The ethnicity and work-related stress model (EWS; Capasso, Zurlo, & Smith, 2018, British Journal of Education, Society & Behavioural Science, 15, 1–20) integrated EWS dimensions in a multidimensional perspective combining demographic (sex, education) and individual characteristics (coping styles, Type A and Type D), cultural dimensions (acculturation strategies, perceived racial discrimination), work characteristics (work demands, work resources, rewards) and appraisals (job stress/satisfaction), in the prediction of psychophysical health conditions in migrant workers. The current research aimed to test the application of the EWS in a sample of Moroccan factory workers and hypothesised significant and specific profiles of associations between individual, ethnic and work characteristics, with psychophysical health outcomes. A questionnaire consisting of five sections measuring sociodemographics and individual differences (coping styles/personality), cultural dimensions (acculturation...

The study aims to propose and test a multi-dimensional infertility-related stress model including socio-demographic and fertility-related characteristics, infertility-related stress dimensions, coping strategies and couple’s dyadic adjustment dimensions as predictors of anxiety and depression among partners of couples undergoing infertility treatments. Both members of 250 infertile couples filled out a questionnaire consisting of Socio-demographics (Age; Educational level; Employment status), Fertility-related characteristics (Type of diagnosis; Duration of infertility), Fertility Problem Inventory-Short Form, Coping Orientations to Problem Experienced-New Italian Version, Dyadic Adjustment Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Y and Edinburgh Depression Scale. Hierarchical Multiple Linear Regressions indicated that the proposed predictive models for anxiety and depression were significant and had good levels of fit with the data. Gender differences emerged in predictor variables. Findings provide valid predictive models that could be adopted to assess psychological health in infertile patients and to develop evidence-based and tailored counselling interventions at centres for assisted reproduction.

The study proposed an application of the transactional model of stress in teaching elaborated by Travers and Cooper in 1996, and aimed to investigate the influence of personality characteristics (coping strategies, type A behaviors), situational characteristics (sources of pressure), and perceived job satisfaction in the prediction of teachers’ psychophysical health conditions. The Italian version of the Teacher Stress Questionnaire was administered to 621 teachers. Logistic regression was used to evaluate significant main and interaction effects of personality characteristics, situational characteristics, and perceived job satisfaction on teachers’ self-reported psychophysical health conditions. The findings highlighted specific coping strategies (focused on the problem, on innovation, and on hobbies and pastimes) and dimensions of job satisfaction (related to intrinsic aspects of job and to employee relations) buffering the negative effects of several job stressors. This study analyses the psychometric properties of the Italian version of the Teacher Stress Questionnaire elaborated in England by Travers and Cooper in 1996. This Italian survey was completed by 863 teachers randomly drawn from a cross-section of Italian school levels. The construct validity of the questionnaire was verified by factor analysis and by measuring the internal consistency of the single scales. All dimensions measured by the Teacher Stress Questionnaire were compared for sample subgroups of all teacher levels. Several meaningful and reliable factors emerged from the factor analysis of the scales. The internal consistency of each scale (Cronbach's α) revealed satisfactory values. Teachers' age and school level were determining factors for all dimensions of stress explored. The Italian version of the Teacher Stress Questionnaire showed satisfactory psychometric properties and constitutes a useful and reliable measure to analyse stress in Italian schools.

Educational systems play a pivotal role to prevent social exclusion and discrimination and to promote equity, mutual understanding and respect. Teachers, in particular, are required to take an active stand in supporting social inclusion, adapting their practices and developing new skills to successfully deal with the increasingly diverse range of learners in their classrooms. Therefore , enhancing teachers' intercultural skills and competencies represents a key priority in the contemporary challenging educational context. The present study aims at describing the psychological framework underpinning the development of an original e-learning tool created for teachers and educators to self-assess and to improve their intercultural skills and competencies. In particular, the study will describe in detail the Dryden and Constantinou' Model of Effective Communication and the Rahim' Model of Conflict Management styles, clarifying their application for the design of a Technologically Enhanced Educational Role-Playing Game (EduTechRPG), namely ACCORD Game, developed to train teachers to deal with interethnic conflicts within realistic school context scenarios.

Scenario-based learning (SBL) has recently received more and more attention in the training and education fields as a mechanism for providing active and generative learning. E-learning systems can provide a solid platform upon which SBL can be created and used to promote relational competences development , and to offer open source e-learning tools so to overcome common lack of access to affordable training resources. Within this paper a project called ACCORD to develop a new e-learning system to promote intercultural skills in terms of intercultural literacy, inclusive education and conflict management will be described. This project aims to prepare secondary school teachers from five European countries (Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain) to take an active stand against intercultural conflicts within the school context, by providing SBL and game-based learning approach. The present article will provide an overview of the ACCORD project, highlighting the theoretical framework underpinning its development, the methodologies that have been used, and the main preliminary outcomes.

Aim: This study aims to investigate the associations of perceived work-family conflict with nurses' psychophysical health conditions, exploring gender differences and analyzing the potential moderating effects of perceived job control (skill discretion and decision authority), social support, and job satisfaction. Methods: The study was carried out in five hospitals of the Italian Public Health Service. Participants were 450 nurses (206 men, 244 women). Self-administered questionnaires were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted. Results: Female nurses perceived significantly higher levels of work-family conflict, anxiety, depression and somatization. Significant gender differences emerged in the associations between work-family conflict and nurses' psychological health conditions and in moderating variables. Work-family conflict was significantly associated with anxiety and depression in male nurses and with somatization in both genders. The associations of work-family conflict with nurses' psychophysical health conditions were moderated by decision authority and job satisfaction, in male nurses, and by social support, in female nurses. Conclusions: Findings suggest including gender-specific moderating variables for defining tailored policies and interventions within healthcare organizations to reduce perceived work-family conflict and to promote nurses' wellbeing.

In recent years the debate on issues on the beginning of life and on the ethical-ontological status of the embryo shows how scientific progress in the biomedical field has modified the traditional concept of birth and has turned the attention of researchers towards the antenatal phase. Then, the problems related to abortion, artificial insemination, pre-dictive medicine and genetic screening are the main questions put forward by bioethics. The new possibilities of observation, monitoring , care, and interaction with forms of nascent life, with embryos to implant in assisted procreation, to accept, reject, cure in relation to predictive medicine and genetic screening, has changed the experience of procreation, placing the theme of filiation as the focus of discussions and a critical analysis on new possibilities to consider. These changes elicit both the juridical view, which focus on the definition and regulation of the different ties that have been established , and the psychological research, which examines the impact of biotechnology on individual, familiar and social psychic life. The article, moving from a psychoanalytic and relational perspective, firstly proposes some considerations on the intersection of conscious and unconscious desires and representations within which the beginning of life always makes sense and meaning, and then describes the way these

This article, corresponding to a part of the restitution of a financed international research project between France, Brazil, Canada, Italy and Belgium, aims to offer a modelisation and qualitative evaluation of mediation care settings based on an original methodological tool that involves identifying the typical games at the foundations of creativity, following a multidisciplinary perspective. Therapeutic mediations are settings or devices organized around a "pliable medium," often artistic, like painting, modeling, writing and theater, which are very widespread in institutional practices, both in France and abroad. The scientific objectives of this research consist in a multidisciplinary exploration (anthropology, criminology, neuroscience, clinical psychology) of the process of creative symbolization understood as a process of transformation involving play. According to this orientation, play can be defined as a psychic process whereby a subjective experience can be explored with pleasure, and consequently symbolized and appropriated. Our fundamental and original hypothesis is that play is at the source of the creative process, conceived as a work of metabolization by the psyche of playful experiences during the different stages of life. The review of the understanding of play in psychoanalysis, anthropology, criminology and neuroscience emphasizes the richness of this model and the importance of reflecting on the typical games in the field of psychic care. A clinical example of treatment in a pictorial therapeutic mediation setting of a child with psychotic disorders makes it possible to identify a number of typical games as well as the modalities of interpretation of the therapists through play. These multidisciplinary studies lead to the presentation of a general table of typical games, and these first results highlight the richness of identifying typical games in clinical settings. Ultimately, the multidisciplinary approach shows the interest of the model of Frontiers in Psychology | www.frontiersin.org 1

Aims: Ethnicity and culture represent a novel topic in the literature on stress and wellbeing at work because there has not been enough consideration of them in studies of work stress. This paper aims to present a critical review and evaluate recent articles investigating ethnicity in the literature on stress and wellbeing at work to identify limitations of previous research concerning all the aspects related to the cultural dimensions in this research area.
Methodology: Pubmed, PsycInfo and Scopus databases were searched for articles dealing with ethnicity and occupational health for the years 1985 to 2014. The studies were divided into three categories as follows: ethnicity and occupational mental health, ethnicity and occupational physical health, ethnicity and work stress.
Results: Sixty articles were selected, 26 on occupational mental health, 13 on physical health and 21 on work stress. None of the studies used a transactional perspective or took as a framework of reference general models of stress that integrate all the aspects related to ethnicity with work-related dimensions. Most of the reviewed studies measured ethnicity as a descriptive category of the working population studied (i.e. country of birth, nationality, language, skin color, origin, racial group) or focused on the differences between ethnic groups and it has failed to consider the salient cultural aspects such as acculturation strategy, cultural identity and perceived racial discrimination.
Conclusions: The gap in the work stress literature on different aspects of ethnicity suggests further consideration of the potential role of cultural dimensions as individual differences or as potential sources of stress in work stress models and shows the need to develop and test a general model that integrates ethnicity and work-related stress in a transactional perspective.

aims to test a multi-dimensional model that combines individual
differences, ethnicity dimensions, work characteristics, and
perceived job satisfaction/stress as independent variables in the
prediction of subjective reports of health by workers differing in
ethnicity.
Design: A questionnaire consisting of the following sections was
submitted to 900 workers in Southern Italy: for individual and
cultural characteristics, coping strategies, personality behaviours,
and acculturation strategies; for work characteristics, perceived job
demands and job resources/rewards; for appraisals, perceived job
stress/satisfaction and racial discrimination; for subjective reports
of health, psychological disorders and general health. To test the
reliability and construct validity of the extracted factors referred to
all dimensions involved in the proposed model and logistic
regression analyses to evaluate the main effects of the
independent variables on the health outcomes were conducted.
Results: Principal component analysis (PCA) yielded seven factors
for individual and cultural characteristics (emotional/relational
coping, objective coping, Type A behaviour, negative affectivity,
social inhibition, affirmation/maintenance culture, and search
identity/adoption of the host culture); three factors for work
characteristics (work demands, intrinsic/extrinsic rewards, and
work resources); three factors for appraisals (perceived job
satisfaction, perceived job stress, perceived racial discrimination)
and three factors for subjective reports of health (interpersonal
disorders, anxious-depressive disorders, and general health).
Logistic regression analyses showed main effects of specific
individual and cultural differences, work characteristics and
perceived job satisfaction/stress on the risk of suffering health
problems.
Conclusion: The suggested model provides a strong framework
that illustrates how psychosocial and individual variables can
influence occupational health in multi-cultural workplaces.

The study analyses factor structure and psychometric properties of the Italian version of the Fertility Problem
Inventory–Short Form. A sample of 206 infertile couples completed the Italian version of Fertility Problem Inventory (46 items) with demographics, State Anxiety Scale of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Form Y), Edinburgh Depression Scale and Dyadic Adjustment Scale, used to assess convergent and discriminant validity. Confirmatory factor analysis was unsatisfactory (comparative fit index = 0.87; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.83; root mean square error of approximation = 0.17), and Cronbach’s α (0.95) revealed a redundancy of items. Exploratory factor analysis was carried out deleting cross loading items, and Mokken scale analysis was applied to verify the homogeneity of the items within the reduced subscales of the questionnaire. The Fertility Problem Inventory–Short Form consists of 27 items, tapping four meaningful and reliable factors. Convergent and discriminant validity were confirmed. Findings indicated that the Fertility Problem Inventory–Short Form is a valid and reliable measure to assess infertility-related stress dimensions.

and Effort-Reward Imbalance models emphasising the role of individual (Coping Strategies; Overcommitment) and job characteristics (Job
Demands, Social Support, Decision Latitude, Skill Discretion, Effort, Rewards) in the work-related stress process. The present study aimed
to test the DRIVE Model in a sample of 450 Italian nurses and to compare findings with those of a study conducted in a sample of UK
nurses. A questionnaire composed of Ways of Coping Checklist-Revised (WCCL-R); Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ); ERI Test; Hospital
Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used. Data supported the application of the DRIVE Model to the Italian context, showing
significant associations of the individual characteristics of Problem-focused, Seek Advice and Wishful Thinking coping strategies and the
job characteristics of Job Demands, Skill Discretion, Decision Latitude, and Effort with perceived levels of Anxiety and Depression. Effort
represented the best predictor for psychological health conditions among Italian nurses, and Social Support significantly moderated the
effects of Job Demands on perceived levels of Anxiety. The comparison study showed significant differences in the risk profiles of Italian
and UK nurses. Findings were discussed in order to define focused interventions to promote nurses’ wellbeing.
