Study design: A systematic review of randomised controlled trials. Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of 22 commonly administered physiotherapy interventions for people with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). Methods: The inclusion criteria contained 22 pairs of key interventions and outcomes. Each intervention and outcome was considered independently such that 22 brief reviews were conducted and summarised in this one paper. The interventions included hand, wheelchair, seated mobility, fitness, strength and gait training, as well as electrical stimulation, passive movements, stretch, cycling, exercise and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Interventions were compared with no or sham treatment, usual care or another physiotherapy intervention. The primary outcome for each review was one of the following: seated mobility, wheelchair mobility, hand function, gait, voluntary strength, joint mobility, fitness and pain. Data were extracted to determine mean between-group differences or risk ratios (95% confidence interval). Where possible, results were pooled in meta-analyses and the strength of evidence rated using Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Results: Thirty-eight randomised controlled trials met the inclusion criteria and were relevant to 15 of the brief reviews. The following four interventions were clearly effective: fitness, hand and wheelchair training as well as TENS; however, the strength of evidence was not high for any of these interventions. None of the other interventions were clearly effective. Conclusion: There is initial evidence to support four physiotherapy interventions, but there is still a long way to go to put a strong evidence base to the range of physiotherapy interventions commonly used to manage people with SCI. INTRODUCTION There are numerous systematic reviews, literature reviews and clinical practice guidelines summarising the effectiveness of different physiotherapy interventions for people with spinal cord injuries (SCIs). 1–12 However, most include non-randomised studies that are highly vulnerable to bias. There are some high-quality Cochrane Systematic Reviews, but they often include interventions not typically administered by physiotherapists or include people with different types of neurological conditions. They are also very detailed, which can limit their accessibility. 11,13–15 We wanted to provide an unbiased but very accessible summary of the evidence underpinning physiotherapy practice as part of a larger project devoted to adding 'evidence tips' to the physiotherapy module of www.elearnSCI.org. For this reason, we conducted 22 brief reviews that were restricted to randomised controlled trials. The reviews are 'brief' because each examines the effectiveness of an intervention on one primary outcome. The results of each review are pooled in this one paper to provide an overall summary of the evidence about the effectiveness of a range of different but commonly administered physiotherapy interventions.

Children may have a foundational role in efforts to raise community awareness about dementia. There is some qualitative work with children with a relative with dementia, but little work into the insights of children as general citizens without affected family. One issue is an absence of measurement tools; thus the study aimed to design and pilot a psychometrically sound self-report measure of dementia attitudes for children. Using a multi-staged scale development process, stakeholder and expert input informed a 52-item Kids Insight into Dementia Survey (KIDS). After a pretest of KIDS with 21 Australian schoolchildren aged 10-12 years, exploratory factor analysis and reliability and validity testing were run on a revised KIDS with data from 203 similar-aged schoolchildren. BackgroundIndividuals with depression are often found to perform worse on cognitive tests and to have an increased risk of dementia. The causes and the direction of these associations are however not well understood. We looked at two specific hypotheses, the aetiological risk factor hypothesis and the reverse causality hypothesis.MethodWe analysed observational data from two cohorts, English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) and Health and Retirement Study (HRS), using cross-lagged panel models with unit fixed effects. Each model was run once with depression and repeated with cognition as the dependent variable and the other variable as the main explanatory variable. We measured COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE) against symptomatic infection, using a multicentre test-negative study at primary care/community level in Europe.MethodsPatients presenting with COVID-19/ARI symptoms at primary care/community level in 10 countries were tested for SARS-CoV-2. BackgroundPeople with multiple health conditions are more likely to have poorer health outcomes and greater care and service needs; a reliable measure of multimorbidity would inform management strategies and resource allocation. This study aims to develop and validate a modified version of the Cambridge Multimorbidity Score in an extended age range, using clinical terms which are routinely used in electronic health records across the world (SNOMED CT).Methods and FindingsWe curated new variables describing 37 health conditions and modelled the associations between these and 1-year mortality risk using the Cox proportional hazard model in a development dataset (n=300,000). Background Caring for a person with dementia has profound physical, psychological, social and financial impacts on the carer, while morbidity in carers has detrimental effects on outcomes in people with dementia. A 10-day hospital-based residential carer training program (BMJ 299(6712):1375–1379, 1989) delayed residential care placement, delayed mortality, reduced carer’s psychological morbidity and lowered care costs. This study aims to evaluate the effects of a similar program adapted for use with residential respite. Methods/Design This is a single-arm longitudinal study conducted at a residential aged care facility involving 100 people with dementia and their primary carers. In a 7-day residential program, carers will attend intensive training sessions while the people with dementia are engaged in daily activities.
