As such, this research aimed to determine the performance of a revised dietary strategy built on the protein-sparing diet in obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus with regard to obtaining a rapid and stable improvement in glucometabolic control, body weight, body composition, and energy metabolism when applying the strategy in just twenty-one days. The revised protein-sparing diet differs from the traditional protein-sparing modified fast (PSMF) because it does not include foods. The daily calorie intake of this diet is exclusively derived from Isolate whey protein in addition to a formulation of Isolate whey protein enriched with essential amino acids in free form, with the addition of lipids such as extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil as a source of medium chain fatty acids, where the latter is taken for only the first four days of the diet, together with the use, for the s...

This study aims to evaluate the impact of an online individual counseling intervention provided by the University of Foggia and carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health status of a sample of university students.Methods32 Italian undergraduate students took part in a one-group pretest-posttest research design. The data was gathered in two times: before the start of the counseling intervention (T1), positive and negative affect, satisfaction with life, global mental distress, anxiety, stress, and future time perspective were collected, at the end of the counseling intervention (T2), the same dimensions were measured. A one-way repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was performed, a...

Universities of the Third Age offer education programs aimed at promoting psychological and social well being. There are a range of stereotypes about older people and their lifelong learning habits; for example, that they have low or no interest, experience anxiety or lack self-confidence (Chang, McAllister and McCaslin, 2014; Morrell, Mayhorn and Echt, 2004). These stereotypes are out of touch with reality. While there is general agreement in the literature that online educational programs can be effective interventions that foster intellectual stimulation and personal fulfilment (Gonzalez, Ram rez and Viadel, 2012, 2015; Goodwin, 2013; Wandke, Sengpi...

Institutional review board approval was obtained, and patients' consent was waived. 601 nodules were treated from May 2009 to December 2014 at eight centres, 449 (309 females, age 57 ± 14 years) with LA and 152 (107 females, age 57 ± 14 years) with RFA. A matched cohort composed of 138 patients from each group was selected after adjustment with propensity score matching. Factors influencing volume reduction at 6 and 12 months and complications were evaluated. No significant differences were observed in the baseline characteristics between groups after propensity score matching adjustment. Mean nodule reduction at 6 and 12 months was -67 ± 19% vs. -57 ± 21% (p < 0.001) - 70 ± 19% vs. -62 ± 22% (p = 0.001) in LA group and in RFA group, respectively. Nodules with volume >30 mL had significantly higher percentage volume reduction at 6 and 12...

The article is a scoping review that aims to trace the emerging issues in the field of research methodology. The online research has embraced the most disparate fields of research, in this review we have chosen to circumscribe to three main themes: education, psychological factors in elearning and working from home. Specifically, the emergence of an important amount of data such as big data and learning analytics made it necessary to review the purposes, methods of analyzing and reading emerging data in research contexts. The emerging themes during the pandemic related to education, psychological factors in elearning and working from home have had a research intervention due to social isolation and the need for such application models in the context of the pandemic.

Open-ended tasks allow a more in-depth assessment of students’ learning levels, but their evaluation and grading are time-consuming and prone to subjective bias. For these reasons, automatic grading techniques have been studied for a long time, focusing mainly on short-answers rather than long essays. Given the growing popularity of Massive Online Open Courses and the shifting from physical to virtual classrooms environments due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the adoption of questionnaires for evaluating learning performances has rapidly increased. Hence, it is of particular interest to analyze the recent effort of researchers in the development of techniques designed to grade students’ responses to open-ended questions...

In fact, it has been shown that children show the capacity for moral discernment, emotions and prosocial motivations from an early age. However, the moral sense is a complex construct of an evolutionary and social nature that evolves under the influence of interpersonal relationships. The emergence and development of moral sense is a challenge that has prompted many research studies with the aim of achieving a clear comprehension of moral development. However, success has been scarce, and studies relevant to this subject are limited. Thus, a systematic review of studies relevant to this topic was conducted to clearly establish how moral sense emerges and develops. An Ovid search was conducted to retrieve relevant items for this systematic review. The databases that were electronically visited are Cross-reference, Google Scholar and PubMed. Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were imposed on the retrieved ...

The innovative teaching methodologies (for example IBL, PBL, etc.) have been experiencing digital evolution and experimentation, especially during the covid-19 pandemic in which schools have engaged in periods of distance-teaching. The use of stories on social media is now a very widespread communication practice among internet users. This narrative methodology is used in educational practice in various sectors of training not only to electrify disciplinary content but also to encourage emotional sharing and participation in the educational process. The purpose of the article is the design of an educational intervention aimed at teachers in the initial stages of a training path that aims to develop digital skills and a group atmosphere that will accompany the us...

With this in mind, the two conferences must be as open as possible to international scholars; naturally, we worked in this direction. At the same time, in view of future developments, the foundations are already being laid for the future organization of this content update conference: the third meeting of teleXbe 2022 included two days comprised of studies that have concentrated their research on digital technologies for education and serious games (day 1) and the inclusive skills of university teachers (day 2). The organization of this event is in view of getting with a group of scholars from different universities, colleagues from the University of Naples and, above all, the strongly collaborative Prof. Miglino who, as you all know, unfortuna...

Abstract in English: Within this short paper we will focus on the applied research realized within our laboratory for the prototyping of educational resources and programs. In particular, we will enlarge the perspective thus referring not only to development itself, but to the broader aspects that precede this process – e.g. with the drafting of guidelines and criteria shared with the actors involved in the design-and those accompanying such activities, in constant relationship and interaction between research teams, developers and representatives of the educational sector. The main theoretical background is linked to the design thinking, which will provide an operational and methodological reference for the development of pathways and resources related to educational innovation. As an example will describe the design of online resources according to Mooc format, through a process of joint planning with the teachers of the courses, with the developers and the instructional design experts.
