Collaborative archeology allows us to create direct links with descendant communities of past settlements, whose myths, oral tradition and historical memory provide an approach of the archaeological vestiges from the perspective of the former inhabitants. In this Research Article, we present our experience working with the descendant community of the Hacienda San Pedro, currently living in Cholul town (Yucatan, Mexico). Deployed in 2009, this project aims to generate alternative research strategies to recover historical memory of the settlement, due to the affectation caused by a new urban complex on Hacienda San Pedro landscape, on the outskirts of Merida city.
Chapters of books by Geiser Gerardo Martín Medina
Mesoamerican architecture was in most circumstances the material form in which the cosmovision and ideology of pre-Hispanic societies was represented, and among the Maya were no exception. Sites such as Ek ‘Balam, Palenque, and Copán present particular elements that are not only manifested in architecture. Ritual events associated with buildings and archaeological contexts provide data on the main buildings and the relationships between worldview, rituality, and the landscape.

This book presents results from a project in Azcapotzalco, Mexico City, and attempts to broaden the reach of local salvage archaeology projects by providing a model for future teams to make their work more accessible. Data on the excavated levels, analysis and distribution tables of lithic, glass, and ceramic materials are made available along with a catalog of lithics from the pre-Hispanic period and glassware from the 19th and 20th centuries. Ceramic samples include fragmented sherds of coarse tableware of the last Aztec phases, through to the fine, glazed porcelain and majolica slabs of the 16th and 17th centuries. Finally, various construction and material elements from the 19th century and early 20th century are presented.

This volume discusses the reality of the archaeological house; the home as a physical, social, and symbolic space in different geographical contexts and time periods. Ethnographic and archaeological case studies are considered.Long version:This volume is composed of 18 articles in which the reality of the house is approached, the home as a physical, social space, symbolic, over time and in different geographical contexts. Therefore, it is a transversal approach that begins in the Palaeolithic, passing through the Neolithic in Mesopotamia and the Iberian Peninsula, Chalcolithic and Protohistoric models and the Arab world in Greece and the Iberian Peninsula, and various models of the American continent: from Cahokia, going through hunter gatherers from the north of Mexico, Teotihuacan and various archaeological, ethnohistorical models corresponding to the Mayan culture. Methodological proposals are made from the archaeological and ethnographic perspective, passing through archaeological case studies focusing on constructive aspects and associated material culture, with theoretical reflection on the ways of approaching those daily realities that are domestic spaces and the diversity of functions.
This series of essays reflects on the concept of the Maya Cultural Landscape, using, amongst other things, the archaeological record, urban and architectural models, and the study of iconography.
On the 23rd, 24th and 25th of October 2014, a conference on Mexican Culture and Heritage in the Twenty-First Century was held in Merida (Yucatán, Mexico), as part of the Festival of Mayan Culture (FICMAYA). The purpose of this conference was to reflect on different aspects and types of heritage (archaeological, architectural, documentary), on the factors to be taken into account in its management, and on different ways to treat heritage from institutional or, in some cases, private perspectives. At the same time, examples of community management were proposed. The volume Patrimonio tangible e intangible mexicano: una reflexión thus has as its objectives both the analysis of and reflection about various issues related to heritage, education, society and culture as the backbone of the contemporary reality of a country like Mexico and of a society such as that of the Yucatán, which shows evidence of the past in all its towns and cities.
