In teaching/learning processes we live out experiences which, through identity negotiation, facilitate socialization. The identity and social value of interaction experienced in the teaching/learning reality is not limited just to the class-room environment, nor to the institutional relationships, but is linked to the use of teaching materials, as well as tools for the evaluation of learning. We could then assert that everything concerning the act of teaching can be considered as an experience, which is significant because it can be told. With this perspective, following the actional approach of languageculture teaching/learning, the experimental version of a linguistic test for beginners (CEFR A1 level) will be presented. This test puts the following principles into practice: not a test with items of disconnected content, but a narrative (the test) divided into episodes (the items). The candidate is called on to answer, while playing the part of a character experiencing his first days in Italy, in Bologna. Consequently, the focus of the relationship among the interagents (the institution which produces the test, and the candidate, the student who takes the test) progresses from the evaluation of the linguistic performance to the presentation of institutional identity and its surroundings. Additionally, the construction of an empathetic relationship with the candidates will help them address and resolve likely everyday situations in and around Bologna. This will also stimulate the development of their imaginary of the foreign country. Keywords: Testing, Italian L2, Experience, Identity, Narration.

In this communicative process, identity is negotiated and constructed by many interactional strategies, among which narratives can be found. Hence, I will answer to the questions whether within the University, an institutional narrative which exemplifies the institutional interactional identities can be found and how it would be featured. The analysis will make explicit the actors' identity perceptions that the narrative embodies. Otherwise stated, I will describe how actors' identities are shaped by interactions through which the participants collectively construct a counter-structure institutional narrative.

In language/culture didactics theory, the notion of linguistic input - a positivist/structuralistic framework - excluded the subject; in the communicative approach, the learner’s centrality has assigned importance only to one of the subjects involved in the didactic event. I shall try to demonstrate that centrality should be assigned to interaction. In assigning centrality to interaction, subjects (teacher/class/learner as well as institution, which directly or indirectly have a role in the interaction), their relation, context, situation, aim, content and modality of their communication will acquire relevance.

According to the Common European Framework (2000), the approach to Foreign and Second Language (FL/SL) teaching should be action-oriented, in order to educate learners in their role as social agent/actor. Nonetheless, the FL/SL class experience does not always reflect this need and teaching approaches experienced in the class fail to create the social environment in which language learners can express themselves as social actors in a pluricultural environment (Puren, 2010). This lecture presents preliminary results and considerations resulting from a study on the development of SL tasks for the enhancement of motivation and intercultural awareness of students of Italian as a second language at the University of Bologna. The students’ competence level in the SL is A2 or B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The SL tasks in the study are designed as case studies, follow a task-based-learning approach and are underpinned by recent research on identity and identity co-construction through interaction. These case studies have been specifically designed in order to prompt social, anthropological, sociolinguistic, and cultural reflection. From time to time, and in line with the learners’ level of competence in the SL, a selection of case studies has been assigned with the aim to productively allow learners to become aware of their social role. Further, the learners’ planning and implementation of the case study has been expected to enhance their motivation and to foster intercultural dialogue in and outside the class, thus promoting intercultural competence. In order to illustrate how the design of the case studies may help motivation and success, two examples of case studies will be presented. Learner-produced material will be presented and analysed with reference to the CEFR - Companion Volume issued in February 2018.
