Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of open unemployment, GDP HB, and investment on the level of poor people in the province of North Sumatra. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis with descriptive statistics. This study consisted of three independent variables, namely open unemployment (X1), PDRB HB (X2), investment (X3), while the dependent variable was the level of poor people (Y). The data used in this study are secondary data from 2003-2017. Results and discussion Simultaneously open unemployment investment, PDRB HB, and investment affect the level of poor people in North Sumatra Province. Partially it is concluded that the open unemployment variable has a positive effect on the level of poor people in North Sumatra Province, while the GDP HB variable and investment variables have a negative effect on the level of poor people in North Sumatra Province. The open unemployment variable, PDRB HB, investment is able to explain the model of the poverty rate in North Sumatra Province of 73.7 percent. And the remaining 26.3 percent is influenced by other variables.
