On the one hand, a distinct feature of Russian Arctic aviation is its unpredictability. Delays, cancellations of flights, and persistent waiting by passengers are an inevitable part of the everyday life of airports in Chukotka. On the other hand, even in remote places of the Russian North, airports are spaces of heightened control. This article argues that the disjuncture between the rigidity of airports and the flexibility of people creates a podsadka game among passengers and contributes to its "hunting"/"active" peculiarities. The article begins with a comparison of passenger and air carrier perspectives, which are termed "lucky" and "efficient" mobilities, respectively. It expands on this theme by considering airports as spaces for displays of diverse airport regulations and passenger intentions. Finally, it focuses on specific traits of Chukotkan mobility that include overcoming multiple queues and waiting, revealing the strategies applied by local people to be lucky in their travels.

The authors examine the relationship between people and food, not only supplied from outside and sold in rural stores, but also produced within the community in the course of the interaction of local people with the landscape. The research presents the results of fieldwork conducted in 2017–2019 in the Iultinskiy rayon of the Chukotka autonomous okrug. The paper analyses the temporality of food as well as the supply paradoxes that local people face on а daily basis. Trying to answer the question about the reasons for the appearance of expired food products in the villages of Chukotka, the authors focus on the processes of the transformation of materiality of food and the mobility of food products. The article discusses strategies for maintaining food autonomy by local people in order to minimize dependence on supplies from public and private trading companies in a context of limited and low-quality supply.

For modern Russia, the problem of choosing the direction of modernization and the search for new energy sources and energy-saving technologies in the Arctic is poignant. In this regard, it becomes important to study the resources used by local communities, as well as the process of adaptation of the inhabitants of the North to socio-economic and environmental changes. Creation of a general picture of the energy relations of local people with the natural landscape with the identification of the adaptive capabilities of such communities to integrate into the changing regional socio-economic environment is an urgent issue in the context of the increasing pace of development of the Russian Arctic. In this monograph, the authors, using the example of their own field studies in Taimyr, northern Yakutia, and Chukotka, examined at the micro level how local people are obtain, distribute, and preserve resources they need to keep action potential. The main objective of the book is the study of energy processes on a scale commensurate with an individual and his daily practices. The work is addressed to ethnographers, social anthropologists, sociologists, culturologists, geographers, historians, archaeologists, northern studies specialists, as well as to a wide range of readers.
