In order to carry out this study, we opted for a qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective based on grounded theory and the use of written narratives developed by the participating professors in this study. The most relevant findings included diversity in the genesis of academic vocation and its consequent trajectory since at least two tendencies were identified: those originating in the specific professional practice and those born in the university context, with the institutional conditions of the university, to which the doctoral student teachers belong, playing an important role in both. It is also striking that the determination to become an academic can occur at the beginning of professional life or once they have already experienced other fields of work, which is related to the field of knowledge of undergraduate studies, determining that professors who are doctoral students are more likely to become academics than those who are not; determining that professors who studied philosophy, accessed more quickly and naturally way to the academic field, which is different in other professions, that required before involved in the academy, to experience work in the specific professional field.

The study focuses on the intentions, experiences, and prospects regarding the decision to study for a doctorate as a university professor. Background: This research has a dual background. On the one hand, there is the institutional interest in establishing an academic and professional profile of university professors studying for a doctorate in decision-making.

Participants were 175 students from two private universities. A significant positive correlation was observed between academic performance and the pattern oriented to meaning, and a significant negative correlation between the former and the undirected pattern. A multiple orientation pattern was predominant among students from both universities, followed by a pattern oriented to meaning.

As a support mechanism for teachers in the face of the radical change from physical presence to virtual presence, two courses were designed by the School of Pedagogy of the Universidad Panamericana: the first on Instructional Design and the second on didactic tools that enhance interaction and revitalization of classes. The summer of 2020 was the ideal time to train and prepare teachers in the instructional design of online classes because, although the educational model of the university is face-to-face, the circumstances and health limitations forced a strategic change to carry on with the quality that characterizes the institution. The preliminary results that we analyze with the SPSS software indicate that for 90.5% of the teachers the content of the course contributed to their professional development and that 87.2% have sufficient elements to redesign their subject for the following semester, which is executed in virtual mode.
