E ţara plină de ţări. Această expresie bine cunoscută intetizează bogăţia culturală a României şi evidenţiază evoluţia particulară a unor zone, in anumite contexte naturale şi istorice. “Ţinutul Buzăului” se află într-un spaţiu de confluenţă, atât a unor zone naturale distincte, cât şi a unor provincii cu evoluţii istorice diferite. Astfel, în timp, el a dobândit trăsături comune ariilor de influenţă, dar şi specificitatea rezultată din interferenţă.
Geoparcul “Ţinutul Buzăului” este un spaţiu deschis pentru toţi cei ce doresc să participe la renaşterea unor comunităţi,
este loc de întâlnire a tuturor celor ce se simt ataşaţi de valorile tradiţionale şi îi sunt locuitori reali sau virtuali.

Ghidul este adresat celor interesaţi de un turism inteligent, educativ, care respectă natura şi cultura locală, doritori să guste rafinamentul unei vieţi tradiţionale rurale dar şi să participe la bunăstarea comunităţii gazdă. Ghidul este dedicat comunei Sântamaria Orlea şi Geoparcului Dinozaurilor Tara Hategului si nu are pretenţia de a epuiza informaţiile,
ci doar de a stârni interesul.

The Hateg Coutry is endowed with a range of sites of natural, archeological, historical and cultural relevance. Promoting the protection and sustainable development the Hateg Country Dinosaurs Geopark contributes to highlight the potential for interaction between socio-economic, development and conservation of natural environment. It is integrating research, education, professional training, resource management within the frame of local, national and international partnership.

Cursul Descoperirea Naturii îşi
propune ca obiectiv major familiarizarea
elevilor cu resursele şi patrimoniul specific.
Elevii au posibilitatea să conştientizeze
particularităţile şi valorile locale, precum şi
modul în care pot contribui şi acţiona,
individual sau în grup, pentru conservarea
ariilor protejate din zonă.
Pachetul educaţional Descoperirea Naturii poate fi folosit ca suport educational sau poate fi introdus in
curriculumul la decizia şcolii pentru aria curriculară Matematică şi ştiinţe ale naturii. Este dedicat elevilor clasei a VI-a şi beneficiază de un buget de timp de 1oră / săptămână.

Geodiversitatea unui teritoriu,
reprezentată în principal prin tipurile
de roci, resursele minerale, sol şi
caracteristicile morfologice ale reliefului,
a jucat un rol important în dezvoltarea
socială şi economică a comunitatilor
umane tradiţionale. De la această
interacţiune continuă dintre om şi
materie, de la ceea ce oamenii şi-au
făurit din materialele extrase din subsol
s-au născut meşteşugurile, cultura şi
măiestria, s-a construit specificul locului.
Specificul locului este ca o marcă uşor
de identificat. Oare vinul de Bordeaux şi
cel de Murfatlar se aseamănă? A fabrica
porţelan sau cărămizi este acelaşi lucru?
Masivul Central Francez, Alpii, Carpaţii
au ei o geologie comună?

The continuous and cooperative work of specialists and enthusiasts from universities, research institutions and non-governmental bodies has for more than 60 years allowed identification and formal recognition of protected areas for 200 geological sites and for more than 250 of geomorphological, speleological and landscape areas. 25 of these are considered to be of international importance and to characterize the geological heritage of Romania.

Although the science of palaeontology is not only of extreme importance for the progress of earth sciences, but it can also send us in fantastic voyages into the past of the planet, the interest of the general public in the past history of life on Earth is very low. This is due to individual, rather than coordinated efforts to promote palaeontology, inappropriate use of media and inadequate means of communicating palaeontology
to the media, as well as to the lack of a joint front of palaeontologists that would enable a unitary public
perception of this science. Studies related to the promotion of geosciences show the necessity to adapt the interpretation of geological and palaeontological facts to the personal experience of the public and to challenge the public to discover the connection between the lost worlds and the present world, by integrating the message in a social-economic context. Such an approach is proposed by geoparks, where the geologic
information enables to construct three temporal dimensions for the same territory: past, present and future.
This way, the public is informed on the practical role of rocks and fossils in direct relation to modern issues like climate change and human impact. Therefore, the geoparks represent strong territories for interdisciplinary research, where palaeontology, education, collaboration with universities and museums, social-economic development and geotourism represent an effective means for geosciences promotion on a global scale.

Rapid development of geopark concept and positive results of existing geoparks have generated in Romania both the official recognition of geopark as distinctive protected area and the increase of interests of new territories to develop geoparks. Based on a local initiative and a grass root effort a new geopark project has been launched in Romania: The Buzău Land Geopark. The Buzău Land Geopark. Located in the South-eastern part of Romania (Fig. 1), the territory covers about 1100 sq kilometers, comprises 18 mayoralties and a population of 45000 inhabitants. Unique geological sites like: mud volcanoes, amber deposits, salt caves
and oil springs are present. Sedimentary rocks folded and overthrusted are depicting a geological history covering more than 70 million years. The paper is presenting the main steps taken so far in building the new geopark.

Geoconservation evolved very rapidly in the last decade and now its basic concepts, structure, tools and activities are well defined. Main areas of activity are focused around few basic concepts like: geodiversity, geological heritage, geotopes / geosites, geopark, geoeducation. The potential for interaction between natural conservation and socio-economic activities made
geoconservation a new area of applied geology aiming to assure a sustainable use of natural resources for sustainable development and requiring a new type of specialist: geoconservationist
