Denise Russell is the author of two books: Women, Madness and Medicine (Polity, Oxford, 1993, 1999) and Who Rules the Waves (Pluto, London, 2010) as well as numerous articles on epistemology, philosophy of psychiatry/psychology, political philosophy and recent ones on environmental philosophy and animal ethics. She set up a journal: “Animal Issues” which she edited for 5 years. This was about philosophical and ethical aspects of human/animal relationships. She worked for many years in the Department of General Philosophy at the University of Sydney and was Head of Department for three years. She is now an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Wollongong and is mainly pursuing her interests in animal ethics and environmental philosophy with papers and talks on these issues and the setting up of a web-site (with Melissa Boyde) aiming to provide a knowledge base for replacing animals in research (www.uow.edu.au/arts/research/raat).
