“Of all topics on the curriculae of our Departments of English, Translation and Reading are the most accommodating of an inception of multidisciplinarity. Between Translation and Reading, Translation is, for obvious reasons, the more convenient gateway for multidisciplinarity, not least as a subject that is astride two languages and two cultures. By "discipline," I mean any of the subjects of the intra-departmental English Studies triad "Civilisation / Literature / Linguistics," and--in relation to Translation--any of the interdepartmental specialities in the humanities (history, geography, philosophy, Arabic Studies, etc) (...) Interdisciplinary approaches require cooperative work with colleagues from the English Department and across the other departments. To better capture the move to ‘de-siloise,’ a terminology which borrows extensively from the lingo of economics, an overarching domain best equipped with measurement frameworks, teachers and researchers must respond to a logic of “how weaknesses/constraints” can be turned into “strengths / opportunities” in boundary-crossing. For this to materialize, we--teachers--need to learn to work together across subjects / disciplines.”

This article aims at reinforcing the
assumption that the Algerian writer Mouloud
Feraoun lived between two cultures though he
was not able to break away from any: the
original Kabyle culture and the French culture.
My article will bring out the complementarity
between these two cultures, on one hand, and
the abyss that separate them, on the other
hand. We will mainly see how Feraoun puts
both cultures side by side, in his novel La
Terre et le Sang, but fails to blend them
together. Through this article, I will try to
answer two main questions: How the Self and
the Other accept each other and coexist in
Feraoun’s novel? What is the aim of Feraoun
when he brings Madame to Ighil Nezman
instead of letting Amer live in Paris?

This paper will mainly focus on the difficulties encountered by Algerian students when translating from Arabic into English. It will give examples of texts dealt with during classes and exams, and the mistakes students usually make. It will also deal with the impact of French as the second language in Algeria, on the meaning rendering in English. The period will cover the academic years 2012 and 2013, and the study will concern junior and senior students in translation institute, University of Algiers 2. The presentation will deal with some principles of the nature of Arabic and English, originally different from each other in both culture and civilization. The paper will specifically answer the two following questions: To which extent is the current translation curriculum in the Algerian university efficient to teach and learn English? What are the criteria of a successful English teaching for students in translation?

Le présent article traite des techniques de censure et d'adaptation dans la traduction des contes occidentaux pour enfants, en Algérie. Il s'agit de relever les marques de transmission de cette littérature d'un contexte linguistique et culturel donné en un autre contexte totalement différent, par les traditions et d'autres contraintes sociétales. Cet article tentera d'explorer comment s'opère le processus de traduction des contes pour enfants dans le milieu plurilingue algérien. Pour ce, quatre traductions arabes de trois contes occidentaux qui sont: La Belle au Bois Dormant, Blanche Neige et Cendrillon seront analysées. Ces traductions ont été publiées par des maisons d'édition algériennes, et l'analyse se fera aussi bien au niveau du fond qu'au niveau de la forme. De plus, la nature de cette recherche appellera à approcher des notions binaires y inhérentes telles que objectivité/subjectivité, présence/ absence, forme/sens, suppression/ajout, auteur/traducteur, soi/autre, texte/lecteur. Abstract: The present article discusses the techniques of censorship and adaptation in the translation of Western children's stories in Algeria. It is mainly about raising the marks of the transmission of this literature from a given linguistic and cultural context into a context, totally different by its traditions and other societal constraints.

Dans Rue des Tambourins, Taos Amrouche exprime son désarroi et sa tristesse, résultats inéluctables de son exil et de son rejet. Dans quel contexte est né ce sentiment et quelles en sont les répercussions sur la famille Amrouche , en général, et sur Taos, en particulier ? Quand exactement prend-elle conscience de son identité complexe et celle de sa famille, et qui conduit à leur déracinement du Pays ? C'est à ces deux questions que le présent article tente de répondre, dans une étude analytique de Rue des Tambourins, basée essentiellement sur le discours narratif et descriptif. Mots-clé : taos amrouche, identité, double culture, kabyle, fadhma aïth mansour. Abstract In Rue des Tambourins, Taos Amrouche expressed her confusion and sadness, two inevitable consequences to the exile she knew and the reject she underwent. In which context did this feeling appear, and what are the consequences on the Amrouches and especially, Taos? When did she realize the complicated feature of her identity and the identity of her family, and which led to their uprooting? The present article tries to answer these main two questions through an analytical study of Rue des Tambourins, based on narrative and descriptive discourse.
