All these different concepts are combined in a holographic symbol. Due to the findings of the researchers of the different fields, some correlations to time/space and subjectivity evoke out of the conclusion. The concepts are all based on a phenomenological approach concerning the assumption, that if there are exceptional experiences of being conscious of something, these experiences have to be included to show the whole range of consciousness.

The Master’s thesis investigates Marvin Harris´ cultural materialism and Gregory Batesons cybernetics using philosophy of science, to approach a system theory for anthropology. Specifically, the explanation of religion and the sacred are focused to allow a concrete comparison. The epistemological premises and the range of explanation are analyzed. Other systemic and connecting approaches of cybernetics and cultural materialism are set forth in order to address systems, group selection and feedback:
Marvin Harris, the founder of the cultural materialism, explains religion and, as shown, the sacred cow by using infrastructural determinism. This means that cultural phenomena are practical necessities of ecological, demographic and economic conditions and can be rationally explained by these conditions. The example of the holy cow has been both, much criticized as also largely confirmed by further data. However, some critiques are outstanding, such as the lack of feedback mechanisms of political and human influences on infrastructural determinants and ultimately, the outstanding argument that it explains a non-slaughter of cows, but not holiness. Therefore, cultural materialism can explain the material components of things with meaning to a large extend, but not the importance of meanings that people attach to things.
Gregory Bateson, a representative and co-creator of cybernetics, argued for a qualitative analysis of information. By addressing evolution and the development of religion, he explains the need to consider the unity of mind and nature. Causal relationships are to be used for inanimate and cybernetic relationships for living beings. Living beings base on processes of change, which are associated with learning and mind. With these premises Bateson traces the logic of consistent ideas. Some ideas, as well as the game, phantasy, religious symbols and meanings are not linked to a real environment. Their conservation is ensured by isolating blasphemous and heretical influences. Holiness is the unquestioned function to maintain the consistency of ideas. Thus Bateson can explain in an abstract way holiness, but not the canonization of concrete events.
The analysis of scientific and theoretical assumptions and their comparison show inter alia that the causal cause-effect determination of cultural phenomena, as examined by cultural materialism, can only persist, if it does not seek to explain the infrastructural conditions, but accepts them as given. Cybernetic relationships are relevant when processes of change at all levels of study are explained and feedback mechanism thus become necessary. Models of explanation of Roy Rappaport, Mark Pagel and Walter Dostal are cited as further thoughts to accommodate the criticism of the very high degree of abstraction and to get closer to a combination of these two approaches. In addition, systemically important definitions are given in order to deepen the understanding of a system theory context. A possible integration of Bateson´s, Pagel´s and Rappaport´s approaches to explain the sanctity of the cow is provided at the end.

The successful implementation of progress and innovation is more likely to take place when the functions, characteristics and values of cultural systems of knowledge are properly understood, which calls for an approach that connects anthropology to systems thinking in the support of scientific findings.

Therefore, I want to focus in here, what is meant by that. Consciousness research itself had only a quite young history in academia, as an own discipline. The word consciousness itself is less than 500 years old and does not appear in every language as a same meaning, not to mention the same etymology. Philosophy had talked about consciousness as a reflective act of our mind. In here again we fall into some traps of wording: " Geist " in German means spirit and mind, whereas the former is a collective and the second an individual entity which allows awareness and meaning. Starting from Hegel and later Husserl the term phenomenology was coined in philosophy, which lead the immanent question of existence itself while looking not only into the thoughts that might be based on other thoughts, but while looking directly into the experience of human life and its interactions. Existential consciousness is from its philosophical standpoint first a reminder, that any kind of consciousness has its premise in the direct experience of the " Here and Now " and second, a perspective of the immanence of even transcendental philosophy in the way it exists in the world. Neurology and Cognitive Science lead from the 80s and 90s the discourse on brain, mind and sometimes consciousness, but till now consciousness is along with the creation of meaning not found in neurons. Quantum Physics has challenged our common understanding of reality, as something we cannot distinguish from the observer. Where do our dreams and visions in altered states of consciousness come from? Freud and Jung led the path towards an understanding of archetypes lying in the conscious unconscious, which are also found in myth, legends and pantheons of gods and demons in all-over different cultures and its performed experience in mystic and inner alchemical traditions. Our aim is while observing existential consciousness, to overcome the distinctions which divide a proper understanding and explanation of our consciousness in the world, as well as, reach out and introduce a diversified picture of realities, to deliver orientation and well-being, because of a process of knowing oneself and what life brings about. The research areas as mentioned next are to our knowledge the most promising fields of inquiry to leverage the world to a better place, namely by science and humanities, especially by creating dialogues between Quantum Physics, Philosophy of Consciousness, Depth and Integral Psychology, Phenomenology and Cultural and Religious Studies. We are looking forward to collaborating with researchers and activists that aim evolution on education, self-knowledge, science and religions and technology by regarding consciousness as the primer source and catalysing a paradigm transformation for our peaceful living on earth. Don´t hesitate to collaborate and to contact us. The major fields to a truly transdisciplinary consciousness research are defined as follows:
