As well as Pistacia lentiscus, is a species widely used in traditional medicine that is part of a large family of Anacardiaceae. Aims: To determine the biological properties including the antioxidant activity of the mixture of the extract of P. lentiscus berries associated with honey at different concentrations (0.5%, 2%, 4%, 8% and 12%). Methods: Physicochemical parameters and phenolic compound amounts. The antioxidant activities (reducing power, FRAP, CUPRAC, TAC, DPPH, ABTS, and ferrozine) were also tested. Results: According to the physico-chemical parameters, the honey and the mixture analyzed are in conformity with the international standards. The results of the antioxidant assay gave a significant content of total phenolic compounds for the H/DP mixtures, the sample of honey alone analyzed exerts a weak antioxidant activity compared to the two mixtures made. Conclusion: The honey and Pistacia compound constitute an important source of antioxidants which intensifies very significantly the antioxidant activity of the blend.

It aimed also to develop different formulations of strawberry jams with a mixture of LBG and pectin in order to obtain a product with a high sensory acceptance. METHODS: the physicochemical characteristics of LBG were assessed. The impact of temperature on solubility was also studied. The physical and the sensory profile and acceptance of five Jams were evaluated. RESULTS: composition results revealed that LBG presented a high level of carbohydrate but low concentrations of fat and ash. The LBG was partially cold-water-soluble (∼62% at 25°C) and needed heating to reach a higher solubility value (∼89% at 80 °C). Overall, the sensorial acceptances decreased in jams J3 which was formulated with 100% pectin and commercial one (J5). The external preference map explained that most consumers were located to the right side of the map providing evidence that most samples appreciated were J4 and J2 (rate of 80–100%). CONCLUSION: In this investigation, the LBG was used successfully in the strawberry jam’s formulation.

The antioxidant activity was evaluated with different tests (ABTS, DPPH, metal chelation, ferric reducing power, antiperoxidation and ORAC tests), the anti-inflammatory activity was assessed with three tests (denaturation protein inhibition, antiproteinase and anti-hemolytic tests). Finally, the anticoagulant activity was tested by endogenous and exogenous ways. The three extracts (AP: acetone polysaccharides extract, EP: eth-anol polysaccharides extract and PP: propanol polysaccharides extract) have exhibited a very interesting activities but with different degrees. The AP extract was most effective in almost all antioxidant activities (antiradical ABTS and DPPH, metal chelation, reducing power and ORAC), in two in vitro anti-inflammatory and the anticoag-ulant activities. However, for the lipid antiperoxidation activity, it was the PP extract that gave better activity. The best antiproteinase activity was expressed by the EP extract. These results indicate that polysaccharides of Aleppo pine seed may be considered as a source of bioactive polysaccharides and the precipitation solvent of the polysac-charides has a major effect on the intensity of the bioactivity of these polysaccharides.

EC-EF tests with aluminum electrodes were conducted for the treatment of a synthetic copper solution of 100 mg/L, to estimate the influence of the mucilage on removal of copper metal ions, aluminum and hydrogen Faradaic yields, settling process and specific electrical energy consumption. It was mainly found that: (i) copper removal efficiency reached 100% in < 5 min with 30 mg/L OFI mucilage at pH 7.8; (ii) OFI mucilage affected aluminum and hydrogen Faradaic yields at high removal efficiencies; (iii) copper sludge settling rate rises with increasing mucilage concentrations, and was enhanced by 15%; (iv) OFI mucilage reduced specific energy consumption at a fixed current density along with removal efficiency increase. Furthermore, the formed flocs, in the presence or not of mucilage, were identified by scanning electron microscope analysis (SEM). This work promotes the use of OFI mucilage as an active natural coagulant aid for the removal of copper species from water, by suggesting the substitution of chemical coagu-lants that are often added to the EC-EF technique.
