This paper examines the multivoicedness of masculinities in a specific local context. We analyze Hungarian male university students' spontaneous conversations, recently recorded in the Budapest University Dormitory Corpus. Drawing on the Bakhtinian concept of voice, we argue that individual and social voices of masculinity, as well as the contrasts between them, are embedded in gendered and sexualized inequality relations. Even pro-feminist and 'gay' voices in the interactions are structured by social inequalities. The voicing of a homosexual figure does not only evoke negatively valued unmasculine behaviors, but also help creating homosocial (same-gender and non-sexualized) intimacy. It always happens as a stylized image of 'another's language'.

However, the modes and ways of migration have been going through alteration processes, and that is a major motivation to apply new approaches in investigating the intersection of migration and language. This paper addresses the issue of Hungarian Americans’ narratives about their multilingual identity and life situation with special attention to employment, linguistic repertoire, contacts with other migrants, and communication with people in the country of origin.

The category of this phenomenon consists of linguistics activities, modes of language use, which may be indecent exposure, may seem indecorous, hurtful or violent for any participants or observers of the given discourse from a certain normative point of view. Thus obscenity is not a circumscribed conglomeration of linguistic elements, but it is constructed by the judgments of them – this is the reason why it is adequate to interpret this area with the approach of language ideologies. In this paper, I examine metalinguistic reflections dealing with obscenities in the interview corpus and the database of spontaneous conversations of Budapest University Dormitory Corpus. I also compare how these two essentially different types of discourses (metadiscourses and everyday interactions) are related to each other and previous results of research. The key aspect of comparison is the indexical meaning in the context of gender identities and the construction of expected linguistic behavior of educated people. The main aim of the paper is to show a possible application of the corpus of our research group.

However, most of these works could not adequately overcome the difficulties of defining precisely the analysed concepts (such as swearwords, bad language or verbal aggression). My paper aims to fill this theoretical gap by applying language ideologies, which are systems of ideas that appear in discursive practices and influence attitudes towards others' language use. This approach allows us to see linguistic features which are considered obscene, because these evaluations are influenced by an ideologically conceptualized normative point of view, which prompts us to define the category of obscenity, including lexemes and constructions, which may appear to be improper, insulting or impolite for any participant of a given discourse. In this paper, I analyze how my informants construc linguistic ideologies is metalinguistic discourses about obscenities.
