To identify this type of understandings, research was carried out at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB), in Medellín, Colombia, one of the most important private universities in the country. The main goal of this research was to diagnose how the SDGs are integrated into five undergraduate and three postgraduate programs at the institution. For the development of this, methodological approaches such as documentary and content analysis were used to appraise the research construct in different documents and identify its tendency. For this identification, an analysis grid was constructed to compare the information; thus, elements related to the SDGs were grouped and the others were discarded. The findings show that UPB has had a focus on social responsibility represented in equity, peace and justice and that today there is a tendency towards the care of natural resources and the ethical reflection this entails. It was also identified that in the Program Educational Projects (PEPs) there is evidence of elements related to the SDGs; however, this occurs in some programs more than in others. Unfortunately, the SDGs are not presented systematically in all PEPs, nor are they a transversal axis; however, UPB is working towards this. Therefore, this study provides a self-evaluative look at the implementation of structural changes so that ESD is included in all programs.

The plan is the result of the work conducted by a unified social responsibility strategy among the different UPB schools, following the corporate social responsibility (Corporate Social Responsibility). Here, we illustrate several of the internal and external approaches the UPB has been carrying out in order to achieve its institutional Mission. Particularly, we outline the following strategies: (1) organizational culture, (2) UPB internal key actions, and (3) UPB external actions in support of the sustainable development goals. In addition, and as part of this process, the UPB configured five strategic focuses to enhance its research, innovation, and development activities, to generate a high social impact according to the humanist identity, but innovative in its pertinent impact. Recently, two of these focuses, the water, food and territory and the focus of energy, joined efforts to create a program entitled Habitat and Sustainability. The program aims to implement an interdisciplinary mobile laboratory that allows a dialog of knowledge between the communities’ traditional knowledge and the systematic knowledge generated in academia. Jointly and collaboratively, the mobile laboratory seeks to build solutions to social problems such as a more sustainable habitat that can improve the livelihoods of different communities. In a general glance, a special emphasis is given on the design and implementation of the UPB strategies that could help to foster closer integration of social responsibility and sustainability initiatives that could be scaled to other universities.

When inquiring about the development process and impact of urban studies, and the inhabitants’ relation to a transformed space, it is important to establish the context within which images, drawings, and photographs are analyzed, using graphical approaches triangulated with other research methods to define comparative criteria. In this article, we reflect on the expanded use of various research tools for the analysis of urban transformation, taking with reference the experience lived by a group of researchers in two Latin American cities.

Park's " The City " yet none of the major sociological journals published any papers devoted to commenting and/or expanding upon the arguments put forth by the Chicago sociologist in what is arguably one of the most important and fecund, classical articles in the field of urban sociology. Since most commentators have failed to take proper notice of Park's implicit and underdeveloped urban economic sociology, we begin this paper by focusing on his understanding of the role of economic processes in giving shape to the city. In the second section we articulate Park's arguments with E. Gordon Ericksen's symbolic interactionist human ecology in order to show how the economic processes of production, circulation and consumption give rise to quite different spatial and sociocultural urban configurations. Then, in the third section of the paper, we use Thorstein E. Veblen's institutional economics in order to describe the process of conspicuous consumption and to show how it can be productively connected with Park's arguments regarding the role of the economy in shaping the city. In the fourth section we use the arguments developed in the previous sections to show how conspicuous consumers distinctively give shape to the Fashion Design District of " Vía Primavera " in Medellin, Colombia. Robert E. Park and the role of economic processes in giving shape to the city Writing in 1915/1925, Park maintains that the economic organization of the city, grounded on individual and institutional competition, and the division of labor that results from it, is " one of its most striking and least understood features. " If the city as well as the individuals.

Cultures of Sustainability and Wellbeing: Theories, Histories and Policies examines and assesses ... more Cultures of Sustainability and Wellbeing: Theories, Histories and Policies examines and assesses the interdependence between sustainability and wellbeing by drawing attention to humans as producers and consumers in a post-human age. Why wellbeing ought to be regarded as essential to sustainable development is explored first from multifocal theoretical perspectives encompassing sociology, literary criticism and socioeconomics, second in relation to institutions and policies, and third with a focus on specific case studies across the world. Wellbeing and its sustainability are defined in terms of biological and cultural diversity; stages of advancement in science and technology; notions of citizenship and agency; geopolitical scenarios and environmental conditions.
Wellbeing and sustainability call for enquiries into human capacities in ontological, epistemological and practical terms. A view of sustainability that revolves around material and immaterial wellbeing is based on the assumption that life quality, comfort, happiness, security, safety always posit humans as both recipients and agents. Risk and resilience in contemporary societies define the intrinsically human ability to make and consume, to act and adapt, driving the search for and fruition of wellbeing. How to sustain the dual process of exploitation and regeneration is a task that requires integrated approaches from the sciences and the humanities, jointly tracing a worldwide cartography with clear localisations.
This book will be of great interest to students and researchers interested in sustainability through conceptual and empirical approaches including social theory, literary and cultural studies, environmental economics and human ecology, urbanism and cultural geography.
