Abstract- Façade Engineering is the art of resolving aesthetic, environmental and structural issues to achieve the enclosure of habitable space. Today lightness and transparency are properties that both architects and clients try to obtain. This has rapidly increased the use of glass in facades. By using steel as a load bearing structure, it is possible to keep the transparency restricting structures slim. The aim of this master’s thesis is to gather together information on research, design and codes about the structural design in steel-glass facades. The use of glass in facades causes many problems due to the material properties of glass. Glass differs from other building materials in aspect of being an extremely brittle material and breaking without a forewarning. This material property of brittleness has to be taken into account when designing large glass facades. Extended end plate bolted moment connections are integral part of multi-storeyed steel buildings & Industrial steel buildings. Extended end plate bolted moment connections are provided at beam column joints to achieve rigidity & stiffness to the structures against lateral loads. These lateral loads are induced due to the action of wind, earthquake & vibrations (caused because of man-machine movement). Moment connections are provided for beam & column intermediate splices to achieve flexural continuity over their spans. It is therefore important to identify standard method (analysis-design) & equations for extended end plate bolted moment connections. This Paper aims to study Lever arm method, Triangular force distribution method & Actual neutral axis method for design of extended end plate bolted moment connections. The further work comprises of comparing results obtained from all three methods with results obtained from Finite Element Model prepared in STAAD Pro Software. Most appropriate method showing close resemblance with results of FEA method for design of end plate bolted moment connection is then accepted.

Repair-To bring back position of structure to previous condition so as to give performance same as previous. It does not cover strength aspect of structure. Common objective of repair are as follows-1) Patching up defects such as cracks and fall of plaster. 2) Repairing doors, windows, replacement of glass panels. 3) Checking and repairing electrical wiring. 4) Checking and repairing gas pipes, water pipes & plumbing services. 5) Rebuilding structural walls, disturbed roof tiles etc. 6) Relaying cracked flooring Rehabilitation-Rehabilitation of a building means returning a building or a structure to useful state by means of repair, modification or alteration. It is related to strength aspect of structure. To bring back the position and condition of structure by considering strength aspect. Common objectives of rehabilitation are as follows-1) To fill wide cracks using some suitable material. 2) Injecting epoxy like material into cracks in walls, columns, beams. 3) Removal of damaged portion of masonry and reconstructing it using rich mortar mix. 4) Addition of reinforcing mesh on both sides of wall.
