According to Halliday et al, the context of situation consists of three components: 1- Field : The total event , what's happening, the nature of the social interaction taking place. 2- Tenor : The role interaction, who is taking part, the social role of participants. 3- Mode : The function of a text in the event including channel (spoken, written–monologue, dialogue–telephone, computer mediated communication ) and its genre ( symbolic organization of text: Rhetorical mode / persuasive/ didactic, …etc.).

Linguistically , syllabification has been long considered as a key concept through which the syllable can be properly studied (varam , 1964 : 472). The identification at the syllable boundaries is thorny and problematic. normally , it is easy to count how many syllable a word contains by noticing peaks of prominence. yet it is often difficult and sometimes imposible to determine precisely where a syllable begins and ends (Jones , 1956 :136) especially in connected uquence of syllables in normal speech. It often happens that one or more consonants from the end at one woed the following resulting in a consonant sequence deviating the conditions of syllable structure in English. One of the most widely accepted theories , which is believed to hold of languages is general (Carr , 1993 :202) , is the maximal onsets principle (or the onset first principle) which states that two syllables are to be divided , any consonants between them should be attached to the right – hard syllables , not to the left within the restrictions govering syllables on sets and codas (Katamba , 1989 :161 and Roach , 2009 : 61) This principle explains considering the syllables-fication of the word 'extra' as /ek.stra/ as the most preferable one and rejecting any other sylla-bifications .

Grice’s Cooperative Principle is an assumed basic concept in pragmatics. Grice has relocated the Cooperative Principle from philosophy to linguistics.

It is an attempt to shed light on some of the rhetorical devices. It also aims to reveal the expressional and imaginative function of various rhetorical aspects that are basic in the structure of religious texts. The study hypothesizes that in such texts, the meanings are plain and disposed to affect the minds and hearts of listeners/ readers together due to the rhetorical style such language has. It starts with a brief idea about Rhetoric; its relationship with pragmatics. The paper also deals with figures of speech and Tropes, especially those used in religious texts. The paper ends with an analysis of some selected Quranic verses taken as representatives.
