A general overview of the problem is provided, from the point of view relating to the study of rock habitats in the Calabria region and in the territory of Palmi. Among the caves subject to photogrammetric survey, the one called "basilica" at the rock site of Pignarelle, has the largest dimensions. It also presents interpretative problems, shared with the other caves of the same site, due to the absence of characterizing elements, dating or not. The cavity was subjected to a structure from motion (SFM) digital survey, aimed at the three-dimensional representation of the same and the production of analytical representations. The data collected made it possible to formulate an initial analysis, identifying the macro phases of construction of the excavation. The cavity, a natural cavern in its first phase, was further enlarged in two different moments. If it is currently difficult to formulate valid hypotheses about the original nature and morphology of the site. The study wants to draw attention to a place full of charm and interest for scholars, explorers and connoisseurs of local history, also in view of its possible tourist enhancement. The survey is part of a doctoral research on the underground as a place of worship in Calabria, funded on POR Calabria funds and conducted at the "Mediterranean" University of Reggio Calabria, with 12 months at the Pontifical Institute of Christian Archeology.

The fortified citadel of Carlopoli, built between 1559 and 1566, was designed according to the canons of trace italienne fortification, in one of its most elementary schemes, with four bastioned corners and a rectangular plan. Today little remains of the mighty walls: a portion of the north-west corner bastion and, presumably, a trace of the curtain walls of the south elevation, surmounted by more recent buildings. A reading of the iconographic sources referable to the fortification itself or to fortified elements related to it is proposed. After the execution of a photogrammetric survey, a planimetric reconstruction highlights the geometric ratio used by the unknown designer. Carlopoli could therefore represent a case of fortification built essentially for dissuasive and representative purposes at the same time, a wall built to discourage the landing of raiders, and to celebrate the prestige of the Spinelli family: a symbol of power to be exhibited to the sailors of the Strait of Messina. From an urbanistic point of view, it can be said that the citadel was configured as an element around which the events of the city developed, an architecture around which the historical and urban developments of the city are based, perhaps ephemeral, but decisive in the historical-morphological definition of a territory in continuous and rapid transformation.

A quick introductory excursus, in which quick references are provided with respect to the Roman itineraries, as adnotata (Itinerarium Antonini, Itinerarium Burdigalense, Itinerarium Gaditanum) as picta (Shield of Dura Europos and Mosaic Map of Madaba), leaves space for a more complete illustration concerning the most extraordinary cartographic evidence that has come down to us from antiquity: the Tabula Peutingeriana. Dated to the fourth century, and arrived to us through a copy of XII-XIII, the Tabula is a color representation in eleven parchment segments that shows the road system of the world known to the Romans. Inserted in 2007 by UNESCO in the Register of the Memory of the World, the Tabula takes its name from Konrad Peutinger, who received it in 1507 from the German humanist Konrad Celtes. The long strip of parchment, now preserved in the National Library of Vienna under the name of Codex Vindobonensis 324, has had over time, thanks to its extraordinary interest, several editions, among which the most important is the Miller edition (facsimile of 1887 and analytical volume of 1916). As a result of a deconstructive analysis, from the point of view of the design, the identified constituent elements are presented, distinguished by natural elements, the division between land and water and mountain ranges, and anthropic elements, places of interest (vignettes) and road networks. What strikes the reader of the Tabula is the preponderant horizontality of the representation, or to generalize, the apparently arbitrary deformation to which the territory has been subjected, a feature that somehow unites the map to current subway maps. These are cases in which the meanings and messages transmitted do not vary by subjecting the signs to deformations, but on the contrary become more effective in communicating the message they carry. An unprecedented digitization of the Tabula Peutingeriana in all its extension is proposed, with particular attention to its graphic component. The open perspectives, with respect to what has been identified as the archetypal itinerary of reference, consist in the construction of a 21st century digital itinerary for the use of the contemporary traveler, which can favor the development of the cultural heritage tourism sector in the Calabria region.

Elia, in the municipality of Seminara (RC). Of probable Byzantine origin, it does not appear that scientific investigations of the site have been conducted to date. The intervention is focused on the restoration of a memory that today appears rather rarefied and referable only to the interest of some hikers and some attentive citizens. The tools of the architectural survey lead the investigation, integrated through historical references and interpretative hypotheses of what has been observed. The place has a discreet charm, and an aura of mystery, fueled by the presence of suggestive graffiti, envelops the space. The observer can see between the abundant and green vegetation, the signs of a distant and forgotten presence, characterized by detachment and a strong asceticism.

The subject of this essay are the ancient ruins of Santa Barbara’s monastery of Mammola (RC), which together with the latest enhancements made by the artist Nik Spatari, represent an enigmatic bridge between the inevitable dissolution of the past and an avant-gardist present that is constantly evolving. A deep historical investigation will be conducted in parallel with a relief operation, to open up the knowledge on a topic that hasn’t been properly inspected in time, whilst providing a graphic documentation of this structure that is lacking in the records. This investigation aims to become a deep survey, where the symbolic relationship between the object of the findings and the person who found it, unfolds in the act of drawing.

Starting from a concrete territorial context, the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria, a quick reflection on the theme of urban concentration/dispersion is proposed. The emblem of this dialectical clash is contained in the city models planned by Le Corbusier and F. L. Wright, Ville Radieuse and Broadacre City respectively. Some proposals for the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria are outlined, in the direction of social and economic development. The issues of the UN 2030 agenda are taken into consideration, in particular the targets set by Goal 11. Urgent interventions are identified within the road network and connections in general, elements which, in relation to local planning practices, would favor the development of the territory in a new direction.

The dualistic mechanisms that govern the functioning of rational thought, the division into two fields and the localization, are reduced to a single essence. The volume of the circumference with an infinite radius therefore coincides with a single whole, an absolute place in which the formation of limits and caesuras depends on the will of some already separate entity. The fundamental geometric entities – the dotted line, the dotted plane, the totality of the points that make up the space – are the elements of caesura, principles that allow us to articulate an otherwise indistinct continuum in sensible fractions. Are briefly defined some concepts concerning the house, the basic cell of the city, which is seen as the space of the psyche of its inhabitants. The city is the space of the socially and politically determined collectivity. The separation between the domestic space and the external environment is marked by symbolic caesuras, pure delimitation signs, which, translated from the geometric space of the drawing to the psychophysiological space of material reality, represent the almost alchemical act of transmutation of the architectural logos, the drawing, in plastic material. The language of architecture in the digital age, reduced to the yes/no of binary language, materializes in virtual space through pixels, indivisible and discrete atoms. Virtual space can be considered as a three-dimensional plot of switch points, objects that manifest only spatial relations. Isotropic, homogeneous, infinite, ascalar, virtual space is an expression of the most abstract geometry, place where the possibility of the ideal perfection of forms is realized, but also a dangerous place, where you can get lost. The amazement, the surprise, the wonder, the casual encounter with the other, are the elements of the real space that we go through every day, moments in which the separate entities, recognized their own common origin and essence, resonate, in the mutual seduction of their newfound unity. It is in the continuous pulsation between unity and separation, between the self and the collective, that the individual makes his journey, led between cities, landscapes, houses, limits and openings. A panorama on which to project one's most intimate space, but from which to draw the other, a process of mutual fertilization, a whirlwind and inseparable relationship between the self and multiplicity.

Reggio Calabria are outlined, in the direction of social and economic development. The issues of the UN 2030 agenda are taken into consideration, in particular the targets set by Goal 11.
