The study’s sample is consisted by 381 men and women of over 15 years of age. All the participants attend Greek danceseminars. The responders were 224 people from Athens and 157 from province. The Greek version (Filippou et al., 2019) of the original “BRSQ (Behavior Regulation in Sport Questionnaire)” (Lonsdale, Hodge & Rose, 2008) was used for the data collection. The following statistical analyses were performed: a) Descriptive statistics, b) Cronbach’s alpha to examine the reliability of the factors c) T-test for independent samples, to ascertain any differences due to “men and women” d) One – Way Analysis of variance to indicate any differences due to “age”, “family situation” and “educational status”. This study found that the participants are largely internally motivated. More specifically, most important motivating factors for participating in traditional dance seminars were “internal motivation in general”, “internal motivation for experience”, “internal motivation for achievement” and “internal motivation for knowledge”. Furthermore, showed that there are differences in the incentives for participation between the groups attending traditional dance seminars, regarding to age.

Such actions are: teaching traditional dances, traditional musical instruments and traditional songs, sections with folklore collections such as costumes, etc., participation in performances (local festivals, domestic or foreign festivals), organization of traditional evenings and traditional dance workshops (seminars). Such workshops have taken place in Greece since the late 70s. They are organized either by organizations or individuals and they are addressed primarily to non-Greek tourists. Greeks showed interest and hurried to watch them about ten years later. These days, the number of such seminars constantly increases as well as the interest of participant's persistently intensifies. The purpose of this work was to examine the profile and motivations of individuals from various dance groups of cultural associations (dancers or dance-teachers) who attend traditional dance workshops, organized throughout Greece, by various individuals or cultural organizations. The study sample was 381 men and women of over 15 years of age. The participants were attending Greek dance workshops. The responders were 224 people from Athens and 157 from province. This study was based on a structured questionnaire. Respondents are a sample of individuals who are dedicated to Greek folk dance (Greek or foreign tourists). They are amateur dancers or professional folk dancing instructors but all of them have attended workshops of folk-dance in different parts of Greece. Results stressed the emergence of (a) a growing need for urgent assessment of market value for folk dancing which is associated with cultural tourism, and (b) a need to re-evaluate current educational perspectives to increase the academic status of folk dance to a certified degree level, in order to preserve and promote Greek cultural heritage.
