has been bember of the Italian Standing Group for Regional Studies of the Italian Society of Public Policy and in this role he has coordinated the research activities concerning regional innovation policies.
As "pro bono" activities, he is President of the Steering Committe of Fondazione Hub del Territorio Emilia-Romagna, he sits in the Scientific Committee of IAL CISL Emilia-Romagna and in the Board of Centro Studi Leonardo Melandri.
Lorenzo has been a lecturer on economics and local economic development at the University of Bologna, Italy and he has been a visiting lecturer on "complex organizations for local development" at the Masters' School of Local development at the University of Piemonte Orientale. He is Senior Research Associate at the Transport Reseach Lab of Roma Tre University.
Lorenzo’s educational background is multidisciplinary and includes a BA degree in Foreign Languages (with a major in Russian studies) from the University of Trieste, Italy, a Diploma in International Studies and economics from the School of Advanced International Studies of the Johns Hopkins University (awarded Bologna Center Fellowship) an advanced specialisation in Development Policy (University of Ferrara) and Urban policy (International Urban Fellow, Johns Hopkins University, awarded Compagnia San Paolo Fellowship). He has been an International Urban Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies at Johns Hopkins University, USA.
